  1. Two points in his last twelve games. :\

    I'm not worried.

This season is going to be a bid adjustment for Schroeder and there are going to be struggles. I realize last year in his short stint his ppg was pretty good, but a lot of those points came in two big games.

I think Schroeder will hit 45 - 50 points this year, with most of them coming in the latter chunk of the season.

EDIT: It's also possible part of the problem is who he is playing with. In the sense that Schroeder probably works best with a goalscorer with size and the Moose don't really have one of those.

  2. Unlike Hodgson, I don't think Schroeder has the pressure on him to get to the NHL asap. (justified or not when it comes to Hodgson)

Schroeder can take 2 or 3 years in the AHL and very few people will bat an eye. He won't be needed till the 2012/2013 season.

  3. a steal by Detroit. I'm kinda pissed he landed in Detroit of all places.

2010 - Jarnkrok (and a Fin in Pulkkinen in the 4th Round)

    2009 - Adam Almqvist (7th Round)

    2008 - Gustav Nyquist (4th Round)

    damn them

I also imagine Joakim Andersson from the 2007 draft (3rd Rounder) will develop into a good 3rd Liner in a couple years.

  4. GSP is the King of Take-downs, since he'll be putting more weight on I'd expect his lower body strength to be off the charts.

But Silva's length might be GSP's undoing.

It would come down to whether GSP can get inside Silva's reach, taking a page out of the Mike Tyson book of Boxing. GSP is still lightning quick and at 35 Silva looks to have slowed down. If GSP is too quick for Silva, he could win.

  5. That performance by Silva, will just show that GSP would beat the Spider any day of the week. GSP's got world class wrestling, and if he cant take down him down he can stand and bang with the spider something of which Sonnen really couldn't do. But for now i want a rematch!!!!!!!

Pretty funny that Goldberg said Silva was "still the best fighter on the planet" after the fight. Yes, Silva won, but he was dominated the whole fight and was able to capitalize on the fact Sonnen can't really KO people, usually winning his fights by decisions. It was a great move by Silva at the end, but if Sonnen was able to land punches like that, imagine what Belfort can do.

  6. I would still favor GSP in that fight. I doubt he's getting submitted. Would be more give-and-take than with Sonnen, though.

I used to think GSP vs Silva was a stupid fight since GSP is just too small physically. Silva should really be a LHW (would still need to cut weight) and GSP wouldn't even need to cut weight to fight at Middleweight. However, watching Silva these last few fights, I think GSP would have a chance.

That said, I think Belfort will KO Silva, as he has quicker hands and more power then Sonnen.

  7. they get a bonus cushion above the cap though, that they can apply any reached bonuses against the cap in the following year. I think it doesn't apply next year though, due to the CBA ending after the season.

That's true, but that also has its risks because you might need that cap space more next season.

    Right Chicago?

  8. Yeah he'll be on a standard ELC depending on draft position/year etc. plus I'm fairly certain the whole 1.75M is only if he reaches certain milestones and he'll get somewhat less if he doesn't, like half or so. If I'm wrong feel free to correct me.

Yes half of it is hard to reach bonuses, however, it all goes against the cap. The reason for that is because they are performance bonuses you won't know until after game 82 whether or not he has reached them. As such, say there is a bonus for 30 goals, he could enter game 82 with 5 goals and still technically have a chance at 30. (although wholly unrealistic) So all rookie bonuses go against the cap.

Whereas with Mathieu Schneider, his were based off games played which you can judge part way through the season, so the cap application is different.

  9. He's already done the year that that's talking about. If that's true, then Rodin agreed to spend another season in sweden (the season he just finished) before the draft last June. Then when he got drafted by our team he had already made a commitment to play in sweden, meaning that even if he wanted to come over he couldn't. Capiche?

Go back to my post about the quote from Rodin, clearly he can leave this off-season if he wants to.

  10. I just took part in the Province chat thing and Tony Gallagher said something like "Rodin cannot wait to get out of their fast enough. He committed to Sweden before getting drafted and would have not done so if he knew he would have gone to Vancouver in 2nd Round. But he had to make decision before draft"

  11. I saw somewhere he was signed to a 2 year contract when he was drafted by Vancouver. But I hope I'm wrong.

Have the Canucks given you any indication on when you might play in North America with the Canucks or maybe with their farm team, the Manitoba Moose?

Anton Rodin – I’m taking it one year at a time. I have one year at Brynäs so I’ll finish this season and then I’ll see what I do.

Peter Andersson – Yeah, me too.

Andersson signed a 1-year extension, Rodin has't yet, which leads me to believe that he does plan to come over. Andersson gets good minutes in the SEL, whereas Rodin is still in a limited role, which may push him to come over. We'll see once Byrnas's season is finished.

  12. It's easier to adjust when you're getting paid and you don't have to worry about a midterm or assignment... Even if it's "just AHL salary".

As somebody who has played a sport for a University, I can attest to how much it sucks when you're on the road and have assignments waiting for you back home.

  13. from what I watched of Schroeder, he would have had double the points if he had decent line mates. I'd find it hard to be motivated if I had to play with them as well.

Yeah, I saw about 6 Gopher games this year and it reminded me of when Tommi Santala was the "trigger-man" on the Sedin line.

  14. I dont think he will make the same mistake as Patrick White. I highly doubt White will get a pro contract, and although he will indeed have a great education, I imagine he would do it differently if he go back in time.

The chances of Schroeder risking a couple million dollars to stay in school seems like a long shot.

If Schroeders career goes bust in 4-5 years he can figure out what to do then. A few mill in the bank gives a guy a few more options, and he will still only be 25 years old.

After seeing what has happened to the Gophers program the last couple years with things like Okposo leaving, Jim O'Brien leaving and questions about Lucia's integrity and overall coaching ability. I wonder if things could have been different for White if he had gone to a different school or the even the WHL.

  15. Wow I really don't know whether to cheer for the Gophers or not. I mean, on the one hand I want Schroeder to lead his team deep into the NCAA playoff tournament and dominate, but on the other hand I'd love to see him suit up for the Moose as well although his confidence might take a hit if his college team gets bounced early.

Schroeder strikes me as a confident guy, I doubt the Gophers struggles would phase him.

Hopefully the relative failure that is this season for Minnesota will push him to turn Pro.
