OJ was among the top rookie dmen in the AHL and was the only first rounder in the bunch, next is Lind, as a 2nd rounder, and he is starting to get it.  Players picked past the second round are longshots, at best to ever even get a game at the NHL level and the Comets have developed 3 of those long shots into players who have a pretty solid chance at becoming NHL players, all of whom have been on the big club for the past month or so.  I'd say that sounds like success to me.

The biggest problem is that you, and others, are expecting to development to happen in a year, when it really takes much, much longer.  The fact that the Canucks have 4 developing homegrown prospects on the big club right now should quell any (phantom) issues people have with Cull and the Comets.

But why are you surprised? This is canucks forums. People here think that if the players are in the canucks organization they are special and should be NHL ready a year after draft. Utica is doing fine. That's why I was so happy to hear from Utica fans about Dahlen. I would take their opinion over most people here any day due to not being biased towards the canucks organization.

Based on the majority of prospects don’t make it.

Based on undersized defensive style players have a harder time.

Based on the large majority of 3rd rounders don’t make it.

He has a chance and I’m rooting for him, but I refuse to look at prospects through the same homer glasses so many here choose to look through.

I agree with the fact that only approximately 10 percent of 3rd rounders make to the NHL (at any capacity).

22 points in 23 games doesn't really scream defensive player. The kid got skills, it's not like he plays 3rd line shut down role. There are enough players in the NHL that have smaller size but insane work rate.

I don't think that hoping a player, the team you cheer for drafted, makes the NHL is "looking thought Homer glasses.

He is having a great year! Let the fans enjoy it. No one is calling him the next Gretzky.

Jake guentzel,Brett Pesce, Brayden point, Colton Parayko, Jimmy Vesey were all 3rd round picks. All I'm saying is don't write the kid off.

Madden will have a hard time making the league.

Marner is a first line superstar about to get a 10 million dollar deal.

    Get freaking real man.   Hahahahahahahaha

    Based on what observation exactly?

Just extend the deal with Utica already.

It makes zero sense to have the affiliate team out west. Why make the kids suffer through long flights and road trips when they should be focused on improving?

98% of the team’s travel is for games as opposed to call ups . Let’s minimize the travel.

Been a big fan of the comets as an affiliate. Building sells out, supportive community, much easier travel schedule. I am all for the extension. If management actually thinks that more people will go watch the comets in Abbotsford they are wrong. There is way too much entertainment (sports wise) around Vancouver. Also, no one will travel to Abbotsford to watch an AHL game.

Well, Boeser certainly proved himself, didn't he?

He was not "gifted" minutes. He earned them. It's not like his points were stolen from a dominant line.

Boeser also stated in an interview that the extra year he went to collage was a huge help to him to mature physically. I think Hughes signs after NCAA season Is over. Tons of time to mature physically, work out, and play in Vancouver for the US junior team.

It also works out better for Vancouver. Give OJ a chance that he deserves as well as move pieces by trade deadline.

    It's literally a win win.

Heard from Platt this morning that he heard the Canucks are likely to sign Hughes this week! If true, that's great news for the fans! If he's not ready just yet for the NHL, he can always develop in Utica...  gotta be more competitive than college?

Pratt? I wouldn't trust a word he says. Also, I rather him have one more year in collage (schedule and more time to workout and grow) than go to Utica.

Kid has speed and dangles, and goes to the net.  Not afraid to shoot it and can make plays, too.  Looks like we got another good one, looking forward to see how he develops the next couple years as he puts on mass, gets stronger, and plays against men.

As long as he has determination to succeed he will be an NHL player. He's style of play is all we can ask for.

I think Erickson is going to end up squeezing I guy like Dahlen out.  We need to bite the bullet on him to get out from under his constricting, stifling, bloated contract.

Should just call Toronto or Chicago and get advise on how to get rid of the contract without buying it out.

Painful to agree with Botch, but I can't really argue with this, except for the part where he feels compelled to put down Beagle, who I think will be a useful addition to the team, helping to provide a better/safer environment for the smaller, more skilled players like QH and EP.

Botch is missing a few brain cells. How can you compare Hughes and Beagle? Can someone explain this to me? Hughes just got drafted and plays D where Beagle is a Centre and an NHL veteran. Hughes and Beagle can help the Canucks improve in completely different aspects of the game. Vancouver media disappoints me even when I have 0 expectations from them to contribute anything knowledgeable.

Love it! Love the dedication! Hopefully, he can soon move in with one of our roster players to stay close to Van and workout here.

Blake Price quoted a source saying it's unlikely Tryamkin will return unlike earlier reports so take that with a speck of pepper.

Blake Price? Yeah, he is one of the reasons I don't listen to TSN 1040 anymore.

The negativity from this guy is unreal!!
