    Not the point of the thread. When the coach says it after a season where he is arguably a good deal responsible for the team at least not making it into the first round, is it a cop out that he said it in public?

    i've seen you try and tell people how to reply to a thread before - it doesnt work that way... especially the way this site is modded. if anyone wants to start a topic on torts saying the core is getting older, or if in fact the team is aging, or how big of a factor that was in our downfall this year, they will be directed to this thread before being powerlocked.

    so get over it.

    TO laughs is right, this has been the arguement since 2011... really it was a matter of time - i think torts was completely right in saying that, and he said it after taking the full blame for the season,(maybe you should watch the interview instead of making a thread based on what, a 10 word tweet?) AS WELL AS being very open about mistakes he has made. 2 first round exits in a row, one was a sweep and one is also the number of playoff games we won in the last 3 seasons... how can anyone argue that age didnt contribute to our downfall?

    Can't critique Markstrom's game too harshly.

    This is what happens when a goalie hasn;t played in over a month, and has a team in front of him that has quit.

    Dude, you could put Patrick Roy, Brodeur, and Optimus Prime in net... And Edler would still make them look like sh#t

    he is the worst in 1 category hardly makes him the worst defenseman in the NHL

    people ignore the fact nobody on defense has been good this season or the last couple of seasons but use plus/minus as the be all end all stat in determining who will be the whipping boy

    sorry for not buying into the blind hate for 1 player when there has been nobody playing worth their contract maybe Tanev and Stanton that's it but the top 4 of Garrison Edler Hamhuis and Bieksa have all been very disappointing for quite a while now

    Yeah but Bieksa is Don Cherrys favourite, Jaygay has epic facial hair and Hammer won gold this year.

    What does Edler have besides that blank stare devoid of all thought?

    again plus/minus doesn't equal how good a player plays defense

    a player can jump on the ice and get a plus or minus for having done nothing on the play

    another player can give the puck away cause a breakaway or 2 on 1 and give the other 4 players a minus

    plus/minus is a severely overrated stat when determining how good a player is

    Worst in the NHL still says something, you're just in denial and obviously have a hard on for Edler.

    As far as your whipping boy comments - Edler being a terrible d-man has been discussed on here for years now... Since he's now the best in the NHL at sucking, it's just become commonplace and your trying to go against the crowd. Hipster.

    great post 10/10 so much info in this post to support your argument

    Even on a presidents cup winning team, with a career and team high 49 points, ON A TEAM THAT WAS +51 - Edler still managed a plus/minus of 0

    I know +/- isn't everything, but it certainly isn't nothing either. Now that the team isn't playing great, the real Alex Edler is being exposed as the weakest defensive player in the NHL. He is slow, stupid, and a liability every time he steps on the ice.

    I like jaygay, but if edler won't waive ntc I'd rather see him bought out. -30? That belongs in Alberta. Edler put up 49 points and still couldn't manage one of those elusive pluses. Hell, the nucks were +51 in 11/12, and bieksa had 44 pts, and a +13!

    I'm so done with Edler, he's an absolute wreck in his own zone, and not just since turds took over behind the bench.

    Buddy, we won't be Calgary unless we continue down this same path for at least 2 more seasons.

    Teams have off years, almost every player is under producing this year, it's just unsustainable for the team to continue performing this poorly.

    Look at Montreal a few years ago, they had a terrible year and were near the bottom of the league after being in the top 10 the year before, now they are right back near the top with the same core group of players.

    As with most things, it's never as good or as bad as it seems at the time.

    this is much more than one season of underperformance, canucks havent looked the same since '11 - and maybe the conference re-alignment has more to do with this... montreal is a tough comparison, they have a norris d-man and a LEGITIMATE top 6. can you honestly say that ANYONE on this team would be a top 6 on other 'contending' teams besides sedins and kesler? and the sedins look more like 2nd liners since the cup run. relying on Bo Horvat to make us a team with more than 3 top 6 players is just CDC foolishness.

    heres another one for you, name one trade gillis has made that made us a better team? signing UFA's doesnt count, i like santo and garrison, but if you lose every trade you make that still makes you a crap GM. Gillis didn't build the 2011 team, he inherited it... and now look what he's done to it.
