  1. I think at some point Quinn has to become the guy that can play with a developing partner. Perhaps Juulsen Hirose, Woo or even Wolanin. Whoever it is will need time to develop chemistry with him and changing the other tire every year is not letting them get in the groove together. Either way we get to see him for another bunch of years and thats a good thing.

  2. Its great to hear the Kuz is in great shape and I think he will have a great year again this season but it begs the question; what was happening the years previous?

With all the talk of players coming into camp in great shape and Coach T saying they need better fitness levels what the heck was going on before? The Sedins were always touted as fitness freaks being the hardest working players on the team. Where was that work ethic the last few seasons? I would expect that professional athletes would be in top condition always but it seems there was a let down there. Hopefully this piece of the puzzle makes a big difference especially in the start we get from the group.

  3. Like many teams from the past Canucks history this team has under performed the last few seasons.

Demkos injury and bad goaltending took us out of contention for the playoffs early last season.

No D and that disastrous penalty kill cost us a lot of points in the standings.

How many times did we jump out to big leads, 3 goals, and give that up?Can we get solid goaltending this season? Its possible

Can we have a better PK? Its possible

Can the D just be a little more consistent? Its very possible.

Like many teams from the past 52 seasons there is reason to be optimistic.

A Healthy Demko, hopefully bubble Demko, would go a long ways to having success.

If the new D additions can work into the system early so we have success out of the gate and not be 1-9 or 2 and 8 after the first 10 would help.

Hopefully Petey continues to get better.

If history continues to repeat itself what we will see is this team squeak into the playoffs, maybe even win a round or two depending on Demko, and everyone will anoint them the next years champs. Then we will crash and burn again. Soucy Cole irwin Hronek all have an upside and didnt play on this team last season. add in Hirose who looks pretty good they may surprise on D

IMHO the season and its success rides on Demko. If he can play like we all know he can they make the playoffs. If he doesnt play well they struggle again.

No ones ever completely healthy.  Boston was without Savard and Horton.

I still think we wouldve won if we had Hamhuis playing.  When we lost him, our team just sank defenselively.   Edler, Salo and Erhoff were already playing with serious injuries.

Ill never forgot hamhuis hip check on lucic that took him out.

yes was a totally unnecessary injury at the time as well is memory serves me correct. I think it happened late in Game 1. Losing Aaron Rome who was the only healthy D man to the suspension was critical as well.We had depth but lost it all with Hammer going down and Rome being suspended.

He was. I remember them talking about how much he could bench. However, I dont think he had the leg power that Bure had.

Beat me to it Babych was an extremely strong player. I remember them doing a piece between periods in a game where they discussed his benchpress. The 2023 team could use a Babych in his prime. He could skate, score, defend and hit like few others

Our buyout window is closed.  If he isn't back to form then we can just waive him and send him to Abby to free up a roster spot.

the roster spot would be freed up but i believe he would still count against the cap no?

Move Garland in separate deal. Send futures for Pesce. Voila, cap space.

No, we may not be an option on his acceptable teams list. Correct.

Love to see someone take on Garland but im pretty sure if that was available we would have done it already. not to crap on the idea of getting Pesce, i just dont see it happening. we are better to play out this season and let Myers walk to create the cap space we need. look at next seasons FA crop.

I dont see Hogs or Pods removing PDG from this lineup. Di Giuseppe is Tocchets favorite and someone will have to play out of their mind to supplant him

    Loving those names!

Suter is pretty darn good, underrated player. I'd be stoked with that bottom 6.

Yeah extended, probably a first, prospect etc.

I might risk not extending him pre-trade for the lower acquisition costs personally. Playing with Hughes for a season, under Gonchar and Foote, for a management team that WANTS to extend you, should be a pretty good sales pitch. We'd also need to move Garland in a seperate deal to clear cap.

I HOPE he comes to the Canucks as he's a perfect fit for what we need.

He's widely rumored to be available and apparently has submitted his 15 team list. They're moving him.

It doesnt mean we are on his 15 team list or whichever way that is worded.  There are most likely better returns for the canes elsewhere. Instead of taking on Boeser, Garland or Myers. we dont have the cap space

Pesce is a massive trade piece right now because Carolina doesn't have the cap to make his extension work, and they have been on record saying that they don't want people to walk to FA (Pesce is a 2024 UFA), and would rather get pieces for him, not at the TDL as a rental.

Ok but im not  sure that makes him a Canuck Prospect. We would have to trade to get him and what would the Canes want in return? Certainly not our bargain bin of forwards or Myers at the cap hit. They can get a better return elsewhere.

  11. Myers is a good defenseman, hes just not a 6 million dollar good defenseman. Playing third paring minutes he will most likely be alright. I wouldnt advocate re signing him but given his contract is up next season and that he needs a good year to get an offer, he will probably play ok this season./ Manage his minutes as others have said. I dont mind the idea of Myers and Soucy on the PK together . We can call them the twin towers

Next year have to think that one of Hirose/D-Petey/Jurmo is hopefully good enough for a more permanent 3LD role...maybe Johansen or Woo for 3RD next year and eventually flip Soucy to 3LD in 3 years after a Hirose/D-Petey/Jurmo passes him.

    23-24:

    Hughes, Pesce

    Cole, Hronek

    Soucy, Myers/Bear

    24-25:

    Hughes, Pesce

    Soucy, Hronek

    Hirose/D-Petey/Jurmo, Woo/Johansen

    25-26:

    Hughes, Pesce

    Hirose/D-Petey/Jurmo, Hronek

    Soucy, Willander

what makes you think Pesce is coming to the Canucks?why would he want to leave a Carolina team that is challenging for the cup to come to this rag tag group?

Our youngsters as Podz and Hogz(if not traded) will be introduced in the roster when injuries or trades happen.

This is where i think they will be. Anyone who has Hoglander in the lineup over Di Giuseppe hasnt been paying attention. One p[layer is loved by the new head coach one is not. Hoglander has to play lights out either in Camp or in the first month to make the big club. He only gets a shot if there are injuries. Podkolzin probably gets the call up first

Who were you hoping to get that would have a more immediate impact?

Obviously if we got Reinbacher , but I am happy with the pick its just a couple years before it has any impact

  15. while i am pleased to get the RHD we need Im having a hard time getting excited about the pick. Not sure this helps us for another couple years. Perhaps we can still sign a player to fill the void on the back end this FA class. Mayfield or Graves would be a nice addition to the D lineup.Willander wanting to play for the Canucks is a nice touch.

You do realize the only D Tampa drafted on their two recent Cup winners was Hedman, right? The rest were either traded for or signed as UFAs. Getting Hronek (25, elite, right shot) was a fantastic move by Allvin. And giving up Hronek was 100% a mistake by Yzerman. One he actually admitted to in his post season presser when he said his team’s last quarter of the year struggles (caused by trading away his most import D) was on him.

I do realize that but you have to have the stud D man who can play D. we havent been able to Sign in FA or trade for a player that can make the other teams uncomfortable in our end. Thus the crappy PK and the poor goals against. Hronek will help. Hughes is improving defensively. If they can sign Bear for a reasonable cap hit they have three. But they are still lacking at least one more really good defensive D man. Hirose looks like another good prospect but not the right kind of D man. we are missing the Gudas type of D man. They are hard to find for sure, but we need to get a bit more bite at the back end.

Juolevi is BPA with Tkachuk on the board?? even if Tkachuk doesn't want to play in vancouver.. you either draft him and trade his rights to a team that wants him or trade down to a team that wants him for a kings ransom.. the drop off from tkachuk to Juolevi is so big it's not even close at the time of the draft.

Hindsight is always easy to throw rocks. Tkachuck didnt want to play in Vancouver and His father as much as said so

  18. Nothing changes for this team until they fix the tire fire on the back end. They have enough "skill" players on the back end. We do not need to draft another PP quarterback. Hughes Hronek OEL even young Hirose seems to fit this role well enough. What we need are decent Defensive hard hitting nasty D men that can play more than 10 mins a game and not hurt us. We have no grit on the back end. NONE. Burroughs is a part time player and he is the only player that steps up. Miller can but shouldnt up front. Joshua, Aman ?? Not on the ice enough. Teams that are making noise in the playoffs have grit at the back end. Players that dance on the line. Make it uncomfortable for other teams i their end. Make it dangerous to admire your passes. Make is difficult to enter the zone. We can add a 3rd line center and there's an argument to do that but unless there is a D man that fits our needs at 11 I would trade back.Collect something maybe another 2nd rounder or player and the other teams later pick. We need to be smart and find some grit that can play minutes on the back end. preferrably two of them. Florida has Gudas and Ekblad, Thats the recipe for success. we have the G, we have enough wingers up front. Petey and Miller are 1 and 2 C. we need the most glaring error on this team fixed and Leaders on D usually dont come through a trade very often as every team needs them, Hronek may turn out to be a good pickup but hes not a Defensive stud. Team toughness is needed but its mostly needed on the back end.
