  1. I guess no one saw Craig Button's TSN draft list show then? Dale Tallon was on there and he said what he wanted. A good young player who can play now, a pick, and another good young player. So...not keen on the veterans. That sounds like Tanev, a top end prospect and a pick. Not worth it. Especially since Button also outlined how Reinhart could drop to 4th, which is quite possible, when you look at it.

Let's talk to Edmonton. Get their pick instead.

  2. Would still suck to lose someone who can do this:

Reinhart better be worth all the effort, esp. if Draisaitl/ Dal Colle/ Ehlers/ Nylander aren't all that different in terms of skill upside. I wouldn't mind taking Leon or Michael at the 6 if they fall that far.

Fu(k, look at the joy and excitement in his eyes there!!! That youthful exuberance would help towards making it great for the team to come to the rink every day. This is what I see. Past the skill and and the energy, he's always smiling, always grateful for what he has, yet understands how good he is. I want this kid on the team!!! It needs more of this attitude. Not the same dogmatic attitude spouted off from every player you normally see since the dawn of time!!!

  3. and you would actually take this deal if you are Edmonton? Really? Seriously?

you are just making up reasons to convince yourself that Edmonton would want that ridiciulous offer. If anything they would want to trade up for Ekblad, NOT trade down for Tanve and a 6th which would probably turn into a defenseman who is ranked 9th in the North America pool.

Well if they trade up for #1, that's what they do. Their biggest need is defense, center, and veterans. Of course they want Ekblad. They need Ekblad. Hell, they need Reinhart, Draisaitl, or Bennett as well. They won't win games without a good defense though. That's their start. Tanev would help with that. Fleury would help with that eventually, and Gaunce is a big center who is NHL ready. More ready than Horvat, actually. Has an NHL shot, his defensive play is something the Oilers sorely need. He will eventually be a second line center in the ilk of a Mike Fisher and he's ready now. Not in a year or two. THAT is a fair trade. As fair as any!
  4. because our GM obviously see something in Reinhart? would totally lose the point to trade up if you can't end up with Reinhart.

Besides, the 3rd overall pick will turn out to be more expensive than trading for a first because of inter-division trade. O what you actually think we can actually get a 3rd from the oiler without giving up one of our blue chipped prospect??

Think people, think! You actually think Edmonton want to trade down for Ballard raymond and a 6th?

No. Try Tanev, Gaunce, and 6th overall. They need a big center who's close to NHL ready, they would get one defenseman and draft another. Fills all their needs. Pretty much perfect. Either way, any one of those 3 guys are on my radar. If we can get either of them, we take it.
  5. I'm gonna say Benning pulls the trigger on a Kesler trade tomorrow to allow himself time to get his new assests in order for the draft. This assumption is based on nothing and I will not defend it if challenged; However, if I'm right, I'll totally boast about how smart and well connected I am.

Bah, we all kind of know that would be coming anyhow. JB needs to get on the draft floor and have a chat with these guys. Thursday at the latest.
  6. not against this trade... it actually make sense...

You got to give up talent to get talent... Hunter may turn into an exciting player in the future, but the team need a someone like Reinhart to lead the team when the Sedins era is over.

Once Reinhart merge into the team, we will forget how tough it was to lose Hunter..

Then why not trade for #3 and not lose Hunter instead? From the sounds of things, Reinhart, Bennett, and Draisaitl are basically a coin flip
  7. Fully believe it... he held out last year for more money.

He is a great player only at a certain dollar value. He is not worth near what our other top guys are making yet, but probably wants that neighbourhood. For more than $3.5 per, I am more than happy to see him go and have his ice time go to someone else.

Actually, I wouldn't go above 2.7. That is what Nick Leddy is making and with all due respect to Tanev, he's better.
  8. As I said way earlier in the Tallon thread, if we can't get #1, trading for #3 with Edmonton has alot of merit. Especially if we land the #10 in a Kesler trade. They need a defenseman. If they come knocking, they can get one of ours and our pick, then draft Haydn Fleury. The fact is they need defense now!! Could they use a center, sure. Unless they pick Draisaitl, he will be a year away. Bennett and Reinhart could grow a bit.

  9. 1 superstar>>>two average 2nd/3rd liners

Everyone is hyped about Shinkaruk, but the reality is he`s not the slam dunk 40 goal scorer everyone thinks he`ll be. Based on odds, he won`t be a Parise or Kessel.

So Benning has to weigh the risks. Do we go for a more sure star player, or bank on Shinkaruk and whoever we get at 6 panning out? It's a gamble for sure. but one that could really go either way. I'm okay with bold moves when they work out though.

Call me crazy, but honestly, based on attitude alone, I am sure he will be nipping at that 40 goal mark sometime in his career. And I believe he will hit it. That point about the 40 goal scorers though. That hits home. Only 33 since 2005 and Kesler's one of them.
  10. I love Shinkaruk as a player and potential star, but to put it into better perspective look at it from this stand point maybe. What if each of the players involved reach full potential, and who can we compare them to in the trade.

Reinhart(Toews/Tavares) for Shinkaruk(Gaborik), Hansen, 6th(who knows but lets say Ehlers = Nyquist)

Would you be content with getting Tavares for Gaborik, Hansen, and Nyquist?

I highly doubt Tanev will be involved as well.

considering the 2013 draft is compared and will be compared for years to come with the 2003 draft, I look at trading either Horvat or Shinkaruk to trading Mike Richards or Jeff Carter before they got a chance to really show their stuff at the NHL level. They were both drafted in '03 by Phili and they both turned out to be great players. I just can't see losing either of them. Like I said before "anybody else off the team". Just not them. And yes, I do include the Sedins, though however unlikely and impractical it would be
  11. I don't know, that's a lot to move up 5 spots in a draft where not many people are ranking a significant top end talent. I wonder if there's truth to this whether Benning is going through our prospect pool and looking at players he's had reservations on in the past. Maybe that's why we'd see Shink included in this deal.

One thing I was wondering about the quality of this draft since I mentioned it, is I wonder if there's less media hype for Reinhart because he's in the WHL. Most of the significantly hyped players are OHL or QMJHL, and we've all talked about Eastern media bias in the past. There was Jones last year from Portland but the hype for MacKinnon and McDavid (not to mention Stamkos, Tavares, etc.) seems to have been much bigger than for Reinhart and some people have looked closer at it and feel he's comparable.

Again, this is all a bit hard to tell with Benning being so new and we don't know what his MO is, but maybe he's got some insight (for either end).

Nuge was still the favourite at the 2011 draft though and he played For Red Deer.
  12. Benning is an astute guy, he realizes how shallow our prospect depth is. I think he would only make a trade like this if he was sure he could replace that talent via draft pick or trade. I think we would all be ok with losing Shinkaruk as a winger, if Benning had a trade lined up for a top end winger. For example if he had a deal with Detroit to bring Mantha here in a Kesler trade.

Reinhart + Mantha > Shinkaruk + Roster player ... IMO

Then why wouldn't you do that trade 1st? Keep in mind Shink almost beat out Mantha on the world Junior roster on one leg....
  13. Higgins wouldn't of replaced Torres on that line. Torres-Malhottra-Hansen played great that year and they meshed together. AV wouldn't of been dumb enough to break up that line

I agree. AV wouldn't have broken up that line and yes, we needed to be 4 lines deep. I still believe Higgins was brought in because Raymond was oh so shaky and for depth. Then injuries came along and changed his role. But yes, he started on that line. I think the point that was trying to be made in all this was nobody really expected Higgins to stay in the 4th line role for very long. I knew the moment he was acquired from Florida that he would eventually slot in beside Kes. The makeshift 3rd line was a bit of a surprise, but it was to everyone.
  14. Injuries and suspensions happened. A healthy Torres-Malhottra-Hansen line would be the 3rd line

You don't even have Torres in that lineup...

Would have been. Higgins was brought in for the playoffs, yes? And if you didn't notice, I added Torres cuz I realized I forgot him. Still doesn't change the fact Higgy was better than Torres and Glass. He started on the 4th line because he was getting over a thumb injury, himself.
  15. Make sure to tell that to Provost because he is convinced that Higgins was brought in to be a 4th liner.

Oh, make no mistake. He started there for a couple games. Some injuries happened. Higgins contributed and moved up pretty quickly.

And I had to edit the above because I forgot Torres was still on the team. Higgins is better than Glass and Torres though, so end of story there.

  16. 1. Coach hiring

    2. Kesler trade

    3. Draft day - possibly moving up

is probably the sequence of the Canucks' moves. WD on Monday, hopefully Kesler in the next couple days following so that Benning has time to assess the assets he acquired via Kesler trade to possibly move up the draft to get Reinhart.

Kesler to Anaheim in a package which includes the 10th overall. We use the 10th, Tanev, and our 6th for #1. Edmonton leaves the draft sad because they don't get either of the top 2 defensemen. Just to troll Edmonton?"!!!! Hahaha
  17. O look i found another Ehlers fan. Do you guys every quit?

I can feel you scathing sarcasm from here. Ehlers has exciting speed that can get fans out of their seats AND I don't expect him to make the team next year, unless he surprises out of camp. I really hope the wing spot doesn't get filled out and to let Shink, Jensen, and Ehlers battle it out. We need that speed. The team is old and slow. Making teams like LA and San Jose's D turn because they are getting beat by speed is what the teams needs. This guy will fill out. There are small guys in the league. As long as they are wingers, I am cool with the somehow apparent "lack" of size.
  18. Just had a thought pertaining to this Kesler trade. I was thinking what if we packaged him with Corrado and a midround pick and got back Saad, Teravainen, Oduya, and their 1st round pick. They need to alleviate some capspace on their back end and Corrado allows them to do that. They also fill a hole at 2nd line center with Kesler, which is bigger than the hole they make with Saad. Plus it gives us a chance to move Tanev in way that allows the team to move up in the draft. Both of those Hawk defensemen are better than Tanev.

  19. I predict a subtle change to the lineup after this. Depending on what we get back from the Kes trade. No center in the trade, David Legwand signing, then let the youth fill out what's left of the lineup. Also maybe get a 1a 1b goalie. Draft Ehlers because this team NEEDS SPEED, and let him and Shinkaruk battle it out for a top 6 spot.
