  1. Actually even if we didn't make the Ballard trade, we would have lost Grabner on waivers either way.

If he had a poor training camp with Vancouver, yes.

    All speculation.

I've heard he wasn't too thrilled about being traded to Florida, hence the poor training camp.

Maybe in Vancouver he would of played hard. Just came off 20 games in the NHL, registering 11 points, including a hat-trick. Ready to breakout as a rookie. I don't know, just speculation.

Hell, if Gillis is as "smart" as people think he is, he would of kept on the 4th line regardless of his camp.

  2. Its not like Raymond was a playoff hero anyways, Santorelli in some sense maybe an improvement, or atleast a wash considering he brings some different elements to the table.

I get our offense has dried up, but I don't think seperating the Sedins is gunna add more scoring as whole, I think it would just maybe balance it out more.

What we could do, that might work better, is keep the the Twins together, then move Burrows (who is our next best winger) down with Kesler, they are always a good duo, then put either Hansen or Kassian with the Twins. Since the Twins can produce well with either, that might add a bit more scoring from Kesler's line, then you have your choice of Booth, Higgins, Santorelli or Hansen/Kassian to put on the other wing.

There is some chemistry, but I don't buy it - at-least in the offensive end with Kes and Burr. Kesler needs big time help, someone with high end offensive skills. That guy is Daniel Sedin.

Burrows has tons of heart/leadership/clutch/yadadada but on a skill based level, I think Higgins, Hansen and Booth are all close at individual skill-sets.

  3. This is where you lost me.

    I got your point, but there's a difference between Neal/Crosby & Daniel/Henrik.

The Sedins have chemistry that has really never been seen before in our game. Its a unique situation, that can't really be compared to anyone else in the league IMO.

Yes, but then what do you when your secondary scoring has done this in the playoffs in the last 2 yrs:

    Kesler: 5pts in 9gp

    Burrows: 4pts in 9gp

    Raymond: 3pts in 9gp

    Booth: 1pt in 5gp

    Hansen: 1pt in 9gp

    Higgins: 0pts in 9gp

Combined for 14 pts in 50gp.

    D.Sedin: 5pts in 6gp

    H.Sedin: 8pts in 9gp

    Combined 13pts in 15gp...

Raymond is now gone, and Santorelli is essentially taken his spot in the top 9. He is zero NHL playoff experience.

They need help. Daniel can help Kesler. Henrik can help those grindy wingers better then Kesler could imagine.

  4. The problem is the Sedins. They always play together. This gives you little line combos.

Put Daniel and Kesler together. Give Henrik the two hardest working players on the team on his wings.

    Burrows - Henrik - Hansen

    Daniel - Kesler - Higgins

    Booth - Santorelli - Kassian

    Sestito - Richardson - Weise

Similar to the mold of Pittsburgh. Give your best player (Sid) two weaker linemates that he can elevate, and give your weaker center (Geno) the best winger.

    Kunitz = Burrows

    Dupuis = Hansen

    Neal = Daniel

    Higgins/Kassian = Jokinen/Bennett

  5. This team feels like its going backwards.

    Kesler.

Its natural to try and look at the glass as half full, so we were all excited when Kes won the Selke and noched 41 goals and expected that this was the new normal. We would now have two great lines for years to come. But injuries as an excuse can only go so far. Its obvious now that he is an overpaid 3rd line defensive player that should only be relied on for 20 - 25 goals. Burrows is a more valuable offensive player.

I don't know what it is with Kesler and his makeup. He seems arrogantly confident, which can be a good thing, yet it rarely shows on the ice in the last few years. Reminds me of Luongo when he first came to the team. Lu backed it up in his first two seasons at least. He does NOT use his linemates very well. I don't know why he ever became a Center. He's getting Sedin type money FFS! He should be expected to shine as much every night as do the twins. All this talk of "when Kesler will finally show up". Maybe he's already here, and that 41 goal season was his one freak peak year as a lot of NHLers have before tailing off. I think everyone including media fawning all over him and excusing his production as him simply being in a funk does him a disservice, and puts undue pressure on him.

    Gillis.

He is fast becoming more known for his RE-SIGNINGS than for his acquisitions. Big deal. Most players, once settled in a new city, would rather try and come to terms with the team and stick around. And one glaringly "my contract sucks" bad re-signing that resulted in yet another rash move of us losing our best goaltender, one that we groomed for almost 10 years into a budding Vezina candidate for a rookie project. MG has made more TRADE-DOWNS than TRADE-UPS. Or simply lost them to free agency. I don't have to list them all as they've been talked about ad nauseam already and its frankly depressing to go over it again. Add to all that his "always the bridesmaid" situations...Torres, Schultz, Clowe...

And the one gem he finds like Tanev he can't even re-sign him to more than one bloody year?!! Tanev is fast becoming a premier defensive defenseman in the league. Enjoy him this year folks, we may not be able to afford him after that. He, like Schneider, are players that should be recognized early as players you do everything you can to keep.

As far as Schneider, I don't care if Lu would be steaming, MG could have kept both and had Lu fight for his starts with Cory coming into his prime. Buy out Booth (if Lu's was too rich) and use more youth instead of scrub pick-ups. And still keep trying to trade Lu for ANYTHING, or NOTHING other than ridding the team of a sucky contract even, during the year.

Gillis was God for his first years here but he has since proven he is in over his head as agent turned GM.

    Best post in this thread.

  6. I find it hard to think Lu as a top 10 goalie anymore when in his last 75 regular season games hes posted a 2.49 G.A.A and a .913 SV%.

He's 34, on the downside of his career. Perhaps he gets a motivational surge after undergoing all this drama and plays lightsout. Who knows. Statistically, he has been bad. From what I've seen, hes looked bad. Theres is a reason he lost his job to Schneider.

  7. Wow Chimera and Cammalleri have really clicked. I knew my team could do damage once I could get a 2nd line going.

Maybe I won't have to do a total rebuild, more-so retool on the fly.

    Grabner a cancer? Maybe.

Prospect pool looks great up-front with Morin, Teravainen, McNeill, Sutter, Hertl, Shalunov and Lekhonen.

  8. SJS asked for Greene, then said he had no cap space.

I pulled a Samuelsson and said, go justin faulk yourself. Vancouver offered me the same deal, I quickly accepted.

SJS sent in the trade assuming I'd accept. But as I said before, go justin faulk yourself.

  9. Only 1 offer... Grabner has been moved.

Cammalleri: Asking for a high-end prospect.

Lehtonen: Two high end prospects, one should be a goalie.

Sharp: Asking for high-end prospect + young player.

    Bouwmeester: Asking for high-end prospect

Hagelin: Asking for a mid-level prospect

Oduya: Asking for a mid-level prospect

Chimera: Asking for a mid-level prospect

Greene: Asking for a late pick.l

  10. My condolences to your friend, Connor.

Also it seems like this season is a bust for Chicago. Stanley Cup hangover? Possibly. I'm feeling a rebuild... (Yes, I traded Yak...)

Everyone is OTB except for Toews, Kane, Carter, Leddy and Keith. This includes.

    Patrick Sharp

    Jay Bouwmeester

    Kari Lehtonen

    Mike Cammalleri

    Michael Grabner

    Carl Hagelin

    Johnny Oduya

    Matt Greene

    Jason Chimera

I want young NHL ready players and high end prospects. Picks interest me slightly, but it must be top 10.
