And with their defensive prospects coming up honestly them and the kings are projecting to be powerhouses. Especially if byfield hits

This really could be the year we finally get the crown jewel of our decade long rebuild / retool that we need. Top 3 maybe even 4 with Leo look like franchise changers.

If we can get top 4 pick, I would pop champage like those teams that win the world series/stanley cup LOL (just a saying)

At this moment, the Canucks are in last place in the NHL.

While this is not anything we wanted or expected, it may provide a golden opportunity for those of us who believe this record is a temporary aberration and that the Canucks are going to make the playoffs this year.

Because the Canucks are in last place, our first round draft pick's value is as about as high as it's going to be.  So perhaps we should think about trading it.

    Hear me out.

What would be needed is to identify a gm of a bubble team who thinks his team is going to make the playoffs but isn't.  In fact, it's probably going to do quite poorly.  This gm also has to believe that the Canucks are as bad as their current record indicates.  The Canucks then offer to trade one or two of our players plus our first round draft pick to this team in exchange for one or two of their players and their first round draft pick.  Because our draft pick, currently, has higher value than this other team's pick, we would expect to get better players in return.

Then, if all goes according to plan, the Canucks regain their mojo and start playing decent hockey and make the playoffs.  Meanwhile, this other team staggers and falls down the NHL standings.

In this way, the Canucks would have the best of both worlds.  We would have a team in the playoffs plus a shot at getting Connor Bedard or one of the other highly rated players available in the upcoming Draft.

    Win-win.

    What do you think?

OP, I think you need some antipsychotics (disclaimer: just a "saying" nothing serious) cuz this is insane.

I distinctly remember Benning mentioning after the trade that the Sedins played an important role in convincing him to include the second round pick that Arizona asked for in order to complete the trade. Just absolutely horrendous.

Makes me also wonder if there was a conflict of interest in terms of opinion. Perhaps the Sedins were friends with OEL and yenno pumped his tires

Bedard would look great on a line with Trevor Zegras with the Ducks.

That way he can torment the Canucks in the same division for years and years to come.

Drysdale on d and the Ducks have the makings of a nice core.

Call me crazy but I rather see Bedard with any other team other than the ducks . Ducks with Zegras, Mactavish and Bedard is scary.

Well, first of all, "draft year" is not the pertinent category for this player. As a late birthday, it is better to compare him against U19s, which puts him 5th all-time, behind Tomas Sandstrom, Markus Naslund, Daniel Sedin and William Nylander. Secondly, where is he getting 0.85 from? Shouldn't it be 0.78?

That said, I completely agree, all four would be favorites for 1st overall in most drafts. I said about the 2020 draft that I thought any of the top 4 could be in consideration for 1st overall in some (weaker) drafts. But I would put Carlsson and Fantilli up against the likes of MacKinnon, Dahlin, Eichel, Hughes, etc. not to even mention Bedard and Michkov.

Would u put Bedard and Michkov on the level of Mcdavid, Crosby, Matthews and Ovi?

I'm not sure how you think a guy who got 99 points last year is suddenly untradeable. I can just say that I'm glad you're not in charge of negotiating trades.

Miller would have gotten more than 8M per season on the open market next season.

I don't think we're quite to the stage of trading core people yet, but I also don't think we're that far from moving someone major. This team needs a major shakeup, moving someone in bottom 6, I don't think will have the impact we're looking for. We need to balance defense to really improve and that is going to require giving up someone substantial from forward.

My personal guess would be that Garland get's moved as well as a prospect or pick to bring in a top 4 young RD.

Miller can't play defense and is lazy af. Potentially toxic as well (but who knows)
