I forgot her name but she sang both The Star Spangled Banner and O Canada for one game late last season. I believe it was the Canucks vs the Kings but I could be mistaken. It was on a night when the Canucks were promoting autism awareness. She was absolutely incredible. She sang both anthems in their entirety to perfection in a strong baritone opera voice.

Miriah Reitmeier - local singer - on the spectrum.

Good choice. Ray has his flaws.  Gets a little stubborn and bent out of shape on some topics. But he's always enjoyable to listen to, and insightful.  I was honestly dreading this decision, that it might be someone like Joey Kenward *shudder* or another of the schmoes from 650

I honestly thought Ray was 'too big' for us. I thought he's made it into the national, and American market now.  Why would he come back to BC,  in the remote corner of the hockey world, to start a new job. Doing games when half the country is already going to bed.

Hearing how Bieksa is being let go in HNIC, if I had my druthers, I think Ray is better suited to Kevin's spot there speaking nationally, and I'd then rather have Kevin come back here to do colour for the Canucks.

Hansen would have been an okay choice too.  I really like his radio spots.  But his voice, and delivery, could get a little tiring IMO.

I think people are getting ahead of themselves. We know this:

There has been nothing even close to an announcement about Ferraro being the  Canucks #1 TV analyst.

Dave Tomlinson is leaving the Kraken for an "opportunity in Canada."

Kevin Bieksa has confirmed he will be back on HNIC>

That's pretty much it. Anything else is pure speculation.  Stay away from the crappy blogs.

I highly doubt he is making millions doing one game per week.  Also, he needs to travel in the US to do those games.  With this new gig, he would be in Vancouver 50% of the time.

The point you clearly missed is Sportsnet could not pay him anything close to what he makes now. He has no 12, 10, 8, 6 or even 4 day road trips right now. And there's the wife thing. Also, the word was jillions.

I would say the leading candidate to replace Garrett is Ray Ferraro.  He lives in Vancouver with his wife Cammi, who is an AGM for the Canucks.  I believe he left TSN last year so not even sure what he's doing now.  I think he is on a podcast.  Ferraro is one of my favourites as well.  He could spend lots of time with his family as half of the games are at home.  I believe the reason he quit TSN was to spend more times with his 2 kids he has with Cammi.

My money to replace Garrett is Ferraro...

Ferraro is making jillions working for ESPN, doing one game a week. No chance.

I recall some gawd awful teams in the 70's and 80's but don't recall there being as much negativity in the fan base. We were just happy to have an NHL team.

Of course there was negativity.  FFS the team was dead last in the NHL in attendance twice in the 80's and 2nd last two other times.  Not going to games that were sold out the first several years is the most potent form of negativity.

Source? It could have been that I was looking at League revenue instead of Team revenue but I'm 100% that the sport as a whole makes far more from it's corporate sponsors than it does its fans. I cant seem to find the link where I saw a breakdown of this before, but I looked into recently and they make multiple times more money from ads than they do ticket sales a merch combined.

PS. I dont know why I'm being made out to be a bad guy in saying these things. I'm just pointing out what's true (not necessarily directing this at you, westcoasting. More for the others above).

Move the goalposts as much as you like, but only a handful of teams make more from corporate ads/tv than tickets.

    No, I wasn't kidding.

If I was kidding I would have started with "These two Nuns are walking in the park; when they get accosted by a flasher."

Lol. That is an entirely acceptable answer. But please don't leave us hanging on the outcome.

Then how about 50% of the ads on the actual boards have to be national advertisers. Or just the ones facing the cameras. Then you can have local ads that you don't see. Wouldn't that be a better solution than digital ads?

Well, in a word, no. Digital ads give the NHL (read: your team) the ability to tailor the ads to a specific audience.  The ads you see on a Canucks regional game (home or away) are tailored to a BC audience - Park Hotel, the Province, Fasken. The visiting broadcast has ads tailored to their own market. The technology is infinitely flexible - and that means a lot more revenue for the league and teams.  Certainly much more than what half the live arena audience would bring in.

Stupid, stupid and really damn stupid to have moving signs like that.

Multi million dollar hockey players, playing at incredible speed, in a dangerous environment; now have to worry about the end boards and just exactly where they are.

Visual distractions, possibly leading to a career ending injury, for the sake of an extra $100  of revenue.

I've been waiting for some team to put a visual of 4 goalies across the rink end, or have an 'add' that looks like a defenseman coming at them with his elbow and stick up at face height.

Home ice advantage- taken advantage of.

You're kidding, right? Only TV viewers see the ads.
