Not sure what to really expect from a 34a Bailey. If he can pot 30pts. he's a serviceable depth signing at this point in his career.
Stats/age prove he's on the decline but it's good to see he's willing to showcase at least the willingness to compete.

They should create an 8th round in the draft. So that instead of future considerations, you give up an 8th round draft pick which is basically a million to one shot.
Luc Robitaille 9th round.

Tampa better hope Jeannot learns how to score again. They gave up an entire draft class for him. If all he does is fight then that might turn out to be the worst trade in NHL history.
Cam Neely would like a word.

Hasek in his prime Toronto wins the cup he did more with less in Buffalo and almost won there.
The '99 playoffs for BUF and Hasek we're incredible to watch.
They were robbed.

I don't believe there's room for him.
Thankfully.

Not me. Not a reflection on Benson, I just get a good vibe from Willander. Love how he switched to D only a few years ago and is trending upwards. His skating and vision are there, size. There's easily as much to get excited about as Benson. In the end if Benson is a top six forward and Willander is a top four righty, both regulars in the NHL, I'd take the righty D everytime.
If Willander turns into a great partner to Hughes in a "Brent Burns/Paul Martin" type pairing in the future, I'll be stoked.

He's a defenceman who can't play any defence whatsoever. You don't want this pylon on the ice or in the dressing room. Anyone who brings him in is a complete idiot.
Soooo, Pittsburgh?

It's honestly another solid check mark for new management.
They brought in Tochett, Foote and Gonchar to improve defensive play, structure etc. They've been bringing in solid 2 way/defensive F's, they brought in two solid 2 way/defensive D this summer to play with Hughes/Hronek (in front of Myers). They added/have 3 potential defensive D to play with/cover for Myers in Irwin/Wolanin/Hirose. All on top of a contract year.
Talk about maximizing a trade asset
Maximizing a trade asset, at this juncture, is the belief that Myers will play out his final contract year betting on a windfall in FA.
This, of course, assumes, the Canucks are out of the play-off picture this coming spring and teams looking for solid depth on RD are willing to pay.
Time will tell.

$15m.
At the time, that's a bucket load of cash.

No but in terms of salary cap and timelines, McDavid is over halfway through his original deal, his value has far exceeded his current deal. Keep in mind, the Mackinnon you are thinking of right now is not the same Mackinnon that was at Pettersson’s age. Mackinnon signed his retirement deal, he will be 28 to start his full new contract. Pettersson has played his way up to what McDavid “used to be” worth in terms of dollars. But in terms of cap hit% he wouldnt be getting the same. The salary cap will be rising and a 12.5mil cap hit that is 15% today, will be 10% in a few years. Meanwhile McDavid will be signing his new deal at like 20mil.
If Pettersson was signing at the same time as McDavid or Mackinnon it would be nowhere near the same, but the fact he is signing after, its just scaling with the cap increase.
If we get him to sign for under 11mil for 8 years, this is a massive win.
Regardless I’m excited for the future even if he were to sign a 12mil deal. With online betting and and whatnot, the cap is expected to rise significantly over the coming years, so even if we take a hit now, we’ll be saving so much more down the road. Atleast thats how I view it.
Interestingly enough if you look at Mackinnon’s first 5 years and Petterssons…….
Petey>Mackinnon
Hope that he continues on the his current trajectory because he will indeed be one of the big superstars in the league for years.
Well written.
If Pettersson ends up being 1/2 the player MacKinnon is (cap aside), your "scalable cap" analogy is what some don't appear to really appreciate.

Quick poll on his extension…
a) it’s already done, to be announced on Monday
b) history is repeating itself and Pat Morris is battling Lou Lam for $
c) Bo will hire a new agent
d) Bo has zero interest in signing with NYI, and heads to UFA
e) I don’t care, I’ve moved on
D.
Either Detroit or Buffalo.

Jet turns, all clear, followed quickly by other Canucks ... all clear. Gave the signal.
It wasn't an "all clear" signal.
It was an "I have possession of the puck, why are you still here?" signal.

I was joking about paying JT $8+ million at 38 instead of Statsny and Bergeron etc for much cheaper at same age
Ahhhh. Thank you for the clarification.

We'd rather cripple our team paying 38 yr olds $8+, than signing former stars (like Statsny or Bergeron etc) for much much less
Huh?

We have no cap to add a dman though.
So something has to give.
If they decide to run it back with this offence and rely on Demko and hope we just move the puck up and out quick aggressively having a puck mover on each pairing:
OEL/HUGHES/RATHBONE
It will be wild.
But I just can't imagine them not doing 1-2 trades here.
Interesting concept would be:
Garland for Marino (Save 0.5M)
Miller Trade for no roster players just prospects and picks (save 5.25M)
Trade Myers to a team for 2nd round pick or mod we can get. RHD prospect we like would be ideal. (save 6M)
11.75 M cap space gained
Sign Rodriguez 2M and Klingberg to a deal similar too Letangs but little more money 7-7.5 x 6.
9.5 M spent with some wiggle room if we had to take a little money back in one of those deals above
Mikheyev-Petey-Boeser
Kuzmenko-Horvat-Podkozlin
Pearson-Rodriguez-Hoglander
Dickinson-Lazar-Joshua
Lockwood
OEL-Klingberg
Hughes-Marino
Rahbone-Schenn
Dermott-Burroughs/Poolman
Demko
Martin
Really mobile puck moving back end for an aggressive offensive team coached by Bruce.
That second line is wicked.
