Canucks 6 - 3 Red Wings F - Game 63 - 03.03.10

A day after defeating the Blue Jackets in overtime, The Canucks made their way into Detroit to faceoff against the Red Wings.

Roberto Luongo was set to make his NHL return after leading team Canada to the gold medal in less than a week ago in Vancouver.

The Canucks came prepared and they got on board quick as Ryan Kesler power moved his way to the front of the net and scored to make it 1-0 for Vancouver.

The Red Wings responded back when Jason Williams blasted the puck by a screened Luongo to even the score at one.

It turned out that the twins and Alex Burrows had an quick answer of their own. Alex Burrows tipped in the puck over Jimmy Howard to put the Canucks ahead by one.

Vancouver went into the first intermission with a one goal lead and plenty of confidence to start the second period.

Period number two didn't start so well for the Canucks. Henrik Zetterberg showed off his skills and scored the 2-2 goal for Detroit.

The Red Wings gave up a rare breakaway opportunity and Kyle Wellwood made them pay as he chipped the puck by Howard.

Minutes later, Sami Salo's point shot found it's way to the back of the net for the 4-2 Canucks lead.

Detroit's coach Mike Babcock decided that he had seen enough and he sent in Chris Osgood to replace Howard.

The goalie switch didn't help the Red Wings cause. Former Red Wing Mikael Samuelsson sniped one past Osgood to make it 5-2 for the Canucks.

Ryan Kesler had one heck of a game and he contributed again as he tipped in the sixth goal for his club.

Johan Franzen ended up scoring Detroit's third goal late in the third period.

Another impressive victory for the Canucks on the road. Vancouver is now two games over .500 on this massive 14 game road trip.

Up next for the Canucks are their arch enemies, the Chicago Blackhawks.

These two team will clash again for the final time this season. After Ryan Kesler's comments prior to the January 22nd game, this one won't be pretty.

Canucks Vs Blackhawks is scheduled for Friday at 5:30pm PST and it can be seen on Rogers Sportsnet.

We need to work these into our post-game coverage. I will talk to the team about it tomorrow.
