NEW - British Columbia no longer providing individual case information to families about COVID cases. Schools will instead report out attendance if it drops below 'typical rates'. #bcpoli

A pretty sweet bomb to drop 3 days before schools open.

"Month after month after month, week after week, B.C. decided not to follow the science and ignore (airborne transmission) and I think it's lead to preventable deaths and infections,” he said, describing aerosol spread as the province’s Achilles heel.

In the spring of 2021, B.C.’s reluctance to accept the science of airborne transmission made health officials the target of an international review that called the stubbornness “both a mystery and a scandal.”

Possamai, who has criticized B.C.’s secrecy and refusal to collect or disclose data in another report, pointed out there’s an urgent need to address the airborne transmission gap in the province’s policies and public health education.

“We need to start getting this right and I think every week that in B.C. portable air purifiers are not put into schools and other facilities is a week lost and a week that endangers children and their families,” he insisted. “We really need to look seriously at this."

Or you could just count all the cases properly and do the easy math instead of fudging the numbers. To me, it appears as a complete failure of their own health policies. They would be too embarrassed with the real covid numbers, because it indicates they didn't do their job. And that would be correct - they didn't do their job.

Even the WHO admits covid is airborne now, and we still aren't wearing N95 in the hospitals as the most important safety measure.
Don't take my word for it though. You don't need a twitter account. Just go to twitter dot com and search Bonnie Henry "latest tweets". Those aren't crazy people - half of them are verified doctors and experts in their field. Her implemented policies that don't follow the science are a large part of the problem.

Bonnie’s stubbornness to adapt and reliance on empty platitudes outstayed their welcome long ago.

Today's COVID-19 briefing in B.C. marks a significant shift in the province's fight against the virus. Businesses and people know what to do to prevent spread. Health orders are not the long term solution. #bcpoli

They’ve picked an interesting time to switch to more of a “fend for yourself” approach.

Again, I agree with what you're saying and do think the province has been bad for fence sitting through it all.  However, I also acknowledge that BC has done pretty well through this pandemic

They’ve said this variant has “changed things” but unless I’m missing it I haven’t seen any updated protocols or discussions regarding return to school.

100% agree, but it's going to be 3-4 weeks before we really know what the impact is going to be on the healthcare system, but even with a mild strain it's going to severely bend, maybe even break the health care system.

They are saying this strain is as infectious as measles, one of the most infectious virus' in history.  Tye time half ass things is not now, whether we like it or not.

But that’s exactly what they are doing. 50% attendance caps on concerts and sports while completely eliminating access to fitness facilities yet making no changes to school protocols is almost the definition of half assing things.

Absolute joke shutting down gyms.  Why didn't they just go back to the limited system we had before where I had to book my workout time so there was limited people there at a given time frame.  Yes lets shut down something that helps people stay fit and healthy and aren't the ones being the strain on the medical system while we let the unhealthy people continue going through McDonalds and getting that burger, extra large coke with a side of fries.....

Now don’t you worry the decision was based on “science.”

South Africa delivered some positive news on the omicron coronavirus variant on Friday, reporting a much lower rate of hospital admissions and signs that the wave of infections may be peaking.

Only 1.7% of identified Covid-19 cases were admitted to hospital in the second week of infections in the fourth wave, compared with 19% in the same week of the third delta-driven wave, South African Health Minister Joe Phaahla said at a press conference.

Still early but this is what I’m keeping an eye on.

Just speculation, but it seems to me as though the more exposure to Green's system, the worse they did.

We talk about the league figuring out certain players after a period of time, but we rarely talk about it in terms of coaching. Green was stubbornly attached to his counterattack system, but if the rest of the league figures out that "Hey, if just make sure to focus on limiting our turnovers, the Canucks won't be able to pressure us", then our offensive players simply aren't going to have the chance to do anything.

Looking back, we were spoiled by the quality of the team from 2009 to 2013. We had other problems at that time, but I would do anything to bring back that kind of success again, at least in the regular season.

And not just the success but the overall vibe and character. Guys like Kesler, Burrows, and Bieksa (maybe my favorite Canuck from a character and personality standpoint).

"As far as talking about me, I’ve been a Canuck my whole career, never been asked to waive my no-trade clause, I never asked to leave anywhere. I’m a Canuck at heart and I’m going down with the ship. I’ll be here until they throw me out of here." - Bieksa 2014 :(

The Canucks are a work in progress.  I expected a slow start and I see no reason why they won't play much better towards the end of the season.

I never expected to win the division but I still think that they have a shot at the top 3 in their division.  They won't likely catch Edmonton.  They look better than I expected.  Calgary I would consider to be at a similar level.  I don't expect San Jose or Anaheim to remain ahead of the Canucks and there's no telling how Vegas will end up.

This is a season for growth.

    2015 - 2016: 28th

    2016 - 2017: 29th

    2017 - 2018: 26th

    2018 - 2019: 23rd

    2019 - 2020: 17th (WOOO)

    2020 - 2021: 24th

We've been a "work in progress" searching for "growth" for over half a decade now.

    Alberta is #1!

Poor Saskatchewan and BC suffering from proximity to Alberta. The further away from Alberta the lower the deaths. Have no idea if there's any actual correlation but BC definitely had its fair share of Alberta visitors during the summer.
