Wow, This will be my last post. Been here since 2007 and have posted less than 130 times. Great place to lurk, already signed up with a new identity at the new board. So grateful to those who started that, talk about making lemonade out of lemons! Aloha, see you all at the new digs!

From The Athletic:
"The 6-foot, 190-pound right-shot defenceman’s athleticism began to shine through as well. He finished second in overall testing at the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game’s combine after finishing in the top five among the 40 skaters in four different tests (first in backward skating with puck, third in weave agility, third in transition agility, and fourth in forward skate with puck). He performed exceedingly well at the NHL Scouting Combine in Buffalo in June, too, finishing in the top 10 in testing in the VO2 Max (seventh), pro agility (ninth), anaerobic peak output (second) and anaerobic mean output (fourth)."
Fingers are crossed for this pick.

Aquilini is obviously trying to make himself look good. Fail.
Jagr willed himself to the Penguins. True fact. He told the top 4 teams he would not come to the NHL. "Craig Patrick admits that Jagr told the top four teams drafting in 90 he wouldn't come to NHL. Told Pens he wanted to play with Mario."
The Panthers are not up 3-0 in this series, and don't beat Boston or Toronto, without Bobrovsky. Tkachuck is playing great and was a terrific get, but anyone who thinks that this Florida team is being carried by Tkachuck and not Bobrovsky is super delusional.

Yeah.
Half of what Im trying to point out is the board just blindlessly defends management some times. Up until 3 years ago, people were still defending the Juolevi pick when it's glaringly obvious we dropped the ball on this one.
“Up until 3 years ago”. Dude. That was 3 years ago.

Tkachuck is playing really well, but the cats would not be where they are without Bob. He has been out of his mind.

Sportsnet has a Nylander and Lijegren to Vancouver proposal as well.
Vancouver Canucks get: William Nylander, Timothy Liljegren
Toronto Maple Leafs get: J.T. Miller
Chicago Blackhawks get: Matt Murray, 2023 Canucks 4th, 2024 Leafs 4th -

Yeaaaah, the amount of Leafs media transplants in BC doesn't really help, or the number of Leafs fan transplants. I know Canucks fanbase can be obnoxious, I've been around CDC and other media bits long enough to have seen a lot of it, but the Leafs are at another level. I probably wouldn't hate the Leafs so much if they hadn't been shoved in my face so much over the course of my having been a hockey fan, I think that goes for a lot of people. They aren't, and never will be, Canada's team. That's team Canada, that's the only team I'll recognize as Canada's team, Canada is a free for all for the most part otherwise.
Edmonton and Toronto are more natural rivalries, I know people who root for both of em, we get along. All those first overall picks though, and McDavid (understandably) getting the Crosby treatment and constantly being shoved in our faces, it got old quick. I didn't used to understand how eastern fanbases were so tired of Crosby and Ovechkin but I get it now. I take particular delight in seeing Edmonton fail, but like you've said that's largely a mutual thing based on decades of rivalry.
I suppose Calgary has the Iginla factor too, man did I ever love Iginla. Dude was like the perfect hockey player. I wish we'd been able to see him with the twins, they would have torn it up.
Iginla was picked at 11. Just sayin. You are correct he is the perfect hockey player.

Interesting find. That's definitely a penalty, but it's not at the center of the play. The coach's challenge incorporated missed stoppages a couple years ago because Erik Karlsson scored off a hand pass in the playoffs. The whole play developed around the hand pass so that's why the league had to change the rules. Imagine if Gudas took out a defenceman by blindsiding him in a blatant interference penalty, like a basketball screen. It would've raised more heads and caused greater controversy.
I wonder what people here think - do you believe the coach's challenge should include blatant missed penalty calls?
I hate the Leafs. That is a penalty, and if you are allowing reviews of any kind that should be reviewable. Gudas getting away with it is pretty classic. Siiiiick cheat.

How can they make that call? Remember the super obvious high stick going into OT v TB??? Somehow that is let it go but OReilley of the leafs gets a call after play stops with no call??? I have never seen that.

If you say so....
Also, I'm not surprised that there would be plenty of Leafs fans, seeing as a lot of them are from Ontario, but I disagree that they let their fandom get in the way of their neutrality...The fact is, they work for a Canadian media outlet and Toronto is the biggest city in Canada....
I gotta ask- are you from Ontario?

Willfully blind to what? That the coach of the Leafs called them Canada's team 8 years ago and Steve Dangle has a podcast?
How do the two of them equal the fanbase? As I have pointed out repeatedly, it's been 2 decades since they've won a single playoff round. They have nothing to be "entitled" about.
As far as I can tell, people hate them because they're jealous of all the media attention they get....sorry, but I just don't GAF and that doesn't somehow make me less of a Canuck fan.
That’s the whole point. They have nothing to be entitled about, but they act like a bunch of entitled jerks anyway. I have met multiple Leaf fans in Vancouver who have called them “Canada’s Team”. It boggles the mind. And it is not that the media gives them more attention, it is that many members of the “national” media are clearly Leaf fans, when professionally they should be neutral. They cram pro- leaf coverage down the nation’s throat when they should be representing us all. Admittedly, since they have moved away from the CBC this is corporate and I suppose a way to make money.
I don’t know who Steve Dangle is. I never implied you were less of a Canucks fan, just not in tune to the leaf blowers in the media. -
I cannot overemphasize my disdain for Mike Babcock and the fan base he represents with his “Canada’s Team” comment. This is a coach who was blessed to actually WIN with Canada’s Team- a Gold Medal on Canadian soil in 2010. Then he refers to the Toronto Maple Leafs as “Canada’s Team”?? And @RUPERTKBD says he doesn’t see anything “entitled” coming from that fan base? Willfully blind maybe? The national media is in the same camp as Babcock, TO homers who troll the rest of the country gleefully despite the fact that the franchise has been obviously woefully inept for more than 50 years. Canada’s team is comprised of proud Canadians playing for all of us. The Leafs suck.

Sorry....that's "entitled"?
Hey @RUPERTKBD I get that you are the voice of reason. Do you remember when Babcock was hired as coach and called the Leafs “Canada’s Team”? If you are ok with that, well, you do you. As a Canucks fan and citizen of Vancouver that makes me barf in my mouth. Maybe you think the Leafs are “Canada’s team”?

Makar thought the puck was going to come down in the corner. Or so he says. Remember when he called off a penalty against him? Probably bought him some credibility as a player who is not dirty.

In those highlights Höglander is wearing his OG #36, a number with the incredible Hansen heritage. Did he ditch 21, or is this just an Abby thing? I hope he has gone back!

This is a really great site for Canucks discussion. I think higgyfan is suggesting there may be an OEL thread for discussing OEL, why not keep the Johansson thread for discussing Johansson. I personally agree.

They got Schenn as muscle for the playoffs. They don’t care what he does now.

I must have missed the part where Demko plus Miller brings you Bedard. Not happening. You might get Draisaitl for that, but not Bedard.

You don't often strike gold in a later round, but it has been known to happen. We got Bieksa in the 5th round! Here are some others- https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/the-top-25-late-round-nhl-draft-steals-of-the-past-25-years
