Breaking Down the Burkie Deals

You've gotta love how Burkie can make a splash. For what it's worth, I don't think the Leafs' collapse against the 'Nucks had anything to do with these deals. Burke said the deals were being worked on before yesterday. Whether Burke will admit it publicly or not, his club's season is a write-off and you don't make major deals like these as a result of a bad game that everyone will have forgotten about in short order. If the Leafs went on to cruise to a 3-0 win last night, Burke would still be ma

Phew!

Well that was a little close for my liking but it's the results that count. I can't help but feel sorry for Pat Quinn and the Oilers, but I can wait until their next game to see them end their losing streak. The Canucks were looking pretty ordinary but there were some good individual performances. Edler stepped up his game nicely. I also want to give kudos to Sami Salo, not just for his clutch goal tonight but for his player over the last 2 months. The real improvement in Vancouver's play

Ending the Skid against Sid

I think the Canucks should lobby harder for a more-balanced schedule. We need more of these good East conference teams coming into Vancouver at the end of their road trips and stinking out the joint. Obviously the Crosby's, Malkin's and Ovechkin's of the league also need to make several trips out here before they do anything impressive in front of the Canuck faithful. Who would've thought a visit from the defending Stanley Cup champions would be just what the doctor ordered to end the Canucks

My two cents (or more) on the Burrows-Auger controversy

I don't blog after every game but I was planning to submit something about the Nashville game -- until I watched it. By the end of the game, I was so disillusioned and disgusted I couldn't bring myself to say anything about it -- and that was before I became aware of the bomb that Burrows dropped. The game sucked and I would've been of that opinion even if the Canucks had won, though admittedly I would've been slightly less annoyed. It sucked because there was a stretch in the second period w

Burrrr! Hot out there tonight!

It may be a good thing for Team Canada that Alex Burrows was not born in Sweden. What amazing chemistry he has with the twins! He complements Daniel and Henrik, so well. Just imagine if Vigneault never had the epiphany that led him to put Burr with the twins. Although the way AV has juggled lines in the past, I guess he was bound to put them together at some point (which reminds me, AV sure doesn't juggle like he used to -- but why would he do that now?) Hat tricks in consecutive games is pretty

'Twas three nights before Christmas...

...and all through the Garage, not a Predator was stirring, not even Marcel Goc... There were several UH candidates, which was nice. I'm tempted to pick Wellwood who made a nice play on the opening goal and was more noticeable than he's been almost all season -- I actually saw some battle in his game tonight. But if I picked Kyle it would be based on low expectations (or no expectations), as much as anything else. I also liked Burrows again tonight. On top of his usual aggressive, gritty play

No Place Like Home!

My Unsung Hero of the game is, once again, Alex Burrows. He wasn't in on any of the scoring but he was clutch at a potentially pivotal point in the game. In the latter part of the 1st period, the Canucks were down two men short for about 45 seconds. The first PK unit was Kesler-Mitchell-Burrows who usually get the nod to defend a 5-on-3. Burrows made two extra-effort plays to get the puck out of the zone and thwart the Kings' opportunity to tie up the game. It was 1-0 at the time and the soon af

Taming the Wild

This was a hard one to pick an unsung hero for. The Wild actually outplayed the 'Nucks in most facets of the game tonight -- especially faceoffs. But having a clutch goaltender is allowed and this game was what it means to have a goalie steal the game. It wasn't a shutout and it wasn't Luongo's best game of the season but there were many big saves that had he not made them, the Canucks would've been on the losing end of this one. Though heroic, Luongo's performance wasn't unsung. My Unsung H

Hurricanes 5 Canucks 3

I'm new at this, so bear with me and feel free to pull your punches at first. My objective with this blog is to share observations, opinions and thoughts on the Canucks that you might not get elsewhere. I'll try to point out that unnoticed play in the game that ended up pivotal or significant. I'll try to recognize the 'Nucks that are quietly contributing, improving their game or perhaps getting away with things they shouldn't. I'll also name an Unsung Hero for every game. That may be the player
