  1. All the people here blaming the victim...

Yes, Lucic could have been smarter and decided not to go out. But he wasn't doing anything wrong, he was merely doing something risky. You're allowed to do things that are risky. Assault, on the other hand, is crossing the line. This guy went too far.

You can compare it to the Thornton/Orpik incident if you want. Yes Orpik could have seen it coming and fought Thornton, even though he had done nothing wrong. Still doesn't excuse Thornton's mugging.

  2. I find it interesting that everyone just assumes the guy is a Canucks fan giving Vancouver a bad name ect. what's to say it isn't some ignorant leafs fan visiting from Toronto or a Hawks fan trying to rub in last year? Just because it happened in Vancouver doesn't necessarily mean it was a Canucks fan.

The scenario you suggested is possible, but I think it's a reasonable assumption to make that this was a Canucks fan, considering it was in downtown Vancouver, after a Canucks vs Bruins game where the Canucks absolutely kicked the Bruins' ass, and the hatred shown towards Boston by the fans.

Still though, there's no reason for the average Canucks fan to feel ashamed or embarassed by this. I had nothing to do with this, you had nothing to do with this, none of my friends had anything to do with this. I don't feel bad about something that was out of my control.

Btw can't decide if this guy had massive balls for trying to pick a fight with one of the toughest guys in the NHL, or if he only did it because he suspected that Lucic would probably not fight back due to his status as an NHL player.

  3. With a hit he didn't have to make. Look, he's the same as dustin brown a hit an run player who tries to hurt guys and will never answer the bell. What do you expect is gonna happen. Even Matt Cooke fought Thornton when he had to answer fhe bell.

The hit looked fine to me. No he didn't HAVE to make it but he's allowed to. Could've been interference maybe. But the head wasn't the main point of contact. Hundreds of players have made similar or worse hits, not very many of them were straight up mugged later on. I don't think anyone expected that to happen.

I know hockey is emotional but it sucks how guys go out and pick fights with someone who made a legal hit. The Bruins are one of the worst teams for this.

  4. @ESPNJoeyMac3m

Julien: "It's a real unfortunate situation. The only thing I'm going to say is not let’s look one way here. There’s a lot of blame to go around and we all have to take responsibility for that.”

What is Julien even trying to say here? His player made a disgusting assault on a defenseless opponent, it's pretty clear cut what happened. Sounds like a politician.

    @HackswithHaggs11m

Shawn Thornton in near tears after game: "I made a mistake. I can't say I'm sorry enough times. That's all I can say right now" #BruinsTalk

At least Thornton was honest instead of coming out with some "I was protecting myself" BS like the Bruins usually do, unlike Julien. Still, too bad he didn't think of that before he mugged a guy. Sorry Shawn, your ways and your teammates ways are finally coming back to bite you.

  5. Way too much irony here. This was 3 days ago from Thornton.

Q: DOES THE CODE STILL EXIST? IS THAT SOMETHING YOU TAKE PRIDE IN/ABIDE BY?

Thornton: I take a lot of pride in that. I do. People could probably criticize that I’m a little too honorable, I suppose, in some instances. I've been a firm believer my whole life that what goes around comes around. If you’re one of those guys that suckers someone when they’re down or you go after somebody that doesn’t deserve it or isn’t the same category as you, that will come back and bite you at some point, too.

Typical Bruins, spout off some BS about how honourable they are and how they play "the right way" and then go do something cheap and cowardly.

Thornton is an absolute goon on that play. Orpik made a good hit, he does not deserve to be assaulted on the ice. What Neal did is also irrelevant, nothing wrong with sticking up for teammates but Thornton took it way too far. On such a clear cut intent to injure, there is no excuse to not drop the hammer.

20+ games at minimum for a disgusting "play".

  6. when you start lifting, pre-workout and protein shakes are completely useless. Just lift consistently and you'll build muscle. When you come to a point where no matter what you do, you plateau, change up your routine, if that fails, take protein. But remember, you are taking non natural products. It's not always the best for your health.

Protein shakes are not useless for anyone. If you want to gain muscle, you absolutely need protein. It doesn't have to be a protein shake, it can be from food as well. But protein shakes are a convenient way to add a good chunk of protein into your day, whether you are Mr. Olympia champ or a total noob.

Also protein powder by itself is a natural product. Protein is protein no matter where it comes from. Sure some companies add stuff for flavouring, but you're making it out to be some borderline steroid.

As for preworkout, I don't think it's worth the money, but it does have benefits.

  7. www.myfitnesspal.com, lifesaving website

If you're gonna mention the website, you have to mention the app. So convenient, I can log everything right when I eat it, even when I go out. I especially like the barcode scanner feature.

  8. Wutsup fellas, I got a question for ya'll if you could share some insight (no not the drama crap, f' them)....

I've never been consistent at the gym up in till about the last 4 months (go a month here and there etc).... So I've never properly developed a masculine figure, I still have the figure of a 16yr old teen, I'm in my early 20's (smfh).

In 4 months I've shed off 30+lbs of fat, and brought my fitness level up.

Now I want to start getting jacked.

If ya'll have read my posts before, you know my gym doesn't have the basics (bench/squat/dead/preacher).... so I'm switching over to the one that does.

Im dedicated, motivated and ready to put in the work.

My question is, how long till I start developing a more manly figure (pecs emerging, body widening, back growing etc).... after hitting the basic compound movements.... I got a year until I have to leave Vancity for a while, Can I transform myself in a year?

It will take years to reach your full potential, but you can make a huge improvement in one year, especially if it's your first year of lifting. You have to remember that the average person has a pretty unimpressive physique, so if you do things properly for a full year you will probably look better than 90% of the general population. You may not be huge but you can easily look "strong" or "athletic" to the average joe.

  9. I don't agree with trading Kesler but he does need better linemates. Kesler has never been an offensive player anyways, yes he is capable offensively but he's more of an all-around two way player who gets his goals from hard work rather than skill and creativity.

If we can't find better players to provide offense we need to change our style to suit our strengths.

  10. Hey guys, need some help here on cutting.

I'm going 3-4 days a week to the gym and got a nice workout routine going, but when it comes to my diet, I'm so damn confused. I understand that a low amount of carbs is the key to losing fat while running a calorie deficit? But then some people are saying that some carbs like kidney beans are fine because they're considered to be "slow carbs?"

Right now this is what I usually eat:

    Breakfast:

    Veggie Frittata (around 4 eggs)

Homemade granola (just a bunch of nuts and oats) mixed with non-fat Greek Yogurt

    Lunch:

A bit of brown rice with chicken breast and veggies

    Dinner:

Chilli with lean ground beef, veggies, and beans.

And on days I workout, I usually eat that with a protein shake that I mix with banana, milk, and greek yogurt.

So are carbs really that bad in terms of gaining fat? Any other suggestions in burning fat? Thanks guys!

People tend to cut carbs because it's the easiest thing to cut to lose calories. Carbs are the easy target because you don't want to cut your protein intake.

  11. I'm serious. I have really big shoulders and back. Big chest. If sculpted properly it could be good, but when there's any bit of flab on it, it's not good.

I have the same "problem" but I find it to be an advantage. Makes it easier to get that strong muscular "V" shape that everyone wants. Maybe once you cut it'll look very solid.

Only problem is I look big from the front but flat from the side like a piece of plywood, but I can always add more thickness.

  12. Haha looks like we are on the exact same plan, let alone the fact our weight is almost identical.

Im doing a mix of lifting and cardio workouts while maintaining a reasonable calorie deficit.

Lift first, then I run and go on the bike. After that I sometimes swim too.

    How about you?

I still use the same lifting routine as I did while bulking. I absolutely hate cardio so instead I play sports. Stick and puck once a week with hard skating, and lots of road hockey and football outside.

  13. Looks like I'm on schedule with my cut. Was at 182 at the start of july. Currently at 176. Looking to stop somewhere around 165-170, but I wont stop until that stomach fat is gone.

EDIT: Anyone else cutting right now?

Yes actually, I'm in almost the exact same boat as far as weight. Started at 181, down to 176-177 but I started a little later. Once I'm down I'll do a long clean bulk over the winter.

  14. Any of you guys know of cheap skin products for stretch marks? I've got some pretty bad ones between my delts and arms.

I take them as a good sign that I'm making gains, but it looks like like I have patches of bacon.

  15. Creatine is not taken for the same reason you take Whey Protein.

Whey Protein is meant to be used as the building blocks of muscle. So basically repair, recovery, and maintenance.

Creatine increases ATP levels in your muscle cells, giving each muscle cell more energy. I've tried Creatine once, and yes it does work. You can lift heavier and for more reps. You also retain more water, so you look bigger. The problem is that you can only use it for relatively short cylces (or your body simply adapts). Once you come off it, you lose a lot of the gains you made before. It can also be damaging to your kidneys/liver if over used.

The good news is the losses aren't permanent though, you might be a little smaller and have a little less energy in the gym but you can easily regain it once you start using again. You would only lose water weight, no actual muscle.

  16. What do you guys do when traveling? I'm going on a eurotrip and would still prefer to eat clean/train while trying space cakes, magic truffles, and boozing. I've stocked up on some quest and vega one protein bars. Booked hostels which have pools and gyms. Any other tips and tricks while on the go?

If you've been going hard in the gym the last couple months, a week off doesn't hurt. Keeps you fresh and gives your body some extra recovery time.
