Im thinking for next season, or down the stretch, that i will add the over and under (which will explain the red and green colouring). Also may add a row which shows how many pts the over teams need to lose in order for vancouver to be even.

I think it is fair to say that at this point Pittsburgh, Montreal, Washington, Boston, Ottawa and Toronto are IN THE PLAYOFFS

Out west I think it is also fair to say Chicago, Anaheim, Vancouver, Los Angeles, San Jose and Minnesota are all IN THE PLAYOFFS

This leaves the Isles, Rangers, Jersey, Winnipeg and Philly left in the hunt for the last two spots in the east and

Detroit, St Louis, Edmonton, Columbus, and Nashville searching for two spots out west.

Just my opinion of course, but IMO Toronto will make its first post season in a long time. baring a nasty losing skid.

First off, Washington it is not fair to say that Washington is in the playoffs. The Lightning and Hurricanes have a game in hand on the Capitals and those teams are just four points back. Washington is in the same fight with the eastern teams you mention plus the SE division top spot.

Secondly for the two spots in the west, you have to add Phoenix to the list. The Coyotes are tied with the Predators and have a game in hand on Nashville.

I agree that the Leafs have a decent chance of making the playoffs unless.....

Yeah, I have to agree on washington but 8-1-1 in their last ten...kind of picking up momentum at the right time.

So now its a question of who we playing in the first round? yeah?

We won't catch the 2nd or 1st place teams, but we won't fall to 7th either, speaking on probabilities. Minny is our most likely opponent, in fact it could be our home ice or theirs, right?

In any event we won't face Phoenix, Dallas, Edmonton Chicago or Anaheim, and CBJ, NSH CAL and Colorado are out of it...so who is left to worry about?

Detroit has nine games left to make up 3 points on Minny who has a game in hand...not likely
The Blues could very well overtake Minny with 11 games remaining and currently tied with Nashville 0-0
San Jose could also drop to 6th.

So there it is, Vancouver will most likely have home ice against Minny, San Jose or the Blues...I am not afraid of any of these teams, but Minnesota does offer some huge upside to the intrigue after they bulked up in the offseason.

Looking forward to it, and while I am not too worried about any of these teams mentioned, I do hope a few of them get lucky and knock out Chicago, Anaheim or LA before we have to.

What a difference 5 days makes. The Capitals just keep on winning and have left Tampa and Carolina in the dust. Carolina has lost 6 in a row. You're right that the Caps are hot but they are only 2 points up on the 9th place Jets and 4 up on the 10th place Devils. It is still too close to call. In the west, Nashville has fallen out as they have lost 4 in a row but the Stars are in the race now being 2 back of 8th place.

I agree that the Canucks won't finish 1st or 2nd but, right now 4 points separates the 3rd place Canucks and the 7th place Wild. That means there is still a decent chance the Canucks could finish in 7th place and likely play the Ducks or possibly Chicago. This is the fun part trying to see where teams will finish with so few games left. The magic number for Chicago to finish ahead of the Canucks is 2.5 and 5 for the Ducks.

The Kings could also finish 6th and play the Canucks in round 1 should the Canucks win the NW division. These two teams could also finish 4th and 5th and still play each other. Still a lot of teams the Canucks could play in round 1.

True, they can still do it. First place for the conference and the league is out of the question now since Chicago won on Sunday.

Can't the Hawks clinch the conference tonight? I know most charts says the magic number is two, but if Anaheim only drops a point (SO or OT) they can only tie Hawks in pts at the end of the season (70), but Hawks would be guaranteed the higher ROW (max ANA would only be able to get is 26 and Hawks already have 27.

With a regulation/OT win against Dallas tomorrow, the Canucks can lock up a playoff spot as Columbus would not be able to catch up to us in ROW!

Yes, but including Columbus, there would already be 7 teams in the West that cannot catch up to the Canucks and therefore we clinch a playoff spot.
