Here is a most recent photo of the scoreboard and blue boards. Looks like it is going to be an amazing add!

I love the change from generic red to blue on the top part of boards. What would really look great and distinguishable from other NHL rinks is making the base of the boards either a light sky blue or a greenish aqua blue.

The blue on both the top and bottom of the Pacific Coliseum boards in the Canucks' first season was beautiful:

Its currently just a different era of national anthem singers. The type of singers you've listed are from a bygone era (and if you liked those singers, you must have been a big Mark Donnelly fan). It looks like variety is the order of the day.

Not singing the anthems 'note perfect' isn't a punishable crime anymore, but I agree that taking too many liberties with the melodies (butchering) is annoying.

Thats why i like Marie Hui , great pitch, good energy, and certainly not too hard on the eyes.

I'll take the bygone era any day. When hockey and hockey's atmosphere was real, genuine and less commercialized and corporate.

I have nothing against Richard Loney, he did a fantastic job. In 2023 however, thats not what people want to see/ hear. It was good back then. but most of the singers back then were fairly nondescript, singing note perfect renditions.

What makes you think or believe that in 2023 that people don't want to see nor hear great singers like Richard Loney, Roger Doucet(Montreal), Paul Lorieau(Edmonton) and Susan Smith(Calgary)?? Great anthem singing includes note perfect renditions. And when those legendary singers sang along to the organ playing, it added to hockey games.

    Marie, is that you?

Tbh, everyone since Richard Loney has stunk.

The team needs a tenor that can send shivers through the crowd like Cornelison.

When Richard Loney sang, especially with the organist playing, he was one of the very few bright spots during the losing 80's:

Richard Loney wouldnt even be considered to be the anthem singer for the Canucks in this day and age.

And why is that?? Richard Loney was the Jim Robson of national anthem singing. When he sang, it was Hockey Night In Vancouver.

    Absolutely nothing wrong with Marie.

Marie Hui sounds like she's singing in the shower. She's appropriate for singing at Whitecaps or baseball Canadians games or even at Grizzlies games if we still had the NBA. She's not NHL calibre. Calgary's Susan Smith was 100 x better.

  5. I forgot her name but she sang both The Star Spangled Banner and O Canada for one game late last season. I believe it was the Canucks vs the Kings but I could be mistaken. It was on a night when the Canucks were promoting autism awareness. She was absolutely incredible. She sang both anthems in their entirety to perfection in a strong baritone opera voice. The best since the late great Richard Loney. The best female voice I had listened to since Susan Smith who was the longtime Calgary Flames' anthem singer. I would LOVE to have her as our full-time anthem singer. If not her, we need an anthem singer with a strong baritone opera voice plus organ music playing along. Not celebrity singers who sound like they're singing in the shower or trying to "entertain" . Marie Hui is good but not great. Her singing should be at Whitecaps games or Canadians baseball games.

When we had one of the very best anthem singers in sports history, the bar shouldn't be lowered.

  6. Welcome to Vancouver, Tom Willander! I was hoping for one of the three remaining Greater Vancouver area players, LW Zach Benson(Langley), LW Andrew Cristall(Vancouver) and D Lukas Dragicevic(Richmond) but there is a lot of promise with this young defenseman who has committed to play at Boston University in the NCAA which is great decision on his end. Will Willander become the next coming of Mathias Ohlund?? Who knows. However, I'm sure he won't be the Swedish version of Ollie Juolevi.

Did Vancouver enjoy going to the Cup final in 1982?  If so then don't complain about the Tiger Williams trade.

Getting Tiger was absolutely needed for the club, absolutely. The problem was getting Jerry Butler, an average tough guy in the trade. Should have acquired a future 1st rounder, considering both Derlago and Vaive were 1st rounders.

Does our owner hire anyone and allow them to set the club’s direction? He gave Benning 8 years because the guy was a yes man. As a crazy Canuck fan I (of course) want us to win so pull for the best result from any trades, signings, and hockey moves. But it’s also clear our owner sets a course and whether it’s the best path or not he expects his management to follow that direction or he replaces them.

It's why Francesco is the worst owner in sports(Daddy Luigi is actually the owner)and one of the worst in business practices. He's a bullying and controlling narcissist. The more legal troubles he faces, the far better.

It's the penguins logo but more busy. You're welcome to think it's a perfect logo in your mind, but I fully disagree.

I can see it being used as a fun 3rd/special jersey, but as a main jersey it doesn't do it for me. I'd want something cleaner overall (which is probably also why I don't like the skate logo as that's also busy).

Both Johnny Canuck and the Skate are far superior than the constipated-looking and corporately-inspired Orca.

    Great jersey, horrible logo

Perfect logo. Covers all the bases:

Johnny is wearing skates - Flying Skate.

Johnny is holding a hockey stick - Stick In Rink.

Johnny is a lumberjack - Lumber industry helped build the City Of Vancouver.

His name is Johnny Canuck - Our beloved team name, Canucks..

GIVEN HOW MUCH he loves the game and wants to be involved, has Bublé ever explored the idea of NHL ownership?\

Toigo said Bublé is really good friends with another Vancouver native, Ryan Reynolds, who is part of a group that wants to purchase the Ottawa Senators.

So Michael, anything you want to share? Like, maybe you're going to join forces with Deadpool, be a part owner of the Senators and perform during intermissions every now and again?

"No, it hasn't been a conversation," Bublé said. "I think it hasn't been because No. 1, I don't know if I would want to go there."

Go there? As in NHL ownership?

"No. NHL ownership is fine, but the Ottawa Senators aren't my team," Bublé said. "I think it's Canucks or bust. I really do. That may never, ever happen. The truth is, it's not like I have some serious ambition where I've ever really truly put it out there. I mean, who wouldn't want to own a team?"

Bublé said he once had a long talk with longtime NHL great and Hockey Hall of Famer Phil Esposito about owning a team. Bublé said there were "a bunch of management groups," that came to him and he got "very close" to getting involved in NHL ownership.

    https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/35929668/how-michael-buble-became-part-owner-vancouver-giants

I would love to see Arthur Griffiths back in the ownership picture. Perhaps Trevor Linden too? Bublé gets my full support too.

I guess no one else remembers how the original skate logo was at times ridiculed in the local media for being drawn as plummeting downhill.  Something about how that was symbolic of Canucks history, and maybe a bad omen as well. That interpretation left me hoping that they would redesign it to actually be pointing upward one day.

The Skate is downWARD on the toe, not "downhill". It should never ever point upward which is putting the Skate on its heel. Besides, the Canucks have been "on their heels" for too long now.

A leveled Skate might take some getting used to for some, but it's worth a try. Otherwise, a logo symbolizing the speed and grace of hockey and encorporating the CANUCKS name is an instant winner in my book.

  13. I don't know much about Filip Hronek but as a proven RH defenseman at age 25, this could be a good trade. I absolutely HATE giving up draft picks...especially in a deep and strong draft year. Thankfully, the 1st rounder going to the Red Wings was the conditional pick acquired from the Islanders for BoHo and not the Canucks' actual first rounder that could be a lottery pick or a Top 10. By including a '23 2nd rounder, Hronek will hopefully be a solid top pairing defenseman with Hughes. Good RH defensemen in their mid 20's aren't just given away. I do feel that most of us Canucks fans are traumatized by Benning's mismanagement and Francesco's greed for short-term playoff revenue. However, Petey and Hughes are about to enter their prime. Kuzy has been a gem. Beauvillier hasn't disappointed. Bear is becoming a solid top 4 defenseman. Fingers crossed that Demko will find last season's form.  We had hopes for this season but I'm starting to see hope for next season.
