  1. BREAKING NEWS: A 6.7 Quake has shifted the earth on the West Coast of BC... the stars are aligned for a Cup run win next season!

Yeah, an earthquake just a week after the lunar eclipse... keep your eyes open for four horsemen.

  2. ‏@KristenOdlandCH

Clearly I hadn't seen the severity of the injury on Sedin or a proper replay of the hit Byron laid out. Sorry for offending. Hope he is OK.

    Well, at least she apologized.

I like the whole tone of "Obviously I wasn't at fault for my words but 'Sorrrry.'"

Despite the fact that the severity of the hit was immediately apparent.

  3. Kristen Odland, the POS reporter from Calgary, can go screw herself with her gutless comments about the Sedins after that. Real professional there, Kristen. Hope you're fired.

I missed them, can you elaborate?

More of a bad hit rather than an intentional cheapshot. Suspendable but malice was not intended.

    Agreed.

  4. from what trevor said about style of play... i do believe Torts will be here and players will be on the way out.

Funny, I ended up with the opposite impression ("I believe in this core" etc. etc.) though I also get the impression nothing has been officially decided.

  5. Would these guys mind flying their Toronto freak flags elsewhere?

This reminds me of a funny story. I was on a ship where the Captain was a die hard Leafs fan and the Second Mate was an equally die hard Habs fan. As we passed a group of people waving on shore in the St. Lawrence the Captain ordered the Mate to sound a salute on the whistle and wave to the crowd. The Mate didn't know why but he shrugged his shoulders and followed the order.

Turns out it was Richard Peddie and his family and we had a giant Leafs flag flying from our stern...

  6. Whoa....and you think you have a rough job?

I'll admit that that would be pretty bad on a fishing boat.

This is raw footage from a storm in 2011 when we took shelter in St. George's Bay, Newfoundland. It is tough to get the scale of the waves rolling past us but they're getting up to around 35ft. It got much worse that night as we started to take rollers over the bow and we ripped apart our anchor windlass. Ultimately we had no choice but to use the engines to prevent the ship from slamming into the shore (about 1nm behind us).

The wind was steady around 75kts and ended up gusting to 89kts. That night it got over 100kts.

Oh, and while we were nice and comfortable on the bridge... listen to the radio call at 3:30. That's the First Mate on another ship calling his bridge telling them he's made it to the forward end of the vessel and that he is going to try to raise the anchor (if it is too rough you can steam into the swell to prevent the kind of damage we ended up doing to our windlass). He has literally tied himself to the railing in order to stop from being blown overboard. Amazingly, he eventually managed to get the anchor up.

Also, this is someone else's video of my most recent ship. The pictures were taken during a trip across the Atlantic in the late '80s... (music, video, and pictures are not mine)

Just for a size comparison, that structure on the deck of the ship is the pump house. Here is a picture of two 6ft guys standing on top of it...

  7. Also the Grey Cup is one of the few events that the Americans haven't taken over and screwed up yet, it is basically a Canadian party, so lets celebrate with Canadian artists, Lightfoot is a legend, his music is a bit mellow but no more so than Blue Rodeo, Beiber is the hot ticket (Odin only knows why) at the moment, I must confess I am not familiar with the other singer, I rarely listen to radio or Muchmusic.

I get what you're saying, and it is clearly what the organizers are thinking... but if you are the CFL and are going to be using the "Canadian artists" theme (as they often do) I am sure you could dig up a band or two that would present a more consistent(?) show. Like someone else said, I have no love for Nickelback but they'd fit a lot more than shoehorning Lightfoot in with pure pop,

I also liked the "under 16, over 60 crowd" comment.

BTW, I have no choice but to like Lightfoot... I sail on a freakin' Great Lakes Freighter....

  8. No. This is wrong on so many levels. I hated the Nickelback deal, but at least it was football crowd music - loud, rowdy, fire 'em up crap that suited the atmosphere. This is blasphemy. Expect 900,000 screaming 12 year olds to show up.

Maybe it plays well in Toronto?
