On a short minimum contract… I don’t hate it
If the Canucks are looking to bolster the bottom 6 (finally replace Ferland) this would be a decent place to start.

Brock has been at times; a top 20 RW in the NHL, arguably flirting with top 10? A good balance of risk, less than his QC but not THAT much less...
I still like it. Cuz I like Brock!
I agree. Happy they were able to negotiate something more reasonable than 7.5per.
Not likely there would be a sign and trade either.

I'm excited he accepted less.
This says a lot about his character.

In Benning I trust.
Shrewd.
The next two seasons (and off seasons) will show us all what this franchise is made of.

If only those 6 victims had guns this all would have been avoided. Silly country.
Good to see the majority of the content of this thread is about mental health and not banning knives.

Would be considered a lateral move but maybe both players would enjoy a change of scenery? Comparable cap hits/age, so that's a wash as well.
MTL would get bigger so that would be the pitch, I imagine.
To VAN: Artturi Lehkonen
To MTL: Jake Virtanen

I don’t know who I hate more, the Canucks, Benning, Green, or the Leafs.
If there were a "Milk" upvote for this.
I'd be tempted.

Was watching a few NHL Network videos today to get myself psyched for tonight's upcoming games. Happened across the Nate Schmidt interview discussing his trade to Vancouver, etc. and this green screen struck me as odd. That is absolutely NOT Roger Neilson. How does this even happen?
Pretty slick troll job...by the NHL no less.

Probably already been posted but, in case it hasn't.
If you're into music, this is an amazing channel (example):

Is he really wearing McDavids number?
McMefirst wears Thornton's international number.

He can still play a reasonably heavy game, from what I've seen.
His size will make him strong along the boards and he's never really been much of a checker. Hasn't really been a shot blocker either. Doesn't kill penalties.
He'll glove punch the opposition's goalie though!

Who's taking the slap shot? Are we talking weber? Or stretcher lol?
Asking the real question here.

Makes sense to me. The cap hit is almost nothing, and he brings some more size and grit to their lineup which they so badly need. I think he will do alright there.
Grit? Size for sure but his "grit" is gone.

I just can’t see it working well in the locker room. Big Joe will feel he needs to be a leader, while so do all the overpaid Buds. Who will be the followers? And who will actually get in the corners and go after the puck?
Too many Chiefs.

Wow. I really think the Leafs have done really well. They have so many of these reclamation projects for dirt cheap. At least one of them will be a hit.
Low risk versus high reward.
Simmonds - 1.5M
Thornton - 700K
Spezza - 700K
Bogosian - 1M
Add Brodie, a good defenceman.
I like the moves.
Their defense is marginally improved.
This is not a position which needed to be addressed in Toronto...but obviously Dubas knows how to allocate cap space.

I guess adding Barrie and Turris really tipped the scales for the Oilers. Even though they needed upgrades in net and on the back end.
And Winnipeg’s re-acquisition of 34 year old Statsny somehow equals more success next season.
Funny how I didn’t see the media hype Markstrom or Tanev much until it looked like they might leave. Now they’re both players we couldnt possibly replace. Go figure.
I suppose this makes the Canucks underdogs then?
Perfect. Lowers the expectations and shocks the pundits (TSN et al.) when they're successful.

Nobody cares or asked them what they think. Opinions are like...well, you know the rest.
For example: I believe those teams are jealous of the management team and what's been built here by that group.

It should be noted that when Trotz left for Long Island he took Mitch Korn with him.
Maybe an outlier but that 1-2 years of "decline" falls right into this timeline.

While I would like an "all canadian division"....think of the additional travel.
I'm going to guess there will be two bubbles (Edmonton/Toronto) and teams would probably play a "series" vs. the other Divisions teams to make up at least a 48 game schedule. Vancouver flies to Toronto and plays 3/4/5/6(?) games against each of Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa then flies back to Edmonton. Repeat with other Western teams. Once those trips are done the Eastern teams make their trips.
Just spitballing here.
