EATONVILLE, Wash. -- Two Pierce County deputies are in critical condition after they were shot near Eatonville. The suspected shooter is dead, said Ed Troyer of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

One deputy has been airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and the other deputy was taken to Madigan Army Medical Center.

Troyer said the deputies have life-threatening injuries.

The shooting happened in the 33300 block of Tanwax Court East.

Troyer said deputies were called to the home for a domestic violence incident with an “unwanted guest.”

One man invited police into the home while another man “intentionally hid and armed himself,” Troyer said. When police tried to make contact with the second man he opened fire on the deputies.

“A lot of rounds were fired,” Troyer said.

Troyer did not know if this was an intentional setup and if the man who wasn’t armed knew that the other man was.

Many police departments are aiding in the investigation including Lakewood and Eatonville
