I still think it will be Pettersson, but Hughes would also be a great choice. The deciding factor will be, who is best in the room, which is something that none of us see.

Petey only cares about Petey. If he were our next Captain, He'd already be signed and would've told Friedman he's putting this team on his back. His non committal, wait and see, telling the team to prove it to him attitude would be death for a captain. Hard NO on Petey and a healthy dose of disappointment IMO

I'm good with Quinn. He's passionate AF, will have Miller riding shotgun, and will only grow as a leader.

    Let's go!

Bo played like a softy for sure, but he’s 215 pounds, and could handle himself physically. He just didn’t go out of his way to use his physicality to benefit the team in any consistent way.

Hughes is 5’10, 180 pounds, a smidge shorter and lighter than Stevie Y, with no heavy weights on the team to protect him if someone wants to run him. It’ll just be something the team will learn to deal with - luckily Hughes can avoid a lot of contact. But he’ll be a bigger target with the captaincy, especially come playoffs.

Oh man you're getting me excited for playoffs!

Anybody touches Captain Quinn they're going to have to answer the bell...

    (hopefully)

I'd be really happy with Hughes as captain.  I remember seeing an interview where Brock, Hughes, and Petey were all on the panel and the media was asking targeted questions to Brock that got him super emotional over his dad.  Hughes stepped in and basically asked them to move on.  From that moment, my hope would be that he'd be named captain.

I’m good with Hughes. The guy’s fiery on the ice, wouldn’t hesitate to tell his team when they’re embarrassing themselves, and is great addressing media.

I was also good with JT cause I like the emotion but that’s not going anyway.

Will be a good day for Canuck fans if/when they announce Quinn where’s the C

The media in this city will not stop on this issue until Pettersson actually wants to leave.

D&D are back only hours from their summer break and they're back on the drumbeat of making this more of an issue than it is.

I don’t think Pettersson realizes what he’s in for this season as far as the scrutiny over his contract situation. When D&D had his agent on it sounded like both agent and team are just following the player’s wishes in this.

I don’t think the kid realizes what he’s doing to himself with this.

Those two sentences may not correlate.  He can get paid anywhere he goes but the team we trade him too might not even be a playoff team.  How many Stanley Cup contenders can squeeze $12 million onto their payroll without disrupting their team?  Any team Petey gets traded to the Canucks have to take salary back.  Even with Eichel Vegas had to trade Tuch.

In my opinion, Petey is being coached by his agents, who are the top agents in the NHL.  They will squeeze out every penny from the Canucks that they can.  MacKinnon, Tavares, Kopitar, Jones, Larkin, PLD.  Even Crosby from 10 years ago, they all got top dollar.  And Petey will too.  He won't even take a penny discount to play here, this is guaranteed...

    That's his right... obviously

But I'm surprised not to have heard more people discuss how this is a clear sign that Petey shouldn't even be considered as captain anymore. If he were the next captain then signing longterm and telling us he's putting the Canucks on his back and going to do everything in his power to make the team a winner is the move.

This whole... "I'm holding out to see if this team is worth committing too" is his right but shows he's nowhere near the leader this team needs.

Would it really be a shocker to anyone if Pete held Alvin over a Barrel for max cap or demanded a trade to a tax haven?

How much faith do you think he has that we are actually going to build a contender here?

Would you take a discount if you were him based on what you've seen from this franchise so far?

    Sekeres, is that you?

Myers with 1yr left > Dumba on a multi year contract. Besides, with Hronek, Hughes, Hirose, and Rathbone, we need the size this year.

And don’t be surprised if Myers looks great in 3rd pair situation in sheltered minutes this year.

Especially in a contract year. JP Barry mentioned recently that Myers is well aware how important a good year is for him personally.

It's annoying how well players perform in contract years relative to other seasons... But it would make Myers a better trade chip at the deadline so I'm all for it

Yeah I have no idea how we expect that a 156lbs centre will ever make any kind of impact at the NHL level.

Doesn't seem like they're thinking future NHL players with these later picks.

Likely hoping for players that could develop into decent AHL'ers

It was warm up which is never broadcast.

Yes, and yet it still managed to become an absolute sideshow when one or two players opted out

This decision by the NHL is all business and makes a lot of sense when you consider that they're not banning the theme nights, just taking the personal opinions of the players out of it.

All this talk about "backing down" and "cowardice" proves that this was not in fact just a statement that "everyone is welcome in hockey." There's more going on here and the NHL wants to create a little less drama and negative press on their players. It's a good call.

We have a good owner for money stuff. He just needs to keep his snout out of hockey ops. And after the whole Boudreau issues this past year I think he might have leaned his lesson. We might see him actually listing to management, instead of directing them. We might see an OEL buyout! How awesome would that be?

I like the positivity and I used to agree about the Aqulinis being good with "the money stuff" but then how do we explain being the last team without a practice facility, which likely, comes down to the family refusing to make that investment in the team or wanting more from the city to do it. Rogers is also quickly becoming one of the most outdated rinks across the league and I would love to see a large infusion of cash there too.

    Not really true:

    Since 2011:

    343076663_751857253150390_54478078650284

Remember....this fanbase doesn't consider "getting in" or losing in the first couple of rounds contending.

Be careful what you wish for...new owners could mean new city.

    Also, for this part:

A full reno of the arena and a new practice facility will turn things around?

Also....owners hire people to do the job of building a contender through drafting and development. And I feel that our impatience as fans (some of whom jump ship) is showing. They ARE making changes to management and coaching staff...let's see how that plays out.

"Since 2011" there have been different personnel in place and you can't pin past failures on this group (entirely).

You’re crazy if you think winning the Stanley Cup in 2011 and then being back to the cup FINALS twice since then and this year being the most dominant team in the NHL through the regular season by a wide margin doesn’t qualify them as consistent contenders.

If that were the Canucks record we absolutely would consider ourselves contenders every year whether we got kicked out early or not

You know ... I grew up in a city without an NHL team. It really sucked. When I moved to Vancouver, that same year I got swept up in the 94 run to the Cup and was like, wow, THIS is what it's like to live in an NHL city. It was magical.

Not long after that, I also remember what it was like to experience the down years and the very REAL reality that ownership wanted to sell the team and the very REAL possibility that the team could be moved. It was a horrible thought at the time and still is to me now.

Thankfully the team didn't move after a change in ownership and fans are fortunate to still have an NHL team here. It would have been really tough watching a city ... say Memphis ... going on that 2011 run rather than Vancouver. That would have been equally as tough as watching the Bruins win like they did.

Sorry, but I'll take this ownership and their approach, also their commitment to the team, than having to face the team leaving town and watching the "moved" team hoist the Cup. Imagine how Nordiques fans felt watching the Avalanche the year after they moved.

Be careful what you wish for.

We do finally have a bright, effective management and coaching staff with a pedigree of winning.

Is there anything we can do to stop these posts?

Thanks for quoting that....hadn't read that post/the thread.

Funny someone else got the "be careful what you wish for"...yep. It isn't a given that everything will just be awesome...it's a very real risk. Stuff's expensive here and new owners may not find any attachment to Vancouver.

    +10 is right!

Why do so many blame Owners or Management all the time?

It's not really even the players - it's the agents who have inflated player's salaries.

Based on performance, our team is NOT worth the money the owners have paid them.

Of course the owners want their teams to make the playoffs every year - that's gravy for them.

This post was about as thought out as Ownerships direction with the team...

If you don't like what's happening and cannot afford to buy the team, may I suggest Arizona, I hear they are always looking for fans. They'll never get your hopes up either, you'll always know they plan to be a bottom feeder

I’m surprised by the support ownership still has on this board.

I agree with those who’ve said winning will change everything. That’s what I’m hoping for.

There is a possible solution but that would take a concerted effort by Canucks nation and the people of BC to demonstrate, hang banners, shame him and protest loudly - en masse - to rid this team of Aqua-lini. To get this to happen we'd need even more terrible years of failure - enough to provoke and pi$$-off even the most patient & reasonable fans to Rise-up and yell "Enough is Enough" and disgrace Aqua-lini publicly by the thousands - as an incompetent idiot that has meddled and mismanaged this team into the sewer.

We all know he is the root of all Canucks problems so until he goes - nothing will ever change.

I wish we had a fan base unified on this and actually tried to apply some pressure where we could without withdrawing support from the team. Based on this discussion it seems like plenty of people, even on these boards, still support ownership and/or have no desire for change in that area. That surprises me but I get that it’s a situation beyond the scope of what we can do anything about realistically

Money talks. If you really want to show them that you aren't okay with their ownership. Stop buying merch. Stop going to games. Stop watching games.

Can be very hard if you're dedicated to the team though.

Outside of that, your best bet is some sort of pitchforks social media scandal (such as the rumours of abuse).

I know money talks but it's too bad the whole franchise would have to suffer for us to send a message
