Who:

New York Islanders

Where:

General Motors Place, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

When:

March 16th, 2010 - 7:00 PM - SNET-P (HD) - Team 1040

Opinion:

When the puck drops for this game, Ryan Kesler as we all know, will be looking to extend his point streak to 14 games, much like Daniel Sedin is looking to extend his point streak to 11 games. Not to bad if you think about it... in fact, its amazing! Think about the season for a moment, and you'll notice that there's a lot of thought into Henrik Sedin winning the Art Ross Trophy, or Ryan Kesler winning the Selke trophy. Put this into prospective: Henrik Sedin with 111 - 114 points by season end... thats remarkable considering the lack of views on Henrik Sedin... oh wait we forgot about Daniel Sedin. The question that is always asked is: What would Henrik and Daniel's point total's look like if Daniel Sedin never missed a game due to injury? Well no one knows for sure, but I think we can all conclude that we would see anywhere from 90 - 100 Points each at this point in the season, and only 68 games have been played! Thats remarkable considering Daniel Sedin is on pace for a 86 Point season... Which would beat his original Season high 84 Points set back in 07-08 in considerably fewer games! That is really a back burner if you think about it. Now what we haven't talked about... is the recent success of Ryan Kesler. Can he tackle Point per game? Is he going to be a potential Point Per Game player like the Sedins are now? Or will he dwindle into his checking force, and go back to getting 40 - 60 Points a year? Well the biggest question of all is.. Will he resign? We will not find out until season's end, but in the mean time, lets enjoy the Tavares and Sedin show on Tuesday night shall we? The New York Islanders are steaming having won their last two games, a 4-1 Win in Toronto, and a 4-2 Win in New Jersey the game before that! Will Tavares score against Luongo? Will Luongo shut down the Isles? Well again, we will find out when the game rolls around. In my personal opinion, I see the Sedin show, and early success in the first period repeating itself like against Calgary, and if by any means, we should be mistaken by the likes of Tavares.. well so be it, but I think as a Canucks fan, there is no reason for the Canucks as a team; to think that they can't beat the Islanders.. because truthfully, the Vancouver Canucks will not get an opportunity like this against the Eastern Conference this year until... the Stanley Cup Final... thats if the Vancouver Canucks can prowl their way through the first three rounds... something we haven't seen since the 94 NHL Season.

Numbers:

25 Wins on Home Ice - 3rd best in the League behind Chicago and Washington

13 Game Point Streak for Ryan Kesler - the longest streak currently in the NHL

10 Game Point Streak for Daniel Sedin - Will he continue it?

7 Game Point Streak for Mikael Samuelsson - Man, why didn't we place him on the Right Wing with the Sedins in the beginning?

2 Powerplay goals allowed in last 5 games - What a Penalty Killing Force!
