  1. I really like this.

He played for Green in junior and attributed a lot of his success there to the confidence and support that he got from his coaches there. I think he will fit in with Green and WD both.

Ton of upside, 2011 11th overall pick. Much better chance of success than ~50th overall pick.

  2. No.

He's credited with surgically dismantling this team from championship-calibre to fringe-playoff team in 3 seasons - letting key UFAs leave (Torres, Ehrhoff, Salo, etc), losing both all-star calibre goaltenders (Luongo, Schneider) and almost trading away Kesler (now that Linden is at helm, we'll likely keep Kesler). The goal was to win now while re-tooling with young players to remain competitive like Detroit - Gillis failed. That's why he's gone.

While Gillis's draft picks (Horvat - by trading Schneider, Shinkaruk fell to our lap, Gaunce and Jensen were solid picks, late-round defensemen were good also) may have impact years from now, he did it at the cost of the present - so I would not give him credit when these guys start to play key roles on our team.

I think he will be (rightfully) blamed for the Canucks missing the playoffs this year, which seems to be what the majority of your post deals with. On the other hand, I think he should be given credit for where the Canucks will be in a couple of years. Tanev, Lack, Corrado, Cassels, Eriksson, Jensen, Gaunce, Schroeder, Kassian, etc. If they play big parts in the next generation of Canuck success... I don't see why he wouldn't get credit.

  3. Garrison's (+/-) vs Current Playoff Teams:

2013/2014 to date, reverse order. Taken from the Canucks' website.

    TBL -1

So first off, the Canucks have only played 30 games (of 76) vs teams that are currently in a playoff position. :bigblush:

Garrison is -13 in these 30 games. In games that mean the most, and are allegedly used to show the best just where you and your team stand in this league, he is -13.

Some say the (+/-) stat is useless. But its not. Especially when its spread out over a whole season. It is rating of how you play 5 on 5, which is the bulk of every game. Some say, a guy just steps onto the ice, on a bad change, and get a (-) and its not fair. What about stepping onto the ice and your team scoring. Is this fair? It all evens out in the end when using a large sample size.

If you are going to use plus/minus, at least use +/-rel. What is the Canuck's overall 5 on 5 goal differential against playoff teams? What is Garrison's compared to that?

That will give you a more accurate picture.

  4. Fine. Imagine what your reaction would be if your team traded for a player you have absolutely zero respect for.

I don't lost all respect for a 19 year old doing everything he can to help his country win a gold.

If you thought you could help Canada win a gold medal by diving and you were on the WJC team... Many would do the same.

If he continues to do the same thing with the Canucks, sure. I choose to give him a chance though.

  5. No nothing's changed. Still to weak to play in the NHL, let lone AHL. Definitely not worth making a 2nd round selection on, but the Canucks were talking about taking him with their 1st round selection. Good Lord. Does anyone really believe this garbage drafting will ever improve? We as fans should stand up and DEMAND better drafting.

Or you could "wake up" and realize that the Canucks are entertainment.

  6. I was hoping to wait until I had more space but I might have to pick this guy up in my (20 player. 30 prospect per team) hockey pool soon.

    What a season so far.

  7. I don't see where this "On of Canada's best" is coming from. When he has had space he has made some pretty great plays, but it's pretty obvious that he is being hampered by injury.

    Canada's best?

Droun, Dumba, Fucale and Ekblad would be my choices, no particular order. Ekblad is a beast.

  8. you have LaBate listed as LeBate.... and I don't really do fantasy hockey, so I couldn't comment on a fantasy based ranking, but that's not how I'd rank our prospects in terms of current performance/future likelihood to make the NHL, but opinions are like a-holes, everyone's got one, and they all stink. :bigblush:

    Well that's embarrassing..

I'll fix that right away, I didn't write his profile but I should have noticed.

What would your top 10 be then? Based on quickness to production, offensive upside and certainty. 100% sure third liners don't make it, unless they get massive hit totals (Archibald).
