THAT is more like it.  But imagine only seeing Edmonton.  Toronto.  Calgary in the playoffs every year

It could just as easily be Montreal, Winnipeg and Vancouver.

However watching Toronto get bounced in the first round repeatedly would be entertaining.

I really do believe the level of competition would be excellent and the rivalries built/extended would become very heated.

I LOATHE this idea.  It will mean no matter what, only 1 possibly 2 Canadian teams a season will make the post season if another realignment happens.

Screw that.  Western canada and eastern canada sure.  But a Canaidan division?  Hell no.

Toronto hasn't even been Canadian since "the incident"

Two Canadian Divisions would make even more sense. I also believe this will be temporary (only last for one maybe two seasons).

I'm actually excited for that idea. It will be great for the Canadian rivalries. The problem for the Canucks is that it will be the best division, in all likelihood.

I think it will be great for hockey in general.

As you mention, it would be a very competitive division which should help television ratings.

Us Canadian fans would love it, for sure.

You would think that would work.

No idea if Canucks are on his list, but if someone is not wanted, they will generally expand their list a little. Usually as long as they would be going to a team that they believe can compete.

FWIW, he's apparently expanded his list to eight teams.

    So let’s get this straight.

Vegas is about 1 million over the cap right now with two players to sign.

So that’s 3 million they have to clear plus you wanna be about a million under so call it 4 million.

Then you need to factor in the replacement player for the player they still have to dump so that’s around 5 million.

They won’t be trading a D man because they’d be too thin there. That leaves 3 logical players that they are going to need to dump.

Either Smith, Marchassault, or Tuch are going to have to be traded. They can’t trade Stone or Karlsson and Pacioretty would be too hard to move and leave too big of a hole.

So the question is why gets traded? My guess would be Tuch being the odd man out. Think we can get him for cheap?

If Benning could find a taker for Rousssel or Baertschi trading another pick to snag Tuch would be a no-brainer.

All these moves would be lovely but it's been such a quiet trade front, I'm worried he might sit pat and just let the kids do the work for us.

Benn's value right now is drained low after not playing much last season so if JB could deal him + a kid for a solid 15 minute defenceman that'd be great but doubtful.

Realistically I think the kids on defence are going to play. They're going to make mistakes, it's going to be an ugly season and our GA is going to be downright bad but mainly down to how good Demko is (because I think Holty is going to be shelled for a GAA of 3+).

Geeze. This is a little bit melodramatic don't you think?

Schmidt is an upgrade on Tanev.

Benning is now searching for an upgrade on Stecher, either via trade or FA.

Holtby is two years removed from a Stanley Cup.

I like to feel a little more positive about this group going forward. There will be no regression, IMHO.

Interesting, the team that beat us get better and heavier while we help them do it by taking the crumbs of their table.

Pietrangelo is much bigger than Schmidt and produce up to 20 points more.

This is more of a desperate move by Benning in my view. He had to do something... I had waited til we could get one of the best.

I hope Schmidt prove me wrong though.

"one of the best" for a third round pick?

Excellent. Cannot wait to hear what you might think is a better move by ANY NHL GM.

    Desperate move indeed.

I wonder if something else is in the works aside from ditching a little salary... Beggars can’t be choosers, but I would see Schmidt more of an Edler partner than complementing Hughes.

    Hughes-XX

    Edler-Schmidt

    Juolevi-Myers

Maybe those Weegar rumours have something behind them, or maybe we just take what we can get after all the other plans Del through.

He's an upgrade over Tanev, who I love as a heart and soul guy.  However, this reminds me of adding Hamhuis back in the day, different players, but it was an impact, that you felt from the top pair down.  Good job Benning.  We took a slight downgrade in goal, and upgraded in front of Holtby/Demko!  Watch out Vegas, we're coming for you!

There's zero downgrade in goal. It's a lateral move, FWIW.
