A logo doesn't have to do with a team name.  Buffalo for the longest time didn't have a Sabre.  The Habs, Rangers, Capitals don't have a logo that represents the team name.  If you wanted something to do with the Canucks name, the only thing you could do is slap Johnny Canuck on as the logo.  A skate does not represent our team name at all.

Now to the bolded part.  The Orca is part of our culture of people here in the Pacific Northwest.  Our Canucks are only represented here in this part of the country, why would we want to try and represent people from Alberta and East of us?  The orca is a symbol we use here on the West Coast.  That is the reason why that corporation had orca in its name to begin with.  The Orca has infinitely more representation of us from BC, than a skate which is such a generic hockey logo, that it is probably what several teams use as a logo in peewee hockey.  Actually, if you think about it long enough, the logo sounds so amateurish for a professional hockey team to use.  The Vancouver Flying Skates.  Yes, that sounds like a peewee team for sure.  Actually, I believe that was a team name in my younger brother's peewee league.

If the logo is representing the place where our team is from then the team name is too general for that. I would agree with you if it was Vancouver Orcas. The Habs, Rangers and Capitals are all using letters to represent there logos. Canucks are using a picture of an orca which is not a good representation of the team name. The skate logo is not that bad and it is related to the name Canucks. If you want our team to be recognized for the place where the they come from then the name should be changed. Having color scheme, logo and name to represent different things or all be unrelated creates confusion. Like the symbol being an animal, color representing a place and the name representing a nationality. If Canucks means Canadians then the colorway for that is red and white like Montreal Canadiens. If the symbol is an Orca then the name should represent that or at least come close to being related to Orca symbol like Seattle Krakens. If the color scheme is green and blue then the name should connect to that color scheme. Problem is all three are so unrelated and mean different things that it doesnt make for a strong branding.

A logo should always represent the team name and/or the sport. That's why I'm a huge Johnny Canuck supporter. However, I also love and appreciate the simple elegance of the original Stick in Rink and the creative dynamics of the Flying Skate. I love both the original/current BC-themed colours and the black, red and yellow. The red adds a Canadian flavour to the latter colour scheme and the yellow can be interpreted as the sun setting on our BC coast.

I do feel that we need to stick with the blue(perhaps a vibrant navy instead of royal) and green look. We can't keep jumping back-and-forth between colour schemes. That's why I am fully open to a recoloured Skate (and leveled) if designed right. It would be a great way to unite all the eras in Canucks history.

My only dealbreakers are the corporately-inspired Orca and the bastardized Stick in Rink. Even Johnny Canuck's head trapped in the V looks awkward. The bland Agency font needs to go too.

  2. If it weren't for Francesco's and 'Papa' Luigi's interference, the Canucks would have had Nick Ehlers or William Nylander instead of having several years of underachieving, lack of motivation and drama from Virtanen just because he's a BC boy.

^^  I saw that jersey idea - the best ones yet. Wish I could buy one. These would fly off the shelves. Why can't the Canucks use these as their jerseys? Then maybe those Abbotsford ones would make more sense.

That is razor-sharp. Would be one of the most popular in North American pro sports and a red-hot seller.$$$$$

I had high hopes in 81/82, 94/95, and again in 10/11. I never thought the Canucks would beat the Islanders. But, had Bossy not picked that Snepts clearing attempt off the boards in the first game, who knows? That Pat Quinn team was loaded, tenacious, had scoring, had goaltending, coaching, but, Layfayette dinging the shot off the cross bar, who knows? AV had probably the best Canuck team ever, but, injuries, and some suspicious refereeing, who knows? Those runs are fun, exciting, so I can't imagine what winning one would be like for this City and Province. When I see franchises like Carolina, TBay, Dallas, Anaheim, and LA win them, it totally p()s** me off. Their populations wouldn't know a puck from a taco!

What really cost the Canucks Game 1 in the '82 final was Brodeur not staying in his crease when it was 5-4 Canucks with over 5 minutes remaining in regulation.

Care to explain the difference between the two (hope your not referring to recap penalty Loungo) ?

The Loungo recap penalty has absolutely nothing to do with what I just stated.

Francesco is a meddling owner and a troublemaker within the organization. It's why Linden is gone. Roberto Aquilini and even brother Paolo are both good guys who aren't anything like Francesco

This team will never a cup has along has Francesco is the owner

Or at the very least, have Papa Luigi Aquilini remove Francesco as chairman and replace him with Roberto is a lot smarter in business than Francesco and is a decent down-to-earth guy.

If money was not an issue, this is what I would love to see with the Canucks:

Bring in a President of Hockey Operations/Alternate Governor.  Best option: John Davidson.  Honorable mention: Mike Gillis (I like the idea of having someone with a law degree in this position...especially in dealing with NHL front office).  Would love to see Brian Burke (also a lawyer) but that's not possible.  Let this be the position that deals NHL admin/operational issues, sets the long term vision for the organization, deal with ownership on a daily basis.

General Manager: Try to pry George McPhee (also a lawyer) out of Vegas (bring him home to where he started his hockey management career).  Not likely to happen.  So, target Dale Tallon.  His fingerprints are all over the current Panthers team and the 'hawks Stanley Cup teams.  Would be another homecoming of sorts.

AGM: bring back Laurence Gillman.  One of the best capologists of our time.  Bring in Kevin Bieksa as well and groom him to be the next GM.  A lawyer and a finance major.  Great combination.  Get rid of Weisbrod.  Not sure what Chris Gear does.

Head of Pro Scouting: I have no idea who would be a good candidate, but this is one area where the Canucks current regime has failed at.  Vrbata, Loui, Beagle, Roussel plus a bunch of others all signed after their expiry date.  Brutal, and needs a significant upgrade.

Head of Amateur Scouting: offer Jimbo this position.  This is Jimbo's pay grade (no disrespect to those in this position). If Jimbo balks, let him walk and do everything to get Judd Brackett back.

Head Coach: I would bring Travis Green back; if not, I think John Stevens or Gerard Gallant would be good options.

Assistant Coaches: Give Doug Jarvis a more prominent role; Baumgartner and Brown - they need to be replaced.

And most importantly, sign IAN CLARK to a million year contract extension.

110% agree with all your takes except for Burke. I don't want his overbearing arrogance back in this market.

Mike Gillis I would support as President of Hockey Operations but not as Team President/Alternate Governor. The latter position should go to someone like John Davidson who has outstanding PR skills.

However, the most important thing is for Luigi Aquilini to remove Francesco as chairman and out of CSE and replace him with Roberto. Roberto is the most qualified in running a business and is very-well respected in the community despite his family name. When the Griffiths, who had their fair share of criticism as owners during the 80's, hired Pat Quinn as "superboss", they gave The Big Irishman the keys to the entire operation and allowed him to run the Canucks organization in the way that he saw fit. And look what happened....success on the ice, the upgrading of the uniforms while keeping the popular Skate crest, developing the Canucks Alumni and building involvement in the community, especially with sick and terminally ill children.

Very similar leadership that Quinn brought to Vancouver needs to happen again.

  8. Change has to happen at the very top. It means having Roberto and/or Paolo take over from Francesco. If the Canucks plan on replacing Benning as GM, who in one's right mind would ever want to work under Francesco?? Certainly, not someone highly qualified and respected. Roberto and Paulo are both highly respected and seen as quality guys as opposed to Francesco.

  9. Benning should be moved to the position of Director of Scouting, previously Judd Brackett's position and my choice for general manager and president would be to bring back Lawrence Gilman. His asset management and, obviously, his cap management skills are excellent. He also is a good judge of talent. Gilman is also very personable and is very familiar with the Vancouver market.

  10. Gaudette joins the list of young players given up on too early by the Canucks. Again, HORRIBLE asset management by a one-trick pony GM. Gaudette was a gem discovered by departed/ousted Director of Scouting, Judd Brackett. The first Canucks NCAA prospect to win the Hobey Baker Award as well. Unbelievable.

  11. Freaking dog-gone Bell. I hope the Whitecaps ditch them as a kit sponsor. The late great Paul Carson must be turning in his grave now. The man who gave Vancouver and BC both Sports Page on CKVU-TV and the TEAM 1040 Radio and discovered great broadcasting talent. Worst of all, so many good people lost their jobs at the expense of corporate greed.

Canadian media corporations absolutely are pathetic.
