  1. I agree, but Tocchet system made it easy for a lot of the Canucks to do their roles. Juulsen, Wolainin, Brisbois all looked better than OEL, although we found out he was playing hurt with 1 foot. Their original plan was probably to see how OEL does, but the cap situation made them pull the trigger sooner.
  2. Wallinder plays closer to tanev to me than Simashev. Simashev reminds me of zadorov, but higher potential since zadorovs on ice iq seems low...
  3. Every team has good players, it's the decision of a gm to decide who to keep and who to trade for maximum value to further strengthen the team. I believe sakic did just that and turned his team around once he took over. Not just for short term, but long term and already won the cup. The Canucks have Demko, Hughes, Petey, horvat, etc. Do you think alvin or even the fanbase have the balls to trade some of them for max value and capitalizing on the returns they get from them and turning this team into a long term contender? Highly doubt it. We'd want to keep most of the core and hope to find players to compliment them.
  4. Nah, Karlsson showed that he's decent enough to fill in when there are injuries. Boeser/Mikheyev are currently out, so he's filling in. The dude needs to work on his skating to make the NHL permanently imo. He will most likely be in the ahl developing when everyone is healthy. Aman on the other hand, impressed. He looked like he needed time to adjust to the NHL, but after couple of preseason games and practices, he learned and adapted very quickly. Bruce pencilled him in as 4c and has been delivering the entire time, making smart plays away from the puck and skating very well. He has been anchoring Joshua and Lazar, and severely outplayed Dickinson. The 4th line identity seems like physical, hard to play against, without being a huge defensive reliability. Myers is out for 2 to 4 weeks, and with dermott concussed, adding stillman is just an insurance on the lhd. It's already frail as is.
  5. What... Trading Duchene and trusting Mackinnon is one of the best ballsy and genius move ever made by a GM. Everyone at the time thought sakic made a rookie gm mistake or was just insane. Everyone never doubt him after that. This was their top 10 prospects https://www.nhl.com/avalanche/news/30in30-2014-pick-bleackley-heads-avalanche-top-10-prospects/c-728470 Sakic also traded away ror, Barrie etc. He had a rebuild plan, and stuck with it, built his team through draft and trade. None of the half assing stuff the Canucks did the past decade. I find it more impressive that you don't think what sakic did was impressive.
  6. Itll be about the same if not more, with Timmy centering him. A bridge deal would be shooting themselves in the foot imo.
  7. If they were drinking to Kool aid, they'd be paying them 10+ mil instead of 8. Yes, potentially Stoots should get better than Brady. He had 29pts in 50ish games in his debut, then 58pts last season. Brady's debut season had 45pts in 70ish games, and again 44 in 70ish in his 2nd season. He started to do better on his 3rd year. Stoots have yet to play his 3rd season, and will most likely to beat his 58pts if he stays healthy. Stoots will be the type to get more pts while Tkachuk is one of those solid wingers with peripherals.
  8. I don't think you guys watch Timmy play. Reading up on hockeydb to find out how much pts he made and comparing it to Miller, gagner, etc. Makes no sense at all. It's like another team fan saying Petey is an overpayment for signing the bridge deal cuz he has a career high of 68pts. Obviously if they watched him play, they could see that he has potential to become a 90+pt player if he stays healthy. Put it this way, Petey got a season in shl to develop and dominated before coming over to the NHL and got 66pts in his debut season. He's been pretty consistent around there during his 3 yr elc. He signed a bridge deal, and could potentially score more than 80pts during this contract and it'll cost the Canucks way more when they wanna lock him up for 8 yrs and when they do, he will be like 33. Tim went straight into the NHL as a 19yr old and got 29pts in 50ish games. He doubled it the following year. He's still on his elc for 1 more year to break his career high 58pts which is very possible with the recent additions and the core they locked up. He's only 20yrs old. By the time he starts his 8yr deal, he will be 22, and locked up til 30. It's a very good gamble.
  9. They would've 3peat if they traded tyjo instead of Miller at the time imo. Stammer, point and Miller damn
  10. Definitely false. Every task Nolan had with the team, he failed in my opinion. At first he was in charge of the defense, and he allowed almost 40sog on average. Idc if his system was to force other teams to shoot low chance shots from the outside, the fact that the team allowed free entry and shots isnt ideal even if it's free saves for Demko or Marky. All for the reason to rely on some luck that it bounces to go the other way for a rush down the other way, the trade off wasn't worth it. As soon as Shaw took over, it was night and day difference. Which isn't surprising since he's known to be one of the best defensive coaches in the NHL for awhile now. Sucks we lost him. Once Nolan took over the pk role, it was one of the worst in NHL history and costed us a lot of games early on. Basically everything he touched, it was a mess. After walker/Boudreau took over, it got much, much better despite having the same roster. Making changes and trusting Hughes and Petey to pk.
  11. If horvat is signing 8yrs, I think it'll be closer to 6m range.
  12. I disagree, also not trying to be negative towards Lundqvist, just stating as is. He got surpassed by 2 younger players, Schneider and recently Zac Jones, who is pretty much a similar player as Lundqvist but on the left hand side and better. Idk where you get the notion that he has a high chance of being a top 4 dman in the NHL and a sure 3rd pairing dman in the NHL after being outplayed by both Schneider and Jones as 3rd pairing. He is also not too good for the ahl. I think you literally described Rathbone though.
  13. 50% retained is 3.5m for a top 4 d, if not 1st pairing. Add RHD scarcity. They'll be fine. It's free asset to flip.
  14. Great trade for both sides. For Calgary, they get huberdeau and weegar, still won't make up for the loss of gaudreau and Tkachuk but its as good as it gets, considering the returns other teams have been getting. The risk is that they are potentially expensive rentals and they havent signed an extension with the flames. Brad had to do this move because Calgary has a window, and he obviously decided to take the risk and go for it rather than rebuilding again. Highly doubt Brad will trade em if he finds out they're not gonna extend cuz they'll most likely still be in playoffs and offers for these rentals will be limited to contenders that still have future to trade. Otherwise he would've went with rebuild package for Tkachuk. For Florida, they get Tkachuk for 8 years instead of 7. He is locked up with barkov. He is also only 25, so they're literally getting 7 UFA best years out of him. Weegar seemed like he wasn't gonna sign and wanted too much money anyway. Huberdeau expected to extend but would've been costly, and obviously spending that money on 5 yr younger forward with tangibles is the better choice. Personally Florida is set up better for this trade, even though initially it looks like they got robbed. However I think it's still calgary taking the bigger risk.
  15. Underrated signing, I remember him rocking reeves. Him, Lazar and Lockwood make a nice sandpaper 4th line.
