  1. Would love to know why this is happening. disappointing to say the least always enjoyed having the game on and scanning the forums in stoppages and commercial breaks

    Captaincy

Petey only cares about Petey. If he were our next Captain, He'd already be signed and would've told Friedman he's putting this team on his back. His non committal, wait and see, telling the team to prove it to him attitude would be death for a captain. Hard NO on Petey and a healthy dose of disappointment IMO I'm good with Quinn. He's passionate AF, will have Miller riding shotgun, and will only grow as a leader. Let's go!

Oh man you're getting me excited for playoffs! Anybody touches Captain Quinn they're going to have to answer the bell... (hopefully)

I’m good with Hughes. The guy’s fiery on the ice, wouldn’t hesitate to tell his team when they’re embarrassing themselves, and is great addressing media. I was also good with JT cause I like the emotion but that’s not going anyway. Will be a good day for Canuck fans if/when they announce Quinn where’s the C
  5. I don’t think Pettersson realizes what he’s in for this season as far as the scrutiny over his contract situation. When D&D had his agent on it sounded like both agent and team are just following the player’s wishes in this. I don’t think the kid realizes what he’s doing to himself with this.
  6. That's his right... obviously But I'm surprised not to have heard more people discuss how this is a clear sign that Petey shouldn't even be considered as captain anymore. If he were the next captain then signing longterm and telling us he's putting the Canucks on his back and going to do everything in his power to make the team a winner is the move. This whole... "I'm holding out to see if this team is worth committing too" is his right but shows he's nowhere near the leader this team needs.
  7. Agreed. The way I see it, Bo, a #2C turning into: a #2RHD, middle six winger, and a prospect is a win in my mind. Soucy and Cole are upgrades in addition to that. Not saying we have everything we need but we're clearly getting better
  8. I’d be good with Miller as Captain too
  9. Especially in a contract year. JP Barry mentioned recently that Myers is well aware how important a good year is for him personally. It's annoying how well players perform in contract years relative to other seasons... But it would make Myers a better trade chip at the deadline so I'm all for it
  10. With most teams capped out maybe there's a recognition that the dollars won't be there but term is still an area teams can compete.
  11. Doesn't seem like they're thinking future NHL players with these later picks. Likely hoping for players that could develop into decent AHL'ers
  12. I’m hesitant to respond at all because that particular post was just so stupid. But OK… this had nothing to do with “Grandpas being afraid of rainbows” … This is a business decision from the NHL, nothing more.
  13. Yes, and yet it still managed to become an absolute sideshow when one or two players opted out This decision by the NHL is all business and makes a lot of sense when you consider that they're not banning the theme nights, just taking the personal opinions of the players out of it. All this talk about "backing down" and "cowardice" proves that this was not in fact just a statement that "everyone is welcome in hockey." There's more going on here and the NHL wants to create a little less drama and negative press on their players. It's a good call.
  14. I like the positivity and I used to agree about the Aqulinis being good with "the money stuff" but then how do we explain being the last team without a practice facility, which likely, comes down to the family refusing to make that investment in the team or wanting more from the city to do it. Rogers is also quickly becoming one of the most outdated rinks across the league and I would love to see a large infusion of cash there too.
  15. You’re crazy if you think winning the Stanley Cup in 2011 and then being back to the cup FINALS twice since then and this year being the most dominant team in the NHL through the regular season by a wide margin doesn’t qualify them as consistent contenders. If that were the Canucks record we absolutely would consider ourselves contenders every year whether we got kicked out early or not
  16. I’m surprised by the support ownership still has on this board. I agree with those who’ve said winning will change everything. That’s what I’m hoping for.
  17. I wish we had a fan base unified on this and actually tried to apply some pressure where we could without withdrawing support from the team. Based on this discussion it seems like plenty of people, even on these boards, still support ownership and/or have no desire for change in that area. That surprises me but I get that it’s a situation beyond the scope of what we can do anything about realistically
  18. I know money talks but it's too bad the whole franchise would have to suffer for us to send a message
  19. In my opinion we are one of the most irrelevant teams in the NHL primarily because we've seemed to lack intelligence when it comes to strategically building back after 2011. It was painful watching Boston win in 2011 but the fact that they've been contending basically every year since then has been salt in the wound. We're among the bottom of the league when it comes to playoff appearances in the last 8 years (not counting the bubble illusion) and somehow we've managed to become one of the most cap tight and contract inefficient teams at the same time! I think our current management groups is the brightest we've had in a while and I'm rooting for them. But it's ownership and ownership alone that's responsible for the fact that our management teams have been consistently tasked with making the playoffs rather than being given the chance to build it back (case in point, Trevor Linden). It's also ownership that is responsible for us being the last team in the NHL (with the news this week on Calgary) to not have a practice facility. Our ownership has made news consistently over the years for shady business practices and this year domestic abuse allegations took this to a new level (I was hoping for the NHL to step in at that point...but apparently that's not embarrassing enough). I can't imagine the Aquilini's selling the Canucks (which I think it's more out of a love for real-estate than the team). But I also can't imagine something that would invigorate this market more than a new ownership group coming in with a comprehensive and intelligent plan for turning things around including investing in a FULL renovation of the arena, a practice facility, and a vision for building a contender through drafting and development. Some people I know are jumping ship on the Canucks right not but I'm all in as a fan of this team. I just feel like it's the ownership above all else that gives me a sense of hopelessness for the future... So is there anything we can do to force/pressure for a change in ownership (besides abandoning the team altogether)?
