  1. If Tanev starts to put up even above average point totals 30ish +, it would make him one of the best overall Dmen in the league... how many guys are as good defensively and put up the points.. not many. Basically people are complaining he's not good enough to get Norris votes, because that's what would happen with 15 more points a season.

  2. I'd say he is as good as the 2011 Burr, but he's just not playing with the twins, so his numbers aren't so inflated.

Twins can't inflate a balloon these days. Burr was also a beast back then, faster, better hands, a great player on any line. Age and wear jushappin.

  3. I thought plenty of guys did well under Torts. Most of the players who had horrawful years should have been expected to do so. Edler was clearly going down hill. Daniel was clearly half the player he was pre-concussion, without Hank to drag him along kicking and screaming, it really showed. 1/3 of the season without a goal? pathetic.

Burrows, Garrison and Hank were the only ones who suprised me with poor years. Burr and Hank missed time due to some injuries though, and Garry was apparently nursing some. Have faith in all of em to bounce back.

    Danny is done.

Kes still scored his usual, assists obviously hurt, seeing as he was the only one scoring. Our young guys all took big steps.

  4. I have always compared Tanevs defensive style to that of a less illusive Keith. That calm demeanor, regardless of who's coming on the forecheck. He just stops, turns, waits and makes the pass all in one fluid sequence. Looks very similar. That "effortless" factor. On the other side of the rink it's a whole notha story, but no one is expecting 50 points here. He has shown he can put up respectable numbers on a offensively garbage team without pp time. No reason to think he can't break 30.

We have very few defensive players left. Kesler is on his way out. Burrows is gettin up there in age. Hansen and especially Higgins have shown time and time again they can't handle the big boys. Bieksa and Garrison are up and down. Edler is a train wreck.

For all the talk of how D-men can be great well into their 30's, we are already watching Edler plummet in his mid-late 20's. Hamhuis has gotten worse and more inconsistent over the last 2 season, both years being shown up by his partner. The majority of top end D-men in the league are in their mid 20's, some even younger.

Moving arguably our best D-man at the age of 24, will bite us hard. No reason to believe we will be well off without him. Already had to watch us get swept by SJ because we had Edler and Bieksa out there defending leads. PK and D went to trash after Tanman took the Stamkos shot to the wrist. He's made every pairing he's been on respectable, regardless of how bad his partner may be. No one else here does that.

  5. I find it funny that the folks calling for Edlers head aren't insisting on buying out/trading Burrows too. He had the same problem as Edler: one disastrous season under a ill fit coach

Except Burrows was injured much of the time, and was good the year before. Not to mention our best playoff forward vs San Jose, and not the worst on the ice vs LA. Things Edler cannot claim.

  6. Well speaking personally, I'm glad he seems to think we can get him back to his best. For me he never recovered his relationship with Tortorella after he humiliated him on the bench. His form plummeted from there, as did the team's.

Humiliate is a strong word. All Torts did was chew him out, and he damn well deserved it. Eddie has been slipping for a lot longer than that. Every athlete in the world gets ripped now and then, no matter how good they might be. Mostly in plain sight. If that's all it takes to rattle him, then he's gotta go.

  7. Lets just blame Torts, it's clearly his fault for asking Edler to be a competent defenseman. We shouldn't have to coddle a 28 year old 5million dollar man. If he can't carry a pairing, he needs to go. We already have enough complementary pieces. Cheaper and better ones at that.
