n00bxQb
Well, after Oct 1st. They can be buried in the pre-season without clearing waivers. However, the NHL does have (I believe it's a) 10% (~7m) allowance during the off-season where teams can go over cap. As far as being under cap, well, a lot of us are moving people who are under AHL contracts and are prospects, because that's how you build your future, but many people are projecting to have 4-6 AHLers on their opening day rosters. I imagine those, and the subsequent cap space, will get filled through FA signings. So, the cap situation will work itself out.
n00bxQb
how long do we have to make all the trades in the game? I assume it starts in pre season so you don't have to be cap compliant until the season starts.
coleman26
And we'll go a month into the game before we can even make the trades we've done because of that ...
mpt
Not true. Wade Redden has only been placed on waivers once (September 25, 2010) as was Huet (same day). As per section 13 of the CBA, a club can make a demotion to the minors permanent by informing the player and the league within 56 days of clearing waivers. Such players would not be subject to waivers after training camp unless they make the team, in which case re-entry waivers would apply.
Tangelos
It starts at the beginning of the regular season (at least it did when I played it in mid-July)
n00bxQb
? Sorry, I don't understand. If Trav is setting the rosters using his Commish Powers on day one, then we all enter into the pre-season knowing our cap situation. I can't imagine we won't get an FA period, even if it's just the 2 week preseason, to negotiate our FA signings and to finalize who is going to be in the NHL and who is getting buried, Wade Redden style
n00bxQb
Oh then my boy trav is going to have to customize the teams before we start. Is that even possible.
Tangelos
GM Connected doesn't allow for custom rosters and the commish can't force trades through on day one, they can only be sent to him for approval. The game starts on day 1 of the regular season, so no pre-season (again, as of mid-July. May change for launch). FA signings and trades don't occur until the GM advances an interval, which will likely be a 2-week interval given that it's a sim league. This means everyone is stuck with their default rosters for the first 2 weeks. Many of the trades can't be made in the first interval because it will put at least one of the teams below the cap, thus the game won't allow it and it'll never even get to Trav. We'll have to wait for those teams to sign free agents first. Here's where it'll become a nightmare: The below floor teams will need to sign free agents and the free agents go to the highest bidder. Odds are a lot of these teams are going to put bids in on the best players, which means a lot of teams still won't be able to make their trades even after 4 weeks of game time as only a few teams will land the big names left. We'll have to do another 2-week interval before those teams can make trades. First 2 weeks default roster Can make trades and bid on FAs in first 2 weeks, but the transactions won't take place until the interval is advanced
VanIslander89
Turn cap off and run our own cap outside of the game? Would that make a difference in any of this? Just a thought
coleman26
Ok but what determines the intervals? Why can't we all submit the trades on days one, two and three, have trav approve them then start the season? Doesn't trav determine the intervals on an ongoing basis? I find it very hard to believe that they've made a system whereby it's impossible to trade without days and days having to pass.
n00bxQb
I messaged EA for confirmation that the GMC leagues start in the reg season and not the pre-season. I wouldn't get my hopes up, though.
mpt
The thing is, for the most part when trades are approved we have been trying to make sure they are cap compliant for the floor and ceiling. If we do them in the same order as they occurred we should be ok. Otherwise there will be a lot of teams needing to take on cap dumps in trades. It will be fine, we'll deal with it when it happens. coleman26
Also, if the first roster update won't be out for a week or two, we have time to run a sim and troubleshoot the league. We'll make do.

coleman26
Also, should be noted, 8 teams are under the cap floor already, so if EA doesn't have a system in place here, then the entire game is going to be worthless. I can't imagine they won't be prepared.

coleman26
boo to this Much to the dismay of hardcore franchise guys, the NHL Entry Draft is automated. You can still scout players during the season and build a priority list of prospects. Once the draft starts, however, the CPU will use your priority list to make selections for your team.
