Phew!

Unsung Hero

Well that was a little close for my liking but it's the results that count.

I can't help but feel sorry for Pat Quinn and the Oilers, but I can wait until their next game to see them end their losing streak.

The Canucks were looking pretty ordinary but there were some good individual performances. Edler stepped up his game nicely. I also want to give kudos to Sami Salo, not just for his clutch goal tonight but for his player over the last 2 months. The real improvement in Vancouver's play has been the improvement in their defense. And Sami Salo's return and resurgence has been a big part of that improvement.

Kyle Wellwood actually impressed me tonight. Even his offensive zone penalty was a good sign to me -- it's nice to see him determined enough to actually take a penalty for a change. Wellwood was supposed to be out of the lineup until Rypien came down with the flu. The fact that he appeared to have responded to the demotion shows a small glimmer of hope tonight.

My Unsung Hero tonight was Mason Raymond. He didn't make it onto the scoresheet but he was flying tonight and again showing some physical play. His hustle and speed drew the OT penalty which set up Daniel's goal. Mason will be back on the scoresheet soon if he keeps playing like that.

So, did the penalty calls against the Oilers late in the game make up for the calls against the Canucks in last week's Nashville game? At least bad reffing goes both ways.
