Gaunce has been the Comets best player since coming back down.  He plays a complete 200 foot game and looks every bit of a NHL player in the AHL. He looks very much like a player that has been playing the game at a higher pace and the speed of the AHL is very slow for him.  I can't say enough good things about him.

If you're saying his speed is better than the AHL, do you think he's now an NHL skater? He seemed to know where he wanted to be, but couldn't quite get there when he got ice time with the Canucks. I like him as a player too, pretty smart when he doesn't have the puck, and decent on the wall. That's one spot the Canuck forwards are more than a little less than average, playing on the wall. How does McEwan fare on the boards?

Every time ive seen Rathbone he’s impressed me....but I’ve only seen him play a small handful of times...he’s also a great skater...not Quinn awesome but still really good. I can’t wait to see how he turns out....he maybe Canucks hiden Gem......or maybe not.

I wonder when we’ll see him at Canucks training camp. Hopefully next camp and preseason. I’m not sure how long he’s in college for.  Also I guess he’s not signed either. Will he sign before its to late.

He played in the young Canuck tournament against the Jets young players if I'm not mistaken. He raised more than a few eyebrows.

Its well to remember that the Bruins were a long-time basement team before Orr graduated and revolutionized how defenders played the game.  In a different hockey culture era with smaller players, less speed and emphasis on individual performance, an organization desperate to make the play-offs were happy to give Orr his free reign.  Any smart coach at the time would have adjusted team tactics to cover Orr's roving and best utilize his talent.

Nor sure I see that possible in today's NHL, given Travis' hard school of dump-and-chase 200-foot hockey.  How long I wonder, before the natural percentage of Hughes' failed entries or lost possession would wear thin with Green's philosophy?  Or, his personal coaching ego; perhaps job security.  Hughes is already a confident, established college star, and it could be he decides Canuck's brand won't suit his own ego and he sits it out.  Where Jack ends up, or agents worming their financial flattery inside Quin's head, might easily cause him blink.

I'll not be at all surprised if Hughes' best asset to us lies in a trade for pieces Green views as more urgent.  We just don't presently have enough collective, on-ice hockey IQ to help Quinn become another Bobby Orr.  Green seems dead set against allowing players free expression - Alien is a generational exception and forces Green's hand, a bit Orr-like himself in fact.  But for Travis perhaps, one-yute-at-a-time bucking his beloved, safety-first system is almost more than he cares to handle.

A decent prospect like Rathbone could well develop better than Hughes, if only because as a more orthodox defender, he'd be less likely to be in Green's doghouse thereby receiving more ice-time and favorable coaching.  He wouldn't be having his natural strengths continually coached away, which is what I would fear for Hughes.  Yet, he'd be a fabulous protected addition right now on an established defence like the Preds, maybe even tip the creative balance their way.

Wonder what they'd trade for Hughes?

That is not the hockey the Canucks are playing, AT ALL. This team has become more of a rush offense than the AV days IMO.

we did fine without Sutter  for almost half this season, in fact isn't he injured every season. also, since he has been back haven't we been losing!  sometimes players come back and they screw up the lineup. . we could do fine without Sutter, we have Beagle and  Horvat.  and there was everything wrong with what Sutter said. I mean where was he during last nights game

I disagree, Horvat is looking dead tired on the ice, and that's with Beagle back in the lineup. He's still taking the majority of the faceoffs, in the defensive zone, as well as the offensive zone. Give Sutter some game time, if I'm not mistaken, he won the majority of the f/o's in the period and a half that I watched. He's played TWO games, and you folks want a 100 point player.....

  5. As all of us have said, this schedule has been brutal. This is the third?, road trip East, to play 6 games, usually a back to back, and an afternoon game mixed in. When the other teams catch up with games played, we'll have a good idea as to where they are trending, playoffs, bubble, or completely out of it.

The five day break after this Leafs game could not be timed any better for both him and Pettersson, honestly.

..and Markstrom, if this team is going anywhere, I trust him more than Demko at this point of their careers.

I don't think that should be too surprising really. Boeser is a really talented player, but he doesn't drive offense. He's an excellent second piece to a duo, but he's not a creator on his own. Horvat is the only other guy on the roster who can really create, and he wasn't having the best of games. We still need somebody else in the top six who can make things happen, rather than just being a finisher. I think the team is still hoping they can turn Goldobin into that guy.

Thankfully Sutter and Beagle are both healthy, Bo looks beat. He's played a ton of hockey in the last two and a half months, the dog days of winter. Hopefully the schedule will get him back on target. Just shows you, he's having a personal best year again. Just give him the "C", and get this thing going.

I am not a big Goldy fan. He is young and I want young guys to be given a chance.

However, he is one of the softest players I have ever seen. In the first period there was a scrum near Markstrom and Goldy pretended to just look down at the puck Markstrom had. He did not want to get involved at all even though the other players were all grabbing and pushing each other. I believe it occurred because 18 yr old Bennett took a bit of a run at EP so Guddy had a chat with the BOY.

I believe that most of Goldy's points were gifts from Pettersson.

I personally would love it if JB could get a different LW to sub in for Goldy. Use his EP points to trade him and get what you can.  This is not a decision based on one game. I have felt like this for awhile.

I want a LW that has at least some type of push back in them. Anything...

That's why I like Leivo on EP's wing

  9. Not to many teams have FOUR centers like the Canucks. What a huge difference Beagle has made to this team, with Sutter coming back, and barring injuries this team could move up the standings into the playoffs.

ah that. Its not legally binding, its just a statement. Its being overblown as a political thing but it has no legal teeth whatsoever.

    https://globalnews.ca/news/4731612/un-international-agreements-legally-binding/

The misinformation that Scheer is putting out on this is shameful imo. If you go to the actual document look at para 7 where it states its not legally binding on the signatories (https://refugeesmigrants.un.org/sites/default/files/180713_agreed_outcome_global_compact_for_migration.pdf).

It makes sense that countries would be starting to get organized and begin agreeing on how to deal with the waves of migration we'll likely be seeing for a long time to come.

Mini Harper, Scheer, had his former protege (Harper) tell him that he was spreading misinformation.

thats funny, you are seeing it as "race card" when people are just pointing out that you're factually wrong on a lot of these topics. I've never once called you a racist. You're the one seeing rebuttals through a race view.

Of course you can contest the issues, but if e.g., someone starts saying things like the influx of refugee claimants is overwhelming us or that these people will be on a lifetime of welfare or some such other bs then it needs to be called out and facts presented. People on here, I can't recall at the moment if it was you, were complaining about refugees getting dental care and how much that "cost" Canada. That sort of bunk needs to have some facts thrown at it, it has nothing to do with "race".

Like many in my own family, sadly! They're taking all our jobs, is heard a lot as well.

I find it funny that people are criticizing Bobby. He isn't the problem. You could have Gissuepe Marotta as the the CEO and they still wouldn't win because ownership won't invest in the team.

He's part of the problem, and I think one of the reasons why this team flounders like it does. Thankfully, and hopefully the South American experiment is over. When the League is critical of VWFC and their spending habits, that's all on ownership and management. Right now, they can do diddly squat about the turf and the stadium.

Interesting that while Boeser continues to round into form this year, his per game goal and assist production through his 20 games is almost identical to that he had through his 62 games last year.    Also interesting that to this point in this season, he now has 82 games in the NHL (no counting his speed dating session at the end of his last NCAA year).

IF you could tack on this 20 games this year, his 82 games are 38 goals and 34 assists.   Not too shabby for a 21 year old who has less than two full NHL seasons in the tank.   That, in today's NHL, is top tier production and one can see this only improving if he can continue to grow with either EP40 or Horvat.

I was too lazy to look that stuff up, but, very impressive indeed. In between two injuries, one being considered "major", and to be able to put up those numbers. I like how he is trending.

    Further proof of poor character.

You have proof of his character? He just might have his reasons for being happy to get out of this debacle. I'm waiting to see, just how much this management team puts back into high calibre players when the dust is settled. If NOT, the sooner that Lenarduzzi is gone, the better. They must think the fans of this city are blind to see what's going on.

    Just..no

Goldobin has just as much value as JV, both are young and putting up decent numbers, and Goldobin has faced a lot more skilled player match ups

In my opinion, he hasn't figured out the 200 foot game. Maybe that's not in his makeup, but, to stick around and gain the coaches and players trust, I believe he has to show far more when he doesn't have the puck. I see Jake out on the ice more than Goldobin when the game is on the line, as well, Jake has played all four lines so far on this team. Would you put Goldobin on the ice with less than a minute to go, when the Canucks are up a goal? Green wouldn't. As I've said before, points aren't the be all to end all.

I'm starting to think that we are getting a little spoiled with the rookie years of Boeser and Pettersson. Not all rookies are going to come up off the hop like our new stars but Goldy is still a rookie to me so he'll make his mistakes. He has improved steadily since we traded for him. He has worked hard and always had a smile on his face and from his goal celebrations loves to score goals. There is a lot to like in this kid. The fans were so patient for Virtanen and his rookie year was nothing like Goldobin's so why can't we afford him the same patience we gave Shotgun.

Patience???? Goldobin is in his fourth season, that smiley face isn't going to keep him in the NHL for long, once Dahlen, McKewen, Baertchi, and Sutter are ready to go. Gaudette is here to stay, as well. He can't play bottom 6, like Jake can either. I think management has some decisions to make with Goldy, and Schaller once everyone is up to speed.

  17. 51 minutes ago, Stormriders said:

Just finished watching the game, tape delayed and there was lots of things to like, but Schaller wasn't one of them.  I know it's been said before, but over a third of the way through the season and at the age of 28, this is it folks.

It's obvious JB again bought high, thinking last year was the start of him maybe being a bit of a late bloomer and a trend, but it is obvious now it was a temporary aberration.  He is an ok 4th liner with no offensive upside, that doesn't play the heavier tougher game he was touted for, and is not an improvement on players we already have.  JB gambled and got two of the three free agent signings right.

He is taking away the opportunity from other players we have in the system for no benefit to us.  He will be sitting a lot for the rest of the year once Gaudette returns.

    Not even a placeholder.

I too, said this as well. Does Benning have the will to waive him?

He seems to have the maturity to handle the Canuck situation but I agree that his TOI is not enough. The other consideration is his collegiate career where he played against bigger players than those from the CHL. I agree he probably goes down when Sutter returns (whenever that happens????)

Schaller might go before him when Sutter returns.

Motte is by far 1 of our best 4th liners . First in on fore check and always hits, and never gets penalized. If others on his line would keep up or go to the net maybe some of his hard work would convert in goals.

As someone said before, he, Beagle and Gaudette will make a great 4th line.
