NHL Re-alignment 2012-3

My ideas on what the NHL are going to do with re-alignment have been mentioned a few times before but the most logical and the least tl;dr way to show you what I think is with pretty pictures. As such, meet the new NHL in map form! towel.gif

Of course, the whole thing is an experiment by the board to see if they'll need to move certain teams (Florida, Columbus, Phoenix...) so expect another re-alignment in 2015.

These divisions look very good and I would much rather 6 divisions then the 4 that the NHL is talking about. But, I think that some rivalries have to be kept in place (PIT/PHI). Also, Buffalo would be in the East so I don't know how that would work out.

I have a feeling though that we are going to see four divisions. Not so much for alignment, but to expand the playoffs (and playoff revenue along with it).

I'm not advocating this as I like that only 16 teams out of 30 make it, but it wouldn't surprise me to see that expand to 20. If you had four divisions, the top three teams could be in and the 4th and 5th place teams could have a short series (best of 3? or 5?) to see who gets into the main round.
