  1. so the problem is that i live far away.. you want to turn this into "affordable living downtown" and option GET REAL!!!!! where i live now, digital tv, internet, heating, hot water (terasen), rent, parking for 2 vehicles.. total cost $900 equate that to downtown. 1200 for rent, 300 for utilities, 150 for 2 parking stalls 1650? or 900? hmmm that's a toughy.... the west coast express is ok, if you didn't have to stay late at work. it runs west bound until 10am and runs east bound until 6.... otherwise HAVE FUN TAKING 3 CONNECTING BUSES HOME!!!! i usually end up having someone drive from poco to vancouver to pick me up (much faster than taking the bus home)
  2. again, total disregard for the person like me who has no viable option but to drive. let's do a cash grab, from the drivers, and give it to the bus riders... you want to give transit more use... give a free 2 zone pass to every registered car owner...... not the drivers, the owners of the vehicles.... make transit at least a reasonable option, some people will need to pay the 3 zone upgrade (like myself) and less traffic congestion.
  3. All of you yuppy anti-car blah blah hippies get your facts together before you start telling me "you better take transit then if you don't want to pay the costs" I live in Po-Co and work down town. My options.... a-take hwy 1 b-take hwy 7 c-take west coast express d-take bus to CTC station, transfer to lougheed take skytrain.. let's add the expenses.... fuel cost parking fees time a - $5/day 11/day 0 2 hours (1 hour each way) b - $5/day 11/day 0 2 hours (1 hour each way) c - $1/day 4/day 12.50/day 3 hours (1.5 hours each way - specific train times) d - $0/day 0/day 4.53/day 4 hours (2 hours each way - specific train/bus times) now... a and b (driving) costs 16 per day and I waste 2 hours of my day commuting. c - costs me 17.50 per day and takes 30 min longer d - saves me 12 dollars per day, but takes twice as long... so what is your time worth to you.... ? i'm no high level executive but making $25/hour is where i see my time as being valued. if i spent 4 hours in traffic that $100 that me or my company miss in earned business because i'm not working. maybe for you $8 burger flippers you can waste away on the 97 b-line, you time isn't worth it.... mine is. MY POINT, MAKE TRANSIT A VIABLE OPTION AND I WILL USE IT... YOU CONTINUE TO PUNISH DRIVERS WITH RIDICULOUS TOLLS, FEES, TAXES, SURCHARGES, PREMIUMS AND TAKE AWAY ROADS AND GIVE THEM TO HIPPY BIKE RIDERS. GIVE ME AN OPTION BETTER THAN DRIVING AND I'LL USE IT. UNTIL THEN, I'LL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO GET IN MY OVERPRICED CAR, FILL IT WITH TAX AND LEVIED FUEL, BURN THAT FUEL OVER A GRIDLOCKED HWY, PAY MY OUTRAGEOUS PARKING FEE, AND BURN THAT FUEL ALL THE WAY HOME. UNLESS YOU WANT TO GIVE ME $50/day NOT TO DRIVE...........

  14. I think the discussion is now more, what is Burrows worth? A bag or pucks? no.... prospect?.. maybe.... NHL'r? Who?
  15. It's not a matter of how he fights, it's THAT he fights. He may lose, but if he loses to Iginla he takes Iginla out of the game. He may not be in the top percentile in any one catagory.... ie fastest skater, best puck handler. but his overall skills are better than those who are vying for a spot. R1: Burrows vs. Pettinger Burrow wins, less speed but more grit and willingness to go to the dirty areas R2: Burrows vs. Rypien This one is close, I think they are virtually the same player, and experience leans in Burrows' favour. However Rypien is a much better fighter. It's boils down to: how many fighters do you really need on this team? Also, Burrows has already proven himself in his own zone. Rypien kills penalties in Manitoba but can he do it at the NHL level? R3: Burrows vs. Brown Again very close, Brown is by far a much smoother skater, is much tougher, and so far has shown more offensive talent. I'd say that this is a coin-toss but Burrows and Kesler have chemistry, that is also a factor. In the end my depth chart for an agitator would be, Burrows, Brown, Rypien....... Let him play out the season and earn his raise, if he becomes more expensive, then he's expendable.... At his current price, keep him... Brown is waiting in the wings and would easily slot in, if Burrows goes to Pittsburgh (a la Ruutu, a la Cooke) We seem to just cycle agitators anyways. Get as much out of them at basement prices and let them go.
  16. The fact that he was picked indicates that he is one of, if not the best, at what he does. Yes there are players like Ruutu, Avery, Tucker that play a similar role however who is overall the most beneficial to their team? Ruutu, 3 times the salary for the same player (Don't get me wrong I love Ruutu but expensive for what he does) He has more offesive talent (as seen in the shoot-out) but is more of a liability for minor penalties. Avery, is innovative in trying to invent new ways to push the envelope of agitating however his history of antics leaves a team with too many question marks on whether he will help or hinder his team. Tucker, Avery minus the off ice stuff, on the decline and his point totals in Toronto seem to be an aboration as he's vanished off the face of the earth. Again, a risk to take him because his salary is too much for what he "potentially" could do. Why not stick with what you have? You know what you're going to get, 30 points 10-15 goals, 100+ pims and at fair market value. Although the trend of toughness is further on the rise, teams still need playmaking ability at a reasonable price. So would you rather have: Burrows and 10 mil to spend on Free-Agents / Trade (room to add 1st line forward ie. Gaborik at 9mil) or Avery and 6.6 mil to spend (room to add Jeff Finger)

  18. Ok first post, but here goes... I'm going to have to agree with everyone elseand say that Burrows is an asset to this team. Not only is he good at what he does (forecheck and agitate) but he does show signs of offensive flair. He loses the puck a lot and seems to be off balance because of the style he plays. He'll look to make the play before thinking about what his body is about to be put through. Did he not make Pierre Maguire's All-Monster Team 2007? He will fight, contrary to what you say... didn't he fight Boulerice after he Tomahawked kesler in the head? He was a liability when he'd fight at stupid times and get called for instigating or roughing randomly but has since refined his game and now understands when and where to start a bru-haha. Burrows has worked his way up from the ECHL, and hasn't stopped doing whatever the coaches tell him to do. That's the kind of teammate I'd want on my team.
