I think the nux will be going for it this year.  This is now the 3rd year for this mgmt group who promised Aqua another re tool on the fly. I think it's pretty likely that they trade our 1st this year. In the event that we do keep our first the Canucks IMO need to add size with the IQ and hands to play with skilled players.

    FWDS

Simon Zether RHC 6'3 Former team mate of Willander. He's got NHL 2/3C written all over him. He will get SHL time this year as he's got good details to his game and 2 way ability. He's also just way too good for the J20 put up a hatty in his first game this season and currently has 4g 5a in 5 games. He's got an October b day which will make him one of the older kids in this draft class but also means as an incredibly young kid in the J20 Nat last season he went PPG and put up 6g in 6 playoff games. What I like most is he pretty much just has his way down low at this level.

Emil Hemming 6'2 RW was a standout at Hilinka his shot is wicked and can score from everywhere. Looks like a very worth while project.

Michael Hage 6'1 RHC He's got the total package we need in a 2 way C. He missed most of last season due to injury I think his ranking will rise into the top 15 but he's certainly one to watch. Works his butt off at both ends and has enough skill to punish teams stars when they get too cute with the puck.

Sacha Boisvert 6'2 LHC Skates quite well has NHL size and is slick with the puck on his stick. Ill be paying attention to him.

Matvei Babenko 6'3 RW Not sure where to rank him yet. He had a pretty good year last year in the MHL and has been promoted to the KHL he might be worth keeping tabs on.

    The D's

Cole Hutson listed  5'8 -5'10 143-160lb LHD IMO he's a top 10 pick with top 5 skill. He's gonna drop due to his small stature  how far I don't know but it better not be past us.  This kid is fire and doesn't shy away when the going gets rough. He's a "difference maker".

Adam Jiricek 6'1  RHD no way he makes it to us but a lot of rankings have him in the bottom half of the class right now so maybe there's a chance?

on to the more realistic targets.

Charlie Elick 6'3 RHD He's ticking all the boxes I am looking for in a shut down D that can hang with skilled players and log huge minutes.

John Whipple 6'1  LHD  Puck hound. He battles all over the ice if you're going to get by him you're going to have to earn it. He's got a decent shot from the point too.

My preliminary "late round" watch list.

Daniil Ustinkov 6'0 LHD playing in the Swiss NL and even laced up in 3 playoff contests last year for the Lions this kid is a late August birthday the Lions coaching staff must reallllly like this kid. Plus wicked name.

Adam Jecho  6'5 RW skates pretty well and claps bombs this kid is an absolute beast. We will see if the move to the WHL hurts or helps his draft stock sometimes these kids struggle adjusting to NA. If his stock drops we should snap him up.

Colton Roberts 6'4 RHD those of you are Giants fans will be familiar he's got some nasty and is excellent in transition. He is tidy with the puck in his own end.

Arseni Marchenko 6'6 monster LHD. It will be interesting to watch how the former captain of the Belarussian u17 squad adjusts to the USHL. I can't say I've ever seen him play but his stats lead me to believe he is going to be worth checking up on.

Emil Hemming off to a scorching start to the year, kid can fill the net and already has the body of a man at 17.25 years old.

Ugh another pick wasted to clear a bad contract. Unfortunate as he probably has value at the trade deadline with his reputation and being in the last year of his deal.

Its a 3rd round and we get a backup goalie we desperately needed. Saves us from losing a asset by having to run a 22 man roster to be cap compliant. While I hate giving up picks this seems like a good trade for both sides.

Trading Beau doesn’t really change the makeup of the team much, but Myers as a 3rd pairing RHD is valuable. Under the coaching staff, he could really flourish as a physical presence.

Beau is still a really good third line winger and in his prime. Unless we can use his cap saving to better the team before the start of the season, I dont see the point. If they have another potential deal that requires cap space on the table then by all means ship him out as fast as you can.

The defense is a piece away from being considered legitimate. Alvin will have more options once next season ends when Myers and Cole are no longer on the payroll. Solidifying the top four makes easing in rookies far easier.

    St. Louis receives:

    Conor Garland

    Nils Hoglander

    Jack Rathbone

    Vancouver receives

    Colton Parayko

Vancouver does this because the players are serviceable yet are redundant here.

St Louis does it because. Just because.

Too much risk of being stuck with another anchor contract, would rather pay more for a younger asset.

Agreed….I t’s possible his PK ability helps win him a spot though. Åman doesn’t need to clear waivers, which may (unfortunately) factor in. I have zero confidence in Studnicka earning a spot.

Yeah pretty unimpressed with Studnicka last year he could definitely be on the outside looking in. There is also a couple longshot guys like Karlsson and Mcdonough that will be aiming for a spot. Currently only two spots open with, Pearson, Studnicka, PDG, and Aman all gunning for them. If we are in cap trouble that two spots become one, they may opt to go with the younger players that still have some runway.

Awesome. He was the last UFA I was hoping we’d sign, and the contract is ideal.

Not wasting a calorie worrying about cap compliance, as I trust they have that sorted.

some interesting options on PK now:

    Suter Mikheyev

    Cole Hronek

    Blueger PDG

    Soucy Myers/Bear

    Demko

Im not sure PDG makes the team, if we run 13 forwards he has to beat out one of Joshua, Hoglander. or Aman for the spot if we run 14 forwards he still needs to beat out Studnicka and Pearson for the last spot if Pearson is healthy which I dont think he is.

Or maybe he was never as close to returning as his agent was saying.

“The indication I got from his agent and from our medical staff is that the hand is healed, and Tanner is working really hard to to be the in his best shape and participate in training camp” Canucks medical staff also evaluated his hand but they also dont have the best track record. Maybe as he got to more advanced drills he noticed discomfort. Would be best case scenario and allow us to sign Bear.

    Kuzmenko - Petey - Boeser

    Mikheyev - Miller - Garland

    Beau - Blueger - Podz

    Joshua - Suter - Aman

    Hoglander - Studnicka

    Hughes - Bear

    Soucy - Hronek

    Cole - Myers

    Wolanin

    Demko

    Martin

    Would be nice

Seems inevitable at some point this season that we sign Bear...either through injuries/LTIR, or trades (Myers, Garland, Beau). Even if we let Myers walk to free agency, adding a healthy Bear ~half way in to the season...

Hughes, Bear (yes over his head but plays well with Hughes and let's us spread Cole/Soucy)

    Cole, Hronek

    Soucy, Myers

    Irwin, Wolanin

That D could hang in the playoffs. None of those pairs need sheltering.

6 legit NHL dmen would be nice. I'm not excited at the fact we may lose Woo, showed some real good progress last year and was probably the most physical Dman in Abby last year (just shy of 100 PM's).

This was on a team with Tanev and Stecher fwiw.

The funny thing is, I don’t think Myers has really shown any “age related” decline.  He just isn’t a shutdown guy without a really solid LD with him.

While Myers has never lived up to his contract, especially offensively, he does chip in on the scoresheet and has 2/4 seasons playing passable defensive hockey in hard minutes.

He really is the chaos giraffe.

I thought he looked like a legit top 4 Dman in our bubble run even though he put up zero points and took lots of penalties, he brought some much needed physically that helped us overcome Minnesota and St Louis. He definitely brought the chaos.

  10. I hope we dont trade Myers for a forward, would be dumb. We only have 5 proven and capable NHL dmen, if we trade Myers we are down to 4. When injuries hit our paper thin D depth will get exposed. We have a lot of plug ins like Juulsen, Breezy, Woo, Johansson, Hirose, Wolanin, Rathbone but none of them have proven they can be a consistant NHL Dman nevermind lock down a top 4 spot. One or two of them may get there in time but need at least one more year to find out. Wolanin is probably the closest to being an regular NHL D man.

Arguably the most valuable parts of Twitter were the brand name and the logo. I'd say Twitter is one of the world's 100 most recognizable brands. He's gone and flushed all that value. If he has a plan I simply cannot fathom what it might be.

I would say the mountains of personal information and huge customer base are worth way more than their branding. As one of the biggest social media companies would be very easy to build brand awareness for a new name and logo.

I thought his coach said Edler was the best defender when Doughty was out, or maybe that was the previous year? I wouldn't have minded him back on a cheap one year contract but we signed Irwin instead.

I think that was the previous year, his ice time dropped to just over 12 mins in the playoffs last year and his corsi numbers were not pretty (only 4 game same size though). Regular season minutes dropped to just over 14 mins. He is 37 years old his body probably has felt better.
