The Brodeur Era is Over
The New Jersey Devils would like to thank Martin for his 18 tremendous seasons as a Devil, he will retire as one of the greatest goalies to ever play in the NHL. We wanted him to retire where it all began and we hoped to add a fourth ring to his finger but we couldn't get their in the end. He has a strong season last year and we felt he could be competitive for years to come but this way he gets to leave the game on his own terms. Martin will leave a lasting impact on our organisation and he will be given a front office role whenever he is ready to return.
We would also like to thank Jay Pandolfo for his 11 seasons with the organization. We were excited to bring him back last season and it is fitting to see him retire as a Devil. He was a great defensive forward for us and a big part of two of our Stanley Cup championships. He will be tough to replace next season but he has taught our young forwards how to be a true professional.
This marks an end to an era in New Jersey and its time to turn the team over to the new core. We will aim to stay competitive in the near future but we expect to take a step back next season while we wait for Allen to establish himself as our new franchise goalie. Our new core will consist of Parise, Lupul, Johansen, Enstrom, Hagelin, and Allen. Depending how this season goes we may look to provide Elias, Gomez, Rafalski, Lukowich and White the opportunity to join a contender.
