  1. yeah i think 2 episodes back the witch told stannis that the real war is up north and that they need to set sail with everyone they have. they even showed it in the "last time on game of thrones" at the beginning of the episode.

as for the fireball girl, i'm pretty sure it's a cliffhanger for next season.

Melisandre see's this. But I am not sure Stannis is completely sold on that yet, I still think he is driven only by the Iron Throne

  2. Am I only one that was a bit disappointed by the finale? It was good but I heard rumours of how awesome it was and it didn't really live up to the hype. Lots of new unexplained things like the kids trowing random fire balls or Stanis suddenly showing up in the North. Glad Tyrion survived though he's by far the best charector on the show.

Stannis showing up isnt that random. If you remember; Davos received a raven last season asking for help, he brought it to the attention of Stannis... From Stannis' POV he sees an army of 100,000... An army that he doesnt have to take the 7 kingdoms

  3. Do it. Book 3 is where you will see how the books are superior to the show.

But you may want to start from Book 1 to 'get' the feel for all the details and the mysteries surrounding Ned's past.

Ya, but like I said... If you're going to do that, read the Dany chapters in book 2, the whole Quarth trip is very different in the books, and a meeting later in book 5 wont make sense otherwise.

  4. I thought this episode was fn awesome, but from the sounds of it.. I should start reading the books. Anyone know where I would start to align myself with the tv show?

    Hahaha

Skip book 1, as it is nearly idenitical in every way (obviously you learn more about the characters, but is skippable) Book 2 is where the show began to deviate, especially with Dany in Quarth. The last two seasons of the show are taken from books 3-5 and all have major plot changes.

    *Edit*

Ok MAJOR plot changes is a stretch, but it is different. The show has completely excluded some characters.

  5. 22 Jump Street : 7/10

As funny as the first, if you were worried about rehashing jokes, or it not being as funny as number one.. Dont be, this was a very entertaining and funny movie. What I found awesome is that it is extremely self aware that it is a sequel. The conversation with Nick Offerman (dept Captain) about trying the same formula from the first time with a bigger budget because we're too lazy to come up with anything new was hilarious (Tatum's character even goes so far to say, "We could be secret service agents and protect the white house and president from a terrorist attack... That would be cool", there are also numerous references made to the "budget" and not being able to damage anything else due to budget constraints.

I enjoyed it, and the end credits scene was brilliant.

  6. Non-Stop 5/10

Typical Liam Neeson action flick. Why Julliane Moore is in this movie at all is beyond me, her character seemed like it was created just to get another A lister in the film. Everything she did could have been easily done by the underused Lupita Nyongo's character, or any other random passenger.

    Very generic, but watchable

  7. He would have been still standing on third if Lawrie didnt drive him home..I watched the game..sorry...I like Gose"s speed...but thats about it...the guy cant hit.

Colby needs to be back where he belongs

Gose brings a lot with that speed... He also had the walk off bunt that led to the error last week. You can say what you want about his ability to hit singles, but he plays d well and when he gets on base he is deadly. I say he stays, Trade Colby for another pitcher.

  8. just saw Godzilla

9/10 for me almost 10/10 if it weren't for the flat characters and brutal acting not by Bryan of course but his Son and even some minor characters in this film just felt lifeless and pointless to even be there

i appreciate a story and the whole human element but felt like they pushed that more than Godzilla himself but i can forgive it because the times he was on screen it was pure epicness

I disagree with your comments on the acting, as do many critics. Elizabeth Olsen was very good, so was Aaron Johnson. But its opinion I guess.

  9. Honestly not trying to start a fan-boy war... But all of you who listed price as the major selling point for the PS4, but have not yet bought one, are you going to be getting the $50 cheaper-than-ps4 XB1?

  10. As promised....

    GODZILLA (2014) 8.5/10

Ok, I will try not to be long winded.

Most of the time summer blockbusters are heavy on CGI and lack character depth, this movie flips that on its head, and more than that... It actually develops characters and makes you care for them, especially Cranston, man can this guy act (even if the story is far fetched). it is a little slow moving, so those expecting explosions and destruction start to finish will be left wanting, but the monster fighting scenes do not disappoint. Granted, many will be dissapointed by the on screen time of the titular monster and his foe, but if you appreciate the cast and plot development (yes I know i may get flamed for that one in a monster/sci-fi movie) you let it slide.

To call this epic is and understatement, it is a spectacle, and from someone who has watched almost all of the 1950-1970 era godzilla films as a kid, this one is the great homage to those that Godzilla 1998 was not. The director also directed one of the most underrated sci-fi films in the past decade Monsters, and like Michael Bay, he knows his audience and how to cater to them, but unlike Bay, it is not at the expense of story. The CGI, cinemetography really lends itself to appreciate the scale and destruction. I emphasize scale because, at 300ft tall, this Godzilla is twice the size of any of the Toho era godzilla, and easily trumps Mathew Broderiks foe... And he looks it, the few times we get a full shot of the monster are awe inspiring, and just plain cool.

Go see this movie, I saw it in 3D, and for once, I am glad I did. The extra dimension helped with the grandiosity of the final battle and the destruction scenes as a whole...

MINOR SPOILER*** NOTHING PERTAINING TO MOVIE PLOT

I think I am most happy that they close this one off, yes they can do a sequel, but they didnt go the cliched route of having an obvious out for a second installment. This is a stand alone movie, and should be appreciated as such.

  11. The Hills have eyes: 8/10 - a great horror movie with a setting I enjoyed.

The Hills have eyes 2: 3/10 - stick with the original because the sequel sucks. Copied the first one in some aspects and overall just wasn't well done.

Ah... the irony in that one... I am assuming that you are talking about the 2006 version of Hills as the "original" right? That itself was a remake of a far superior horror movie by Wes Craven in '77.

I havent posted in this thread for a while, so ill update my recent viewings:

Neighbors- 7/10 I love the Rogan/Apatow crew, This is the End was teriffic and they are the best R-Rated comedy team right now... This was a bit of a disappointment, the belly laughs were there a few times, but it was slow in between the big jokes, and a lot of the little ones were forgettable. Still recommend, and I had a good time. Perhaps some of the smaller jokes will grow on me with repeated viewings.

Monuments Men- 7/10 Its Oceans 14 in WW2 without a big heist... Great Cast (this cannot be stated enough), ok story, so-so execution.

Robocop (2014) - 2/10 God aweful. Give me the 80's classic all day... I wouldnt buy this one for a dollar.

The Other Woman - 4/10 I know I am not the target demo here; But my girl see's movies that allow my inner nerd to come out like 300, Transformers, etc. So this is payback and I am usually happy to oblige. Most rom-com's dont bother me that much, they have enough laughs and pretty girls to keep me at least interested... Not this one, Yes Kate Upton is an amazing beautiful goddess, but outside of that, this is a film for girls to bring their girlfriends on a girls night. Its an empowering woman film, barely any good laughs, even fewer for the men.

The Road - 8/10 Finally watched this one on netflix, great movie, gripping and sad.Having read the novel, this was a decent adaption.

  12. Typical. Elder Scrolls Online has been postponed by c. six months by Bethesda.

They have just lost my pre-order - by Christmas we'll have had Destiny, Halo, a new LOTR game...no need to pay to play ESO when there are so many great games on the market at that point.

Time to revise my plan for the summer!

The mere fact that you plan your summer around video games is troubling ...

  13. I own Assassin's Creed 4, Battlefield 4, Titanfall, and NFS: Rivals

I'm looking forward to Destiny, NHL 15 and Halo.

I don't play XB1 much outside of Titanfall. I find myself playing my 360 more because of the game library but that's the issue with launch consoles. As soon as Destiny/NHL 15 come out I can see the official transition happening for me.

NHL and Madden are the only reasons I keep playing my 360 at all, once next years versions of both are out its good bye 360...

Although, I also use it right now until MS gets off their ass and allows USB video playback to the One... Insane that they still havent added that feature. I run an older version of windows and cant stream to my Xbone yet.

  14. My thoughts on XB1 games / plans for coming months:

Titanfall - best game I've ever played! If it was the only game I owned I'd never tire of it. Superb.

FIFA 14 - fantastic game, now finally started playing Pro Clubs (never played it before). No need to buy FIFA 15, this is a great game that will last ages.

AC4 - beautiful game, love the naval aspect. Much more enjoyable than previous AC incarnations. Won't be buying Unity for a while though, as this has so much content

Lego Marvel - only just started this, looks good, is fun to play. So many characters to use! Makes me hopeful for the other two Lego games.

Forza 5 - sadly, single player is tedious now, and multiplayer is full of morons. I won't be playing again.

Ryse - not played since February

Battlefield 4 + Call of Duty Ghosts + Thief - traded in/sold. BF4 was the worst game I've ever played (when I could), COD was made redundant by Titanfall, and Thief had that major bug that lost me nearly 8 hours of gaming that I would have to replay. I wasn't going to do that!

    May = Lego Marvel + AC4 + Titanfall + FIFA 14

June = Elder Scrolls Online (cannot wait!) + Lego Marvel + FIFA 14

    July = ESO + AC4 + FIFA 14

    August = ESO + Titanfall + FIFA 14

Having read reviews of Watch Dogs, I'm now convinced I'd hate it. Looks like GTA (series I hate) mixed with Metal Gear (series I hate), mixed with Hitman (series I hate). Not interested in Wolfenstein. Kinect Sports is rubbish, glad I borrowed it rather than bought it.

Still deciding whether to pre-order Destiny or not. Any suggestions?

I have wolfenstein pre-ordered... although that was almost more for the Doom beta than anything else... But it does look pretty sweet. I really wish renting games was still something that could be done, I really wanna play Sniper Elite 3 when it comes out, but I am not paying 60$ for it, ditto with EA UFC.

  15. For those of you complaining about the $5k fine, blame the NHLPA.

To expand on that for those who dont know why he only got 5k, the NHLPA argued for a maximum player fine, which is $5,000. If they didnt think it was suspension worthy (which i dont understand) the max fine is 5k.

In Quenvilles case; he isnt a member of the NHLPA and not party to those fine sanctions, they can fine them what they feel necessary

  16. I haven't seen Spring Breakers, but your description made it sound exactly like Requiem, which I absolutely loathed. I've also seen Black Swan (hated) and The Wrestler (indifferent), with no desire to see anything more by him.

Where did Aranofsky come from? He has nothing to do with Spring Breakers.... lol

  17. Am debating a purchase, but have a few qualms.

How is the kinect in smaller rooms? I don't have much space with my bed, entertainment center, and dresser taking up most of the floor area in my room?

Are kinect arm gestures operable from a sitting position? This was a real issue with the 360.

How is the wireless receive on the console? I don't feel like drilling another hole for Ethernet.

I have the kinect in a small condo sized den, works well, it has a great setup/configuration menu when you start up.

Yes, kinect gestures work while sitting.

My wireless has run flawlessly, however I am also only 6 feet away from the router.... So take that for what its worth.
