I think the Jets won this trade. Vilardi alone might be better than PLD this coming year.
I like the deal for the Jets and if those guys hit for them and become better than PLD does with LA that should make ALL Canucks fans happy considering LA is in our division!
-
Is the return better for PLD vs what Vancouver got for Horvat due to PLD being a few years younger than Bo?
-
Call me an insider....I called this deal, not a single poster quotes me to aknowledge it though haha, so much from, must be on too many ignore lists for speaking my mind

Considering the injury, I can see them opting to not qualify him and then signing him anyway to something like 1 yr, 1.5 million.
I would do something along these lines:
Not quailify Bear, but re sign him to a 2yr 3m deal 1.5m cap hit. We get him for a 2nd year at a fairly low cap hit and could play with Hughes or be the guy leading the 3rd pairing. If Bear does not come back well from the injury he can be mostly buried in the AHL at worst if we cant trade him or a team does not claim him on waivers if it came to that.
I would rather try keep Bear for a short 2 yr deal rather than go sign Dumba for example who will cost more both in term and cap hit.

Maybe Boston is gonna send Hall and Reilly to Chicago along with Lysell and something else for futures so Boston can extend Bertuzzi. Boston may also look to move Ullmark to say LA to clear another 5m. Maybe get Bergeron and Krejci to sign similar deals with future cap implications to have a lower cap hit for next year?

The NHL’s favourite teams always seem to get gifts like this…
Watch Johansen be a point a game player next season making 4 mil.
Amazing what a competent GM can do! This was a no brainer trade to make, we should have been all over this! Move JT for a nice return, send Garland to Winnipeg as they will lose a few guys and its a hard place to attract players for say Dillon?
-
GM Alvin sleeping at the wheel, man that was a no brainer to take a risk on Johansen for 2 yrs as a right shot C at 4m imo. Local kid too!
Maybe Nashville trades with us for Miller now haha...only 6 more days we can say that!

Vancouver sends to Winnipeg:
Garland 4.95m
Rathbone ELC
for
Niederreiter 4m
L. Stanley RFA
Canucks could then trade Niederieter at the TDL for a pick or maybe if he gels well we retain him and move Beauvillier?

I don't know what value Beauvillier has (probably a little), but I know that Edmunson has negative value at this point. We shouldn't be the ones paying to take on such a risk.
thanks for your input

Montreal has too many wingers as it is. Beaulivier at $4.15m doesn’t offer any value for Montreal. They can plug in one of their promising youngsters on an ELC and likely get the same production. Rathbone wouldn’t crack Montreals top 8 D prospects
True but Drouin is gone and Hoffman is up at the end of the year and could be moved if they traded for Beau or when he gets dealt at the TDL. Does Montreal have many French Canadians on their NHL roster??? I know the GM and President are NOT French so that likely wouldn't be a thing for them but might go over well for the fans and maybe Beau would extend with them for a fair contract?

They were terrible, he had better numbers the year they went to the Cup finals. It is a risk but short term as we can have a wait and see approach VS signing a UFA july 1 for more $ and term

As the title says....
Canucks trade Beauvillier and Rathbone to Montreal for Edmundson.
Pair Edmundson with Hronek if they mesh they both get new contracts to stay together. Allows the Canucks to use more of this cap space to sign a RHD to play with Hughes like a Scott Mayfield/Dumba/Gudas/Schenn OR more $ for a true #3C NOT Barbashev!

I'd imagine we're looking to add another top 4, even with a potential Soucy signing. Whether that's a trade for a guy like Carlo, Zadorov or Pesce, signing Graves or Mayfield etc, etc
Hughes, UFA/trade
Soucy, Hronek
Mayfield was underpaid for a long time and will want to try and cash in on a long term deal. I am curious if he is wanting something similar to what Colorado gave Josh Manson to extend 4 yr at 4.5m with a NTC
I would love to see us somehow get Mayfiled and Soucey for the D. Then trade Beauvillier for a draft pick or prospect(C/RHD) to free just over another 4m so we can get a #3C. Compher likely gets overpaid and he is a right shot C. Maybe Alvin goes to an ex Penguin and signs Blueger and tries him and runs a 3a line with Blueger and 3b with Aman. Equal playing minutes for both C with PK time.
Then we could ice:
Mikheyev Pettersson Kuzmenko
Hoglander Miller Boeser
Podkolzin Blueger Garland
Di Gusieppe/Pearson Aman Joshua
Hughes Mayfield
Soucey Hronek
Wolanin Juulsen/Johansson/Burroughs/Bear(mid season return/if signed to new contract)
Rathbone- traded at draft or claimed off waivers in fall
Demko
Martin/Delia
Silovs AHL #1G

There's a name I haven't seened mentioned in a while and I agree that I'm not completely sold on Soucy, especially at UFA prices.
Rumours were we were interested in MP but couldn't swing a deal. Maybe this is where our many wingers can be dealt for a dman.
This makes sense and if they think Ty Smith is ready for NHL minutes they may move him for Boeser/Beauvillier/Garland/Miller/Myers/anyone almost

Really hope we just wait and see who falls to us for very good value.... doubt this will happen.
That would be nice, but with a weak FA class to begin with I expect teams fighting over players as per usual and overpaying with term, $$$$ and trade protection etc
-
For those that follow prospects closely, what are the thoughts on Brayden Yager? 6ft right shot Center from Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL

For a team that struggled to kill penalties, do they really want to add a player that is going to cause them to spend more time on the PK? Soucy is an elite penalty taker. He's not that young either (29 in July). He's an option but some of these numbers being thrown around are a bit rich.
Soucy will come cheaper in term and cap hit compared to Graves, so I rather go with the cheaper option as long as the term and cap hit are reasonable. We could go the trade route to get a D also, maybe someone like Edmundson out of Montreal in a deal around Beauvillier??
-
Kassian for a cheap 4th line gritty winger to play under tocchet?!? It had to be said.........

Good target depending on term and price of course. Will be cheaper to sign than Graves

i still like signing ufa barbashev as our 2c and then trading miller for peeke and 3c roslovic. center position solved and hughes partner solved.
My only issue with signing Barbashev is he is ppor at faceoffs, not a recipe for success imo. If we didn't go get Mikheyev last year I would be happy to try get Barbashev, think he is a better all around player and fit for our team over Mikheyev...but we have him already so adding another long term winger is a poor use of the new cap space imo.
I think Graves might be overpaid, I am curious about Carson Soucy...played in Seatlle, I don't know how much or well he played but he has size and is a pain to play against...could he be a nice guy to pair with Hronek on the 2nd pairing?? Would think he would cost less $ and term wise vs Graves

I don't think Byram is the type of D they need. They already have Hughes and Hronek, two very good mobile D, and also Rathbone and Hirose.
Hard to say but do we really think Rathbone is a legit regular NHL D man?? He has had 3 NHL coaches who have been very reluctant to use him, I was hoping Rathbone could make it in the NHL, even as a Yannick Weber type because he possessive a good point shot that could help a 2nd PP unit.
As for Hirose, great story but such a small sample size hard to cement him into the top 6 long term so far...he was promising so fingers crossed!
Don't see the trade for Byram happening, could see them try to move Girard to try and free up some cap to get a more long term #2C all while keeping Byram. Also, Toews is a UFA soon, is Colorado paying Toews into his late 30s at a high cap hit? Would be wiser to lock Byram up long term and move out Toews if he wants too much as his new deal may not age well. Great player at his current cap hit

Soucy for me anyways. Pesce sure would be nice. Hanafin doesn't seem likely at all given it's CAL. Don't have much trade history with either Alberta team. Suppose that could change.
Given the team decided to buyout OEL, rather than spend assets to dump useful players, hope that is a sign they will be awfully smart about trading futures.
What kind of contract do you think Soucy would be after as a pending UFA? I wouldn't mind him depending on the term and cap hit, any idea if he is used in a PK role?

[Rumour] Cal Foote 24 -RD - 6'5 - 220 Might be Unqualified ? Nashville

He could still carve out a nice career, we came to love a guy very similar to Foote in Luke Schenn. Former high pick, traded away then ended up in the AHL then re invented his game and is still contributing well in a depth role into his mid 30s now. So, maybe Cal Foote can turn it around with his dad as coach and Gonchar around part time similarily to how Schenn was about to turn his career from looking over to going on to win 2 Stanley Cups and be a great depth D for any NHL club to have
