Sentenced in 2019 to 8 years and he's out after 3? Our justice system is all messed up....why do we call it 8 years then? Let's keep it real here.

This is a slap in the face to the families who lost their children/loved ones. As they said, they're serving life sentences.

I do feel for the driver to some degree....it seems his employer also shares some guilt here.  But we're all responsible for our actions and this guy's wiped out a busload of kids....that's the reality here. The punishment doesn't fit the crime, even if it wasn't intentional.

I will say, trucks in general need to slow the hell down and take more care....we have dump trucks and recycling trucks just flying down the road here and it's a disaster waiting to happen. These drivers need to remember how long it takes them to stop in these vehicles.

Fully agree Deb!! Not only do they need to remember how long it takes to stop these vehicles, but they need to realize their carelessness can completely alter someone’s life, potentially forever!! Sadly I learned this just over a year ago.  Not from a trucker, but some jerk who wasn’t paying attention.  It’s been a very long road to recovery, and these idiots need to understand how much carnage they can cause another human!! Something needs to change for sure!!

I live at home still at 27 and pretty much am able to for the next while or so as I finish school. Even after 1st year of school is done I’ll probably be making 5-6k(working OT) a cheque with little commitments and lowish rent. Good time to start saving for a place.

Hopefully in 5ish years the housing market can begin to settle down a bit.

I work in a camp setting too so 2/3rds of the time I have everything paid for.

What’s in extremely high demand atm are Ironworkers in BC. Local 97 screaming for guys and you’re never out of work. They bring guys from the east coast to work here. The projects coming up soon will create even more. Gonna be a good next 10-15 years. I recommend if anyone knows anybody who wants a career path or something for themselves.

Congrats on school and getting close to the finish. We need more of you too!! Such a shortage of Ots at the moment!  The problem being is it’s not a quick fix.. you can have all tradespeople working in the field after a year of school.. you folks spend the better part of a decade so it’s not a quick fix. Good luck in the industry :)

I vape(trying to quit). Anytime I am at a cross-walk, outside a store door and etc I'll walk away from where foot traffic is. Especially kids. I take a step back and put myself in other shoes. I wouldn't want to breathe in unwanted vapor or have my kids do the same.

It is common courtesy and common sense. Nobody wants to breathe or have their family breathe in vapor or smoke.

The guy should have the book thrown at him.

Because you are a decent human being!! Sadly we are seeing less of these types lately :(

I was thinking about that the other day.
yeah, most of us didn’t get sick when we were all staying home and wearing a mask for a couple years, but did that possibly weaken immune systems as well?

Not being exposed to the regular germs we all did our entire lives, then two years later, when the regular old cold and flu (not covid) comes around it seems worse than ever.
Maybe isolation isn’t the right way to go about it (for many reasons).

When I was a kid, parents sent you to your friends house when they had the chicken pox.

When you were a kid Covid wasn’t running around. Yes our immune systems will take some time to reboot now that we are all out and about.  But it was a heck of a lot better than overwhelming an already overwhelmed healthcare system.

I know the energy of this thread and the now-locked Provorov thread is yesterday's news, but the off-topic forum is a much smaller audience, so... let's see what happens.  I have no interest in re-opening that Provorov debate, but it was interesting to see how it played out.  It was abundantly clear the discussion was going nowhere and getting personal.  I'm honestly surprised it didn't get locked sooner.  The two camps established themselves, and then you had a bunch of clueless, "everybody get along" folk without elaborating any way of achieving that.  As with most matters of social justice today, there really isn't any room left for a middle ground.  That type of solution satisfies nobody and just puts the issue on the backburner.

Personally, when I look at debates between popular thinkers (like the one posted above between Kasparian and Shapiro), I don't see any productive conversation.  Just a bunch of gentle back-and-forth with neither one actually engaging heavily with the other's arguments.  Kasparian's views are obviously much stronger on TYT, but Shapiro is literally two-faced when it comes to talking to liberals vs. talking to his own followers.  It's the echo chambers that bring out a person's true motives and beliefs.

I disagree with today's social conservatives on a factual and moral level.  While I may listen to an individual (in real life) to try and understand why/how they believe what they believe, I will always attempt to persuade them of my beliefs, because that's what I believe to be right.  I'm not going to agree to some half-baked middle ground and call it civil discourse.  You want discourse?  Lay down some facts, and then some more facts.  Make connections between those facts, and then do your best to interpret them.  That takes time and thought, which I've seen very little from right-wing thinkers.  This is going to sound incredibly arrogant, but when there's a problem in society, I try to understand why it's a problem and identify any underlying issues.  A conservative, without hesitation, will seek a quick and simple solution.  Where can one find civil discourse in such opposing views?

Great points. The trouble I’m seeing in trying to have discourse is the advent of “alternate facts”. Really hard to have discourse with some people when they supply “facts” That don’t follow the definition.

I feel like your concerns are displaced. It crossed over Alaska into the Yukon and was monitored then shot down.

I don't really see an issue here.

It’s political for Bouds unfortunately.  Peoples hate for Trudeau gets in the way of them seeing facts.  NORAD as a joint force.  Trudeau gave the order and NORAD took it from there. It’s a non issue really.

IMO as a country we should be embarrassed that our PM called the Americans to shoot this down. It is Canadian aircraft who should have done this in Canadian airspace. What message is Trudeau sending to the Chinese, the Russians and the Americans? It is a great thing that we are in Norad but cementing our junior position by this action should be unacceptable.

Unfortunately that’s not how NORAD works.  Not sure why you have to make this your opportunity to jump on Trudeau.  Not surprised at you doing it, it’s just not the time.

I like Tocchet already. Too many liberal softies around here.

I like Boudreau but it's not Tocchets fault he's walking into a hornets nest. People are looking for any reason not to like him, it's pathetic.

What does politics have to do with backing a coach?!?  Keep that stuff to the off topic white noise forums.

But really, you telling me these greedy #$%@'s can't reduce/eliminate interchange fees?

https://www.statista.com/statistics/580650/revenue-selected-banks-canada/#:~:text=Royal Bank of Canada (RBC,dollars in revenue in 2021.

This 100%.  Why are the CC companies passing on the cost of CC perks to the business that takes the CC payment?they are the ones with all the money!!

  12. 1 hour ago, King Heffy said:

It's a cost of doing business, just as cash also has its expenses with bank runs, theft, and wasted hours counting the stuff.  Losing business to businesses who treat their customers right and don't impose these kind of fees also effects the bottom line.

In most businesses costs are passed onto the customer, I can tell you that most companies won’t even tell you about the increase or even offer you a discount for paying cash. Not all small business are making enough profit to absorb all costs associated with doing business.

  13. 1 hour ago, Warhippy said:

I will pay cash now.  For almost everything.  I will set up potential cash based layaway programs with local businesses I utilize.  With fees etc from this as well as duties from banks and electronic fees I am paying almost $7 per transaction for every $100 spent.  BEFORE taxes.  Just for using a gd visa/MC/Debit

Literally no excuses for this in a digital age where your information is handled in seconds without human hands ever being needed.  No overhead needed no salaries etc.

This is pure greed and will amount to just more of the cost passed to the consumer no matter what

Hey Hip!  Long time no chat, I still avidly read but rarely log in these days.

just to put some perspective on this.  As a small business owner, we have been forced to pay for all these “extra points” folks receive from their CC companies.  If by greed you mean the CC companies offering all these “incentives”. To their customer as the greed I totally agree.  Why should a small business have to foot the bill for the card companies offering perks?!?  That’s should fall on the financial institution looking to gain the extra customers.

It might not seem like much but if a small business does 1 mil in business that is CC transactions.. that’s a lot of extra money to go towards the bottom line. Just my two cents :)

The guy seems like a class act, team player king of guy too. I can't wait to see him at the end of the season, because I bet we'll see him like BB last year.

Agreed excited to see this kid make the jump. I love his competitive edge he brings.. seems like one of those that really doesn't like to lose ala Kes.

Hmm... It's sort of sad to read things like this. Since you clearly have no clue about what type of coaches we have. Our physical headcoach has worked with superstars like Carolina Klüft and movie stars like Tom Cruise....

Lol cool the breeze bud.. you have no idea what I know for one.  For two maybe you miss the point of us not having the input while he's over there.  If he's here he is with OUR coaches OUR training staff.  Working on the things that the CANUCKS want him to work on.

Sorry if your feelers are hurt but you may want to grow a thicker skin.. these guys can be junkyard dogs at times :).

Of course he's not a hack and the AHL isn't some goon league, it's THE development league for the NHL.  In Utica he gets both.......he builds chemistry with a bunch of guys who will be Canucks teammates as opposed to one in Pettersson.  On top of that he learns how to play a North American game.  You might not think it's a lot different, but it is.  If he's serious about being an impact NHL player, Elias too, they need to get to NA as soon as they are able.

Don't forget we also have him a lot closer to home and can help with diet workouts etc.. I'm with him coming over as well.  Comes down to weighing the pros and while the SHL is a great option,  imo Utica holds more pros
