You just reminded me to go in and look at mine but there are thousands. And most of them are telling me I suck, so. And then there was that year plus long catfish...that was fun. Mutilated bunny pics...they don't pay me enough for this crap. But, I stay just the same. I'd rather just burn my messages and pretend they never happened.

I've just sifted through 708 private messages spanning the past 13 years. Unearthed some captivating discussions and rediscovered usernames that had slipped my memory.

I haven't had time to read through it all @-Vintage Canuck- but please enlighten me, are you following us on the the forumcanucks. Com?

It has been a massive joy, to have you bring news on a daily basis, and probably one of the main reasons, I started to follow CDC intensely.

Should you be leaving, can I just say massively thank you, for all you've done over the years.

I’m responding to you because I posted the article.

Like I said, no one forced you to read it so perhaps you should just be upset with yourself for “wasting” your own time and assuming or excepting something else from the article, instead of trolling something others might enjoy.

I mean, what’s the point of your post?

We have a glut of wingers vying for few available positions with the club going into camp. Of course there is going to be coverage of individual players and their status and journey and intention. Some fans want to read up on that. Hell, it’s a Province newspaper article so that might tell you something as well, no?

    Thanks for posting..

I appreciate getting to see the articles. If folks don't care, then don't read... we can only speak so much about Peteys next contract.

As for Rathbone, not sure why folks think he's slipped so far down the depth chart.   On one hand,  he's always considered a "sweetener" on any deal, but Hirose, Wolanin, or Brisbois are rarely if ever mentioned that way, because we know we'd be lucky to get anything for them.   Agree with those saying he's not a good fit with QHs already.   Although he could run the second unit, is still very young for a D.

Wolanin, Irwin and Brisbois seen the likely candidates (Irwin's spot to lose for sure, he's an actual NHLer, tough as nails and close to local kid).    Wolanin AHL all-star (Rathbone's been there too),  actually played very well last camp,  and made the most of his NHL games.    I'd have him then Brisbois.   Hirose I don't think can defend well enough.    You need those guys to be able to PK if needed too.   Don't like QHs playing the first unit that's for sure.   If Rathbones in, likely means someone is injured.   If PK minutes are needed, Brisbois is probably the best candidate (say Soucy is out).

Funny, Rathbone is the same size as Hronek.   But the kids absolutely jacked, like Hogs, and getting more jacked.    Tochett might appreciate that.    Who really knows, if he has a ridiculously good camp, they have to consider him.    With the average size of the NHL players now reaching mid-late 80's levels,  Rathbone won't have as much trouble with forwards as some people think,  but he needs to anticipate and position himself better.   I do agree he's not a good fit.    He'd have to do something pretty unreal to get another shot out of camp.

Irwin, Wolanin/Brisbois, Rathbone/Hirose for LHD.   Based on our team makeup.

Rathbone has an uphill battle for sure.   Best case for him (and not the team) is we have a rash of injuries.   And when he gets his shot, he duplicates his ability in the AHL - at the NHL level.   Kid can rack up points and score goals.   Probably should have played as a forward instead.

Unless he becomes a better defender, I can't see him anywhere in the line up.
offense is not the big problem for this group, its keeping the puck out of the net.
i was very high on him, but was disappointed last year, when he got his chance.

I think, he'll be used in a trade as there are still a chance he'll make it.

Did get at the time AV was trying to win a cup.   And the only way we had a chance against Thomas was on the power play, even though they scored short handed goals on us.   We didn't have a roster that could stand up to them, not even close.    The team was too beat up by game 3.    Truly too bad Tampa couldn't beat them, feel if they did instead, we'd still be talking about our cup and it would keep our hearts warm instead of cooling down a little over what was always going to be a long long road after.    At least we had hope for a repeat.   Whoops that didn't work out.   At the time my brother said they fired the wrong guy - should have kept AV and fired MG.    And that we should have rebuilt or re-tooled around Kesler, which we surely could have if we didn't re-sign the Sedins for 22% ish of the cap.

Was sad how things went.    Was rooting heavily for TB watching that series.    Could see Thomas was pulling a Roy/Hasek.   If we weren't Canucks fans, we'd be still talking about what he did.   Even we won game 7, Thomas was getting the Smythe.   Even if we won in six he'd get the Smythe.    At least we are in the record books for something, only team to score 8 goals in the final and make it to game 7.    Only Sawchuk and Roy managed what Thomas did.   Know it stings but that's the truth.

Know we didn't get a PP that time.  But we did get a margin of 2-1.   And Boston played to their strengths,  and we played to ours.   AV kept the team disciplined no matter what.    All would be forgiven if it worked.   It didn't so that stings more.   Thomas checking Daniel Sedin like Hextall or Billy Smith also comes to mind.

    Wish Torres had run Thomas...

  7. An I the only one, who seems to see players run other players without fear of facing the music, or fear of their own star players getting run?

The NHL is never going to not let the Bruns, Flyers or Flames play with an edge.
I hope, I'm wrong, but we don't have much by means of nastiness in our line up.

I don't disagree, in fact i completely agree!

Its just my opinion they are NHL ready, capable & will. But also need the right roles / system. Which was lost in Bruce's game plan. Or lack thereof? At least with his personnel. He let too many guys play a loose, creative game. As soon as opposing coaches caught on; they focussed match ups to create errors from guys not up to it? Among the reasons he was fired.  I sense Tochet will have a better idea how to deploy them.

All NHL players are good athletes.  Hoglander & Podkolzin are more Elite than most in terms of fitness, training, agility, power. Ability to play with energy. Do hold credible hockey skills. The best of which might be to go in to a corner, or on the forecheck & come out with the puck? Based on brute athletic ability. Arguably, not as high on puck smarts? Bruce emphasized creativity more than structure. Coming out of the corner, team mates were not always in set positions or plays. And they made more mistakes trying to go wide, or beat a guy one on one? Than, say, Miller or Petey. Tochet will always have a player in position, a structured cycle game for them to make a play to...

Reign creativity, make simpler North / South plays, chip plays, get in deep, win the puck & lock it in. Start that cycle, hold off and beat guys physically. For most pairs and lines. Still leaving a license? More creative rope for key pairs & line combinations of Hughes, Kuzmenko, Petey, the power play.

New coaching should help Hoglander & Podkolzin. Also Garland, Mikheyev who compete their asses off. Beauvillier, just my opinion, might be a casualty? Not as much a puck winner. Not quite productive enough. When gifted / given time with our elite guys, Barzal on the Island. Boeser will either have to keep up with the big guns & their puck smarts, or also win pucks. He might, perhaps both? He did when healthy & had young legs. My guys will kill it with Rick behind the bench!

Agree 100% and yes not only will they be looking to off load at least 1 of Boeser, Beau and Garland, to make room, but they likely want to create a bit of breathing space.

Beau is the likely victim as he 'only' has a year left on his contract.
Boeser, I think, is in the last chance saloon, while Garland won't be easy to shift. As good as he is, he lacks size and not PK'ing, so its a big contract to carry.

We'll see, but I just want them all to keep working hard to achieve their, and our, dreams.

I believe a Hronek / Hughes pair would be dynamite! Not sure it leaves enough strength in moving the puck behind on depth pairs. Cole could be interchanged sometimes, when size could be a key match up.

I really, really hope we don't try to acquire an elite defensive D by trade!  Even an aging defensive D.  I just don't see us close enough to be blathering away assets as free gifts. The time to spend assets on nice things is when we have so many, its possible without damage.  Or are one step from a cup.

I don't mind a decent to elite defensive D UFA next summer; when Pearson & Myers are off the books.

Related we also need to trade a winger.  One, even two of Boeser, Garland or Beauvillier.  Ideally Beauvillier?  In a pinch Mikheyev.

    A  ) To move cap

B  ) To make space for Podz & Hogz.

We need Hoglander & Podkolzin, in our line up!  Increased speed, agility and size in Podkolzin's case.

Agree we need Hogs and Podz in the line up for reasons you mentioned + cap hit...

But firstly we need them to prove themselves.
Places shouldn't just be handed out but earned.
Still wish Jake had been made to earn his place in the line up. Maybe that would have changed his attitude, where everything comes easy...

long live west coast express, but tbh I would trade leterremaki + 2025 or 2024 1st with some protection for a really good top 4 D...hello Josh Morissey and of course some cap to balance it out :) Tyler Myers!!!!

While getting Morrissey would be real good, I'm not aold on giving up the 2024 and 2025 1st round picks.
I fear, we will be rebuilding, sooner than we think, and we will need our 1st round picks for that.
Morrissey would most likely give us a chance, for a serious push, but we'll end up having to pay big for few players in a year or two, and I struggle to see, how they are going to make ends meet at that time.
It is going to be a long road, if we don't have buikding blocks in place, once the season is over... very long...

That’s a good point, for sure, when you’re at the bargain bin.  I just think Ritchie has “soft” size if that makes sense.

    ZAR - 6’1 205

    Comtois 6’2 210

both would bring a little more size without sacrificing bottom-6 two way play. They might be more in-demand than Ritchie, however.  I think fixing the PK / our two way play is more important than adding a big body.

    Absolutely...

And I think it is being addressed, but the comtois issue hasn't been settled yet, so maybe that is why, they haven't shown an interest in him.

You may be right about the soft size, which is not what is needed, but my point is just beggars can be choosers, or at least limited ^_^

  14. Somebody come up with a big body, who can play heavy, for less than $1M????

We struggle for somebody, who can play a heavy game, but if we want a player, who can fight, hit, score and be good defensively, we are NOT looking at a $1M player...

As long as we don't move one of our top earners, these are the kind of players we need to take a punt on... at worst waive him afterwards.
