Read it in high school and like 5 years later read it again. Been meaning to give it a reread.
I just finished it. It scared me like fifty pages in, seeing the similarities between our society and that “dystopian” one.
War is peace.
Freedom is slavery.
Big brother is watching.

For one Dubas proved that having a front loaded talent of a few very highly paid players is a great start for success.. look at Toronto playoff qualifiers they made the playoffs in almost all the seasons under Dubas a sentiment to his work.. rather than spread cap out its been proven that dedicating the cap to a small % of players is seen as the bigger advantage and Dubas is a master of analytics and drawing value from every player. To me that says something?
I think you are confused.
You seem to be under the impression that perpetual early round exits for 5+ years is a “great start”.
Looks like mediocrity or just straight up flat lining to me.
I get you are sad your team lost, but you cant honestly believe toronto management is doing a great, or even good job.

Did i just predict the winner?

Awww look at all the people thinking vancouver is going to move UP in a draft.
It would be kinda cute, if years of dissapointment and loss hadnt turned me into a jaded mess regarding anything nhl.
Chicago is drafting first i think. Corruption and deceit are rampant in all organized sports. Its all about the money..money...

leafs have to be better
Be careful what you wish for. I would rather choke down one month of hearing about how the panthers won the cup.....
...instead of sportsnet having one month of every year dedicated to “one of the greatest teams ever assembled who blah blah so much great blah blah even better than the oilers and islanders dynasties barf barf lets see that again in slow motion”.

People say a lot of stupid things on this site, but this is a real gem.

Our owner sure likes his hand puppets. And JR is spineless.
Not spineless alf.
No need to use your back when someone is paying you lots of money to do what they tell you to do with zero consequences.
What, are they gonna fire him? Oh no whatever will he doo?!?!
oh right hes 74 and still getting paid

I'm with you on horvat, believe me. They made a huge mistake picking miller.
That said, they've done what all teams do......use their high picks to draft their core players and they'll get another core piece this year.
This was a good deal, just done at the wrong time.
Its probably a good deal. I dunno time will tell.
I dont think anything will change if the team keeps trying out the rest of the leagues project players though.
We need to be the ones getting assets back for players, not constantly giving them up.

Come on guys... Romanov got the 13th overall. Hronek is soon much better than him. We needed a young RHD badly to play with Hughes. They are expensive to get. This pick could turn out to be a jordan Schroeder ffs.
Its really not about the player in all honesty.
Its more about the fact that the trade looks like another david booth, keith ballard, “what was that guys name” quick fix crap we see every year.
Do it right goddammit. Draft and develop, and in three years we have a team. Dont piss-ass around every year and trade for contracts or project players.
Fookin do it right the first time.

And that really isn't a thing. You use high picks to draft your core, which van has done.
Wrong. So wrong.
Vancouver has a few players that might be good, but together they suck ball saxophones. They traded their goddamned captain to “make it work”.
Demko is always injured. Hughes is overworked. Petersson is sheltered.
Is that the kinda core you want for a contender? Or are you saying boeser, ekman-etc and garland are part of the core.

Like I said in my post a few pages back.
I'm just as nervous as you guys are, but you'll feel less frustrated if you just accept the fact that rebuilding through the draft was never the plan.
From management's POV - they don't want to wait for 18 year old prospects to develop while Petey and Hughes push 30 at the end of their prime.
There is no such thing as rebuilding, unless it is through the draft.
Actually, in my very firm opinion, there are no perennial contenders who do not have consistently strong drafting to allow them to trade *insert injured player for free first rounder*.
People dont give away nice things for gummy bears and mickey mouse hats. Unless they are stupid.
Steve Yzerman is far from stupid. Allvin and the chitmonks got fleeced.

If you truly want a rebuild, then you probably need to trade Demko, and one of Hughes or Pettersson. Which one do you choose?
Obviously demko. Hes played one full season. Always “injured”, whether its physical or mental, he cant be relied on.

Sigh. It feels like the canucks are treading down the “beaten path”, and doing the same sheeit.
You cant build a castle on sand.

Cant really complain about losing a long shot and a lottery ticket, but im starting to question whether or not allvin understands what game hes involved in.
He does realize he cant build hotels even he collects enough wingers to fill a roster down to the goalie position, doesnt he?

My wife and I both bought new IPads last summer. With it, within 3 months we could sign up for Apple TV, free for 3 months each. Plus, Apple TV would be yours for $5.99 per month. I decided to do so, but in the meantime they took my credit card info etc. So just before the 3 months I get a notice from Apple that the subscription will now cost $8.99 per month. Anyone else have this happen to them? I call this bait and switch.
Nothing is “free”.
I bought a new laptop recently, and with it came “a week of free ms office and norton antivirus!!! YAY!”
meanwhile, to sign into my paid for computer, i need a Microsoft account. To update the antivirus i need to give them my credit details. When i log into google, youtube etc knows who i am.....

“We use our son’s account.”
Exactly. It isnt brain science, let alone rocket surgery.
If you think HGTV is going to treat you fairer for a cheaper price, for longer...

Cant really fault a business for trying to turn a profit, especially since the policy is aimed towards eliminating people from watching for free who arent paying for their own account.
That being said, the quality of the entertainment is decidedly poor on all streaming services in general. Netflix is slightly better than amazon and disney imo, but not by a whole lot.
People would probably feel better paying for a subscription if the movies/shows were better, but the market is just so saturated with entertainment meant to be consumed. Its not art anymore. No substance or story. Terrible acting and writing.
Rings of power from amazon is a “prime” example. Just terrible all around. Its just not feasible to spend 500 million on a streaming service show and expect to turn a profit. Thats a hell of a lot of subscribers.

Meh. Ive been called worse by far better people. May have even deserved it once or twice.
I found it more funny that the person calling me a monkey was the one slinging doo doo over a tongue in cheek comment about the all star game of all things.
so with that in mind i say, takes one to know one @Zerofaith!

Pretty optimistic if you think tocchet is gonna last past next years deadline if you ask me.

Meh. I expect this time next year we will be looking for a new president, “gm”, and “agm”.
I mean ffs, do any of them actually do anything?
Allvin is going to rival Keenan for worst canuck gm.

As someone who doesnt live in canada anymore, this forum was the only way to keep up with news not just canuck/hockey related, but canadian in general.
When they outright banned certain topics, it was pretty obvious this was coming.
Im finding myself giving less and less of an eff about hockey in general. Losing in 2011 and that whole shady final series, years of mediocrity, questionable DoPeS rulings, the whole league felt more like WWE than professional.
It feels kind of refreshing, not “being able to” check scores and trade forums. Time to move on and find more productive things to do with my time....the final nail in the “hockey isnt fun anymore” coffin.
Good luck everyone. So long, and thanks for all the fish.
