I always liked this guy. Not sure I see a fit here but his numbers are decent. I see him getting a chance.

Had sooooo much talent, but nooooo heart or desire. Similar to Virtanan, happy seeing that 10+million already in there bank accounts, knowing full well that is more then enough money to give them a glamours life.

Oilers gave Jake a tryout at last years camp, if another does the same for Goldy it will be the same result. Unfortunately for the millions of young adults and kid hockey players struggling around the world that could only wish for half there talent and just one of the many chances they had is a kick in the teeth.

Tryamkin says come back and join the party......

  2. Theses awards are voted by hockey writers and such. Most of which have never played hockey since there parents were tying there skates. (slight exaggeration) but not much. The fact Erik Karlsson will win the Norris this year says it all. He was the furthest thing from a deference man this year. Could you imagine Hughes, Makar, Fox, etc point total if they did what Karsson did this year?

There needs to be more Ted Lindsey type of awards. Voted on by the PLAYERS, NHLPA, and folks who actually know what it takes, and not people who spend 20 out of 24 hours a day on the internet dissecting every analytic possible.

Take this type of overrated hype, and the league/owners making sure the players that sell the most jerseys win the trophy's with the littlest grain of salt ever.

The people that matter (real knowledgeable fans), already know who wins.

I think I recall reading somewhere that Delia chose to sign with the Canucks because we had Ian Clark.  Might've been a Vancouver Sun article.

It was Kevin Woodley, USA today hockey writer goalie expert and The Hockey News goalie guru writer. I clearly remember him on 650 saying Clark was the main reason he came to Van, also praised the Canucks because we found a huge hidden gem with Delia.

Yup, that's been my point across multiple posts. Everyone thinks we can't make a move because no one wants our players. All you have to do is look at Capfriendly and realize that there are 4 teams out of 32, who could take Boeser at ANY price right now, without either moving significant salary back to us or to another team first. That takes time to engineer.

If we went to Tampa right now (or pretty much any of about 28 teams) and said, here, you can have Boeser for Future Consideration as long as you aren't sending salary back, they COULDN'T DO IT! Not without arranging a trade with another of the 4 other teams to take someone they probably don't want to just give away.

Pierre McGuire who has more NHL connections then the entire CBC panel combined, has just reported that the Canucks are not looking for picks or futures with any of the trade bait we have. NHL ready players who fit the mid 20's range +- a year or so. If its not a right handed centre and or R defence, there not listing. Things will be happening after xmas I am thinking.

I think it's too early for giving Kuze a ++$ contract.  How often have we seen guys come into the league

and have an incredibly successful season, only to find the other teams have 'read the book on him' and

his numbers plummet in his 2nd year.

Kuze has a terrific wrist shot, as well as a very good hockey sense around the net.  He has also benefited

greatly from playing alongside Pete and playing on the #1 PP.

Turning the table on the who we should/shouldn't extend (forward) talk, it is high time we talk about a much needed deference man who is quietly doing what is asked and then some.... Ethan Bear. Kid loves it in Van, and should just improve. Even if he stays status quo, the money he gets will be a bonus for what he brings. Looks like a perfect fit for both the organisation and him, and should come at a decent price.

After seeing his after hours last week, I still cant believe they passed him by on the second half of after hours around 6 weeks ago so Horvat could talk about his commercial with McDavid and other meaningless crap. CBC dodged a bullet for not getting hit by the social media grenade there.

Well if they're not, then they're going to be resigning Horvat.

That's the conundrum isn't it? Trade Bo, and you're down a centre (and who are we kidding here - Miller can't play centre full time...). But if you do happen to get a centre in return for Bo, then we're still at square one with respect to not having a RHD at the back end (an elite one).

Funny how we go from before the season started as one of the best teams with center depth, to 20 games later and now one of our biggest concerns. Trials and tribulations of being a Canucks fan.

There are lots of 1st round picks that don't pan out either.  Even top 10 picks.  Canucks fans know that better than most.  That's why you need to load up on picks, cause alot them don't pan out, but when they do they can make or break your team.  Some of the greatest defenceman of the last 20 years have been drafted in the 2nd round.  So you collect more picks and you take a shot.  If you have no picks by trading them away you have a zero shot of getting a top player.  That 2nd round pick that we get for Luke Schenn could turn out to be Duncan Keith, PK Subban or Shea Weber.

You will never draft a Shea Weber unless you take the shot and collect those 2nd round picks.  Instead, you will be in a constant state of panic like we are in right now in terms of trying to figure out how to get a top 4 RHDman.

Think of draft picks as darts. The more you have, the better chance to hit a bullseye.

Myers for anything and let's get some cap space.

Whatever trade that is made, we will immediately be a lesser team. Sucks to lose that big presence and minutes guy, but the salary retained is long(er) term gain. Saying that we better not play Hughs to the point of exhaustion and injury to make up for him.

Wonder when the last time a generational player played for their favourite team?

He should do a Lindros and refuse to go to the team that drafts him. Probably a rule was made after that draft, not that it benefited Philly much in the grand scheme of things.

One could hope, as there will be no way we will win a draft lottery.

Exactly this, I think we over-simplify things too. Defence isn't just your defenders, it's your forwards as well.

Edmonton's team defence from their forwards is dreadful. McDavid and Draisaitl are relatively lazy back-checkers. Then look at guys like Crosby and MacKinnon - they are absolute dogs coming back and defending, and they know how to play physically too. As a 5 man squad, the Avs defended well but to be fair they played more of a possession game anyway.

Makar and Toews are far from the best defensive defencemen in the world. When you look at the cream of the crop in say Hedman, they're IMO nowhere near as strong defensively or in front of their own net. They played defence a different way - quick passes and great skating. This is the new NHL and probably the first time a mobile defence has trumped a solid physical defence in a long, long time.

As for the Canucks, right now our defence is neither. Hughes is a great passer and skater, one of the best in the league, but he's going nowhere if he's the only one out there. I think Petey and Bo have played brilliant defensively but when you've got Miller out there and Myers on the back-end, that 5 man unit is going to get eaten up.

Teams win now by having literally every 5 man unit on the ice solid defensively, and it looks like just about anyone can score now, but not everyone can defend well. Edmonton aren't going anywhere, you could argue either are the Leafs, because as a 5 man unit their guys struggle defensively. Nurse is a fantastic big, strong defenceman who can score 50-60 points easily, but he is sometimes suspect defensively.

I believe a healthy Hughs can get more points then any dman today with a right fit. Look at his ppg with frickin Schwan?? However winning a Norris and being considered top 3 is more than points. Give him a partner like Tanev and watch him flourish!....

Yea I agree with you Martin have been better than Demko I don’t deny or argue that. But they both are below average and not really the reason why we won games. Martins stats with his 4 wins in November sv% wise is still worse than Demko and his gaa were also worse than Demko prior to Colorado game despite having 3 wins. Demko needs to get better totally agree. But to say Martin is the only reason why we are winning is laughable when your team have to consistently score 4+ goals to win a game you are winning in spite of your goalie.

The Oilers have been proving for a few years you need above average goaltending to go on a run. Fortunately Colorado proved it only needs to actually be slightly above. Fortunately X2 we have a proven goalie that will soon get back to his normal self and this will be a mute point.

I agree with everything you say, except the "Had to Be McCabe" angle

Thanks and I agree now, he never turned out to be anything more then a second line dman at best. Not sure if that was injury related or not, but he was projected to be a modern day Fox, Heiskanen, dare I say Hughs? Type dman. So I can see why Bowman and the bitches were horney for him.

Hated Keenan and hated that Linden trade.  But clearly it was a fabulous deal for our future.  And that’s exactly what we need to accomplish with a Bo trade.  But can our owner see a futures return for Bo as what’s needed for us to become a better team, so it’s something he will allow?

Well if Aquaman puts his guard down, hopefully our scouts have done their homework. Were in make it or break it time, and could be one of the most important moves this club has ever seen.

Oh should also be noted, we did get Mr. Linden back eventually to.

    still could have got done

with Ohlund, Jovo, Sopel, Brasheer, Moglny, Linden

Minus Sopal, Brashear we may have. The point was McCabe was a key component to get the deal done. Maybe Chicago was not interested in quality players, but heading south career wise. Maybe McCabe was the young stud Dman, and him or nothing?

    Moral of the story a massive unpopular trade at the time, with undoubtedly one of the top 3 players the organization ever had plus a few plugs gave us;

    Bertuzzi, Luongo, Hank n Danny.

Not starting a debate of coulda, shoulda, woulda with other players. We will never know, but we do know what did work.

Once again trades are a gamble...

I'm glad someone understands my pick frustration

We've def had misses but if we actually held on to our 2nd rounders we'd probably get more hits :(

Trades are a gamble, some work some don't.

Remember Linden to NYI for youngsters named Bertuzzi and McCabe? Without McCabe the Sedin draft deal unlikely would be done. Bert eventually turned into a Luongo deal... You just never know what the hockey gods have in store.

Petey is the best defensively, Horvat has been used as a match up player but he's only ok at it.  To say that he's not responsible though would be misleading.  That's what I'm saying.  Nobody complains about his play on the defensive side.

With Petey once again getting attention outside of BC, the comparison to Datsyuk are getting hot. Id say he is our best bet for an trophy other then Stanley with a future Selke. Flip a coin with Demko- Vezna or Hughs- Norris. Obviously either 3 will not be within the next 2 or so years. So long as Bo keeps scoring there will be no complaints. Never heard a TBL fan bitch about Stamkos's defensive game.

hoglander has not played great since BB took over and almost immediately their minutes were dropped from about 15 a game to about 10-11. it seems hoglander is in the doghouse.

another fact is that even though hoglander has been in the doghouse the entirety of the time BB has been here. Dries still has played less games and averages less minutes when he plays too.

Maybe Dries takes over from hoglander, but im guessing BB is just sitting him in the corner to think about what he has done.

Hogs got a bit of top line munuets earlier with injuries. However once he made a few bad plays that all growing young players do, he got thrown to the 4th, or wearing a suit watching in the players box. Basically it's here's your chance on the top 6 to prove yourself for a game, if you don't, your back to square one. How can a young player learn and grow with either all the pressure on the top 2, or little to no playing time?  I'm no player and development expert, but something tells me that is exactly what not to do.

That is a dumb measuring stick… nothing is a “guarantee” of success.

What is more likely to result in success is the grown up decision.  Tinkering around a little bit with a roster that can’t make the playoffs isn’t a realistic sway to win a Stanley Cup.

Never once implied that i'm for putting a bandage on and "tinkering" with this current team. Sometimes getting a generational pick is a Mckinnon, or a McDavid/Matthews. Its the whole team that gets the cup, not the one talent.

Your acting like mcdavid is the issue here. it's the fact he is playing in one of the worst if not the worst city to attract UFA's. look at the money they had to offer nurse to stay.

    Mcdavid is a victim.

Well they have the 2 best players in the world, and was released on Tuesday they have moved ahead of Vancouver as the 3rd most profitable NHL Canadian team. Just so you know before you keep dissing more successful organizations.

No, I came into the picture during the Sedin years, but I do know that regardless of how bad this feels right now there were definitely worse time periods for Canucks fans in their history, at one point being a phone call away from moving away from BC entirely, so I try to keep some perspective despite the emotions and frustrations I currently feel as a fan. I’m not completely opposed to trading Horvat, just don’t know if that’s the right move to send away the only guy who’s bringing it each and every game and what message that sends to all the rest of our players.

I remember when Boston traded Ray Bourque to Colorado. Only difference is Ray meant way more to the Bruins organization the Bo does. Ray finally one a cup, and Boston reaped rewards after. Something for you to ponder.
