  1. If I remember correctly there was a contest to design the new logo and the one that was chosen was created by a First Nations artist. That’s just from my memory though it could be off. Either way, most of the indigenous people I’ve every had conversations with welcome the logo as a representation of our area and their culture. It’s never been a stolen thing and the Canucks have seemed to have done a real good job in including people of all races and Cree into the Canucks family. Remember Gino is one of our most brought out former players and he’s worn headdresses and whatever he’s chosen because he feels comfortable with this franchise and this fan base.

where did the locker room cancer come from. i’ll need proof of that. a written reply from players and coaches. from everything i’ve heard, he is well liked by players and coaches. he is just unliked by some fans who went let it go. the whole situation will work itself out. he’ll be here, there or somewhere. give it a rest.

I totally agree. The whole quote was taken way out of context. From all accounts he’s good in the room and plays for his teammates. It’s apparent watching him that he doesn’t have that extra step that you need in Green’s system but he’s rarely out of position. Predictable? Yes. Dependable Yes. A play driver, absolutely not. People need to get off judging him off his salary, for what it’s worth, we can fit him under the cap and he’ll be a dependable defensive winger who plays really good positionally on the PK. If we taper expectations to 10-15 goals and good defensive play, I hope he can win some fans back. The best case scenario is we move him and his contract but if that’s not able to happen, we as fans should support him and hope he can pot a couple big goals throughout the season to make a difference in tight games. This whole offseason charade hopefully lights a fire under him and we see the best Ericsson.

  3. One thing from your post (thanks for all the work you put into it) is moving Bo to second PP unit. We’ve never had a second unit that could be a real threat for quite some time. It’s usually due to them coming on after a clear out and having to start from their own end and gain entry. If we have Bo & Quinn spearheading the second unit it could substantially help in that regard. We’ve seen Bo gain the zone all on his own a few times but with a drop off to Quinn being a real threat it could solve a lot of our second unit problems. This should be our thinking going into the season. With having two capable PP units, it will help our success rate and lead to that extra goal that we need to either finish off games or get that all important tying goal. We have a glut of forwards who are capable of playing in the PP now. We need to spread it out. First Unit can be Edler with #40 & #6 as one timer options, plug in some net front presence, for digging and retrieving pucks and the second unit can do more of a quick gain entry and go for an early scoring chance. All the while having Bo be on the ice when the returning opponent returns to the ice, if we don’t score before that happens. This opinion is in the same line of your thinking when it comes to spreading out the talent we now have. Cheers.

  4. For those of you blasting his wife, it’s really unfair. We don’t know the full aspects. His wife’s happiness I’m sure had something to do with it but if I remember correctly, he wanted to be closer to his Grandparents & family. Can you blame the guy?

Some Russians tend to be Uber religious and very family orientated. I speculate that that’s the case. He went back home for family, it was a choice him and his new wife made together. As much as I wanted to see him continue to develop on the Canucks. I’m proud that he made a decision not purely made by chasing money & fame in N.A. Because that usually leads to unhappiness.

He still could come back a more more mature and happier person, let’s be patient and unselfish with him.

Yep, good memory. He played 3 games in the World Juniors and 5 games in the Olympics that year.

Seems a little less impressive now, although Switzerland isn't exactly booming with NHL talent. To do it for Sweden or Finland would be a little more impressive.

First off, how about that Petterson!

I believe he will be a very special player for the Canucks as soon as next season. He’s far exceeding my expectations and he’s looking like he’ll quite possibly get a chance to showcase his skill in the Olympics & World Championships this up coming year.

back to the topic at hand haha

I was a Giants season ticket holder in 2010 and was lucky enough to attend Canada versus Switzerland in the 2010 Olympics.

I remember thinking how crazy it was that this young defensmen, whom I’d be following (armchair scouting) was one week playing against WHL players in Langley (against the Giants as they played a handful of games out of the Pacific Coliseum due to The Olympics) then a couple weeks later, was up against quite possible the best team ever assembled. I mean, even sheltered as a bottom pairing young defensman, he was going up against a third & fourth line of the best players playing the game at that time.

Here's a question for the hockey minds of CDC. Who was the last player to play in both the World Juniors and the Olympics in the same year?

And what are the chances both Juolevi and Pettersson accomplish that?

You could even throw in World championships into the mix if they accomplish the first two. :o

I believe Sbisa did it, could very well be mistaken, as I’m going in sheer memory. I believe he played Junior hockey, got a emergency call up to the Flyers and played against the Worlds best that year (2010) in the Olympics.

Not sure of his world junior status as the Swiss team might have not qualified that year. That would be my best guess..

  7. For some reason I feel that a line with Eriksson & Boeser would excel. My thinking is, with Brocks shot, the goalies are going to have trouble with it even if they stop it, Loui can bury the garbage, which is his bread and butter.

Eriksson plays an excellent underrated defensive game which will allow Brock to cheap a bit going for steals or being in a good scoring position if a teammate causes a turnover.

#6 is going to compliment a lot of lines.

We used to jig Coho salmon, way up in the Chehalis river(Harrison region). Memories from the 80's. Climb down there with ropes..beautiful, but dangerous.

You'd have a backpack full of fish in under an hour. Bloody Hell to climb outa' that crevasse with a delicious load of sushi on my back! Paradise found.

I've been to that spot, beautiful! Don't worry I won't tell anyone where it is...

I think we can just brush this off from a fan perspective, if he starts trending in a wrong direction then we can get worried. This is the problem nowadays with instant information, years ago we would have never heard of this violation that happened halfway around the world. He's 20 years old and thinks like a 20 year old. That's what I chalk it up to.

  9. If and when you get into the end zone
Act like you've been there a thousand times before

    -Tragically Hip

I'm personally all for the cool calm celebration, unless it's a big goal at the crucial point in the game. You have to remember the way our season was going, most of the time our goals were scored trailing in the game.

  10. One thing of note, is that when it comes time to play for his country he should have a good chance at cracking the Finnish blueline thus helping to streamline his development and play in big games at a young age. The Fins are looking for their new Lumme for international play.

I'm excited to watch his ongoing improvement in the coming years. I have no doubt that he will be one of the most valuable players for us in the near future.

  11. So...LA changes coaches and goes on to win the Stanley Cup. New York , gets Vancouver's ex-coach and after a bit of a slow start, are doing very well. Canucks get a new coach and they fold like a cheap tent. They've already shown what they are made of and what the problem was and it wasn't AV and it wasn't the system.....it's the core. Gillis is in denial and needs to justify a number of poor re-singings of has-been players that should have been used to bring in the youth and energy he has spoken of.

We're all a little frustrated but you talk as in Gillis should've brought in Youth but we have very little in the cupboard to bring in.

Years of poor drafting and traded second & third rounders has left this team with few options. It's not like an 18 year old Horvat would change this situation.

Things will turn in time and Gillis needs time to restock the cupboards and hopefully retool the future of this team. All the resignings he's made have been no brainers and the NTC were earned and would've been handed out by any other GM looking for the numbers to fit.

  12. One other take on this is that he said he's done with "Downtown" Vancouver.

Which is fair, a lot of Vancouverites are also done with partying in the Downtown core. It's the bridge & tunnel crowd trying to act tuff. Not trying to paint all of the suburb crowd that frequent Granville St with the same brush but there's a certain element there that is just looking for trouble.

Maybe he's using this as the straw that broke the camels back and maturing out of that perticular bar scene.

As you and I know, quotes written by the media nowadays seem to always get taken out of context, mostly on purpose to incite.

  13. If I were to go to Granville St. after a tuff day at work to "Blow of some steam" this could possibly happen to me. What a silly choice of location, what's wrong with him?

This is coming from a huge fan of him, I was a Giants season ticket holder for all his years in major junior.

He hails from East Van, maybe support your local community instead of the the garbage ridden "Entertainment District" of Downtown Granville.

    So easily avoidable by him.

  14. I see a lot of you guys still including Hammer. In my personal opinion I really don't think he's done enough to be on the team.

His defensive play has been a tad off this year compared to the high bar he's set for himself. He's also pretty far down the list as far as offensive output.

Still hoping he makes it. Just don't see it, was hoping for a better start to the season for him.

  15. I agree. It has been 5, 6 games now, the "new team" excuse is over. He proves so far that he is a one year wonder....lucky him..hit the jack pot.

Laughable. So, extremely short camp, add a new team and he only gets 6 games to impress you?

Well I guess if that crossbar would've gone in the other night, you'd be singing his praises.

Calm down, he's played decent. The whole team has played poorly. This happens EVERY year it seems. Bad start and almost every player gets ripped on by our "loyal" fanbase. Some of your types just don't have the makeup to be well-even keeled hockey fans.

Watching the way he gets the puck off, I'm sure he'll score soon.
