So you have a list of one, correct?

Regardless, individual players develop at different rates.

Different types of players do as well. I mean is anybody upset that Demko wasn't contributing at the NHL level at 18 because 'so many kids are contributing at the NHL level at 18'?

Of course not, because people are aware goalies tend to take longer to develop. Just like most power forwards.

I keep posting this... Anything he does in the NHL before he's about 23-24 is pure gravy. People shouldn't be expecting any significant contributions from him until then. That's 3+ years away folks. Patience.

Not to mention Anaheim had the luxury of sending nick to the AHL.  Something I think we can all agree would have benefited Jake greatly

“Nik apologizes when he takes a penalty,” Vancouver Canuck assistant coach Doug Lidster said Monday about Nikita Tryamkin. “So his whole life, he has probably been told not to take a penalty. We want him to be a little more physical and we want him to use his body.”

    ............

“I don’t know Chara and whether that came to him naturally or not,” Lidster said. “But Nik is a really nice guy. He’s not mean. But I think you can see he is really starting to bring that part to his game. It’s learning what gifts he has and what he has to do to be on the ice. Off the ice, I don’t want to change his personality. But I think he can use his body and be more physical to make himself more effective. When he’s like that, holy smokes.”

Ill touch on this first..  You could see the kid is a sweetheart, he looked so worried and almost sick when Richardson got hurt.  And I love it!  Shows he has a lot of character to him.  And some of the nastiest sons I know are big teddy bears till they lace up the gloves and skates.. Then look out ;)

correct me me if in wrong that's the second injury caused this year by somebody having minor contact with Trammer.  Kids a beast, loved him and how his situation is handled. hopefully those not liking the tough love jakes been receiving will see it's a tried and true method of sending messages, making players aware of what is required of them. Developing players takes a lot more than just... Here kid, here's  some ice time so you can get some experience.

Well there are numerous goalies who have Vezina's & Stanley's who aren't in the HHOF.

Just because a player doesn't get into the HHOF does not mean that player has no major awards on his resume. Luongo has a very impressive resume & has been a champion on many different levels. The idea he hasn't is pure nonsense.

Great points, and something for ppl to keep in mind... It's the HHOF not the NHLHOF.

Why not simply sit Sbisa for a game and play Tryamkin.

Do you think this would  reduce our chances of winning the Stanley Cup this year....

LOL - our club is going to finish 25th -30th   regardless of whether Sbisa or Tryamkin draws into the lineup.

We need a coaching  / management team that is committed to development of our prospects.

If  Willie isn't up to the job -  lets gets rid of him.

You don't just play a guy that admitadley showed up to camp out of shape.  What kind of message does that send to the others?  He will play when he's in shape, not before then.   3% body fat loss is a lot already, hopefully he is close and has learned from this.  And I've been an open supporter of his since arriving, but I support doing things the right any more.

If we did move Edler, I don't think that would even be necessary for Try.

    Hutton, Gudbranson

    Sbisa, Tanev

    Tryamkin, Larsen

    Pedan, Biega

That said, I don't see us moving Edler unless we're out of the playoff picture at the TDL AND Larsen has fit right in in his 6th D/PP specialist role AND Tryamkin looks like a solid #4/5 regular with promise to be more.

    That's a lot of ifs...

    Agreed..

Just found the bolded part funny as it sounds like broken English, say it with a Russian accent

That's not what the explanation from Tryamkin was.  He said the coach asked why he came off, and Tryamkin said the shift was long enough.  I like the big guy, but he definitely needs to be lighter, leaner, and fitter.  If he gets himself into fabulous condition, he could dominate.

You need to just stop, that's a complete false statement.  Your schtick is getting old.  He actually said he thought he heard somebody in the bench call for a change!

He himself said the speed of play here was something he wasn't ready for.  He said he needed to drop weight, and become fitter to play the faster paced NHL game.  His first shift was less than 10 seconds.

Don't misrepresent things to make your point... It was a miscommunication with the bench that led to the short shift not lack of endurance

I want to set the bar here so have made use of my ignore button (which is what I direct others to do when they're being reeled in).  I only state this because it's a double standard if I continue by reacting (in anger) as I may have if I didn't step away.

But I will close with this, because I can.  Because I DO feel so strongly about this topic.  I will continue to be involved and do things aside from being a keyboard warrior.  I'll stand with the real warriors out there trying to protect some of what we have here.   And a realtor cashing in on what's going on isn't about to throw me off that.

"Progress".   Let's look at that, shall we?  How it is defined is as much about who defines it as anything.

If it's a realtor whose obvious interests lie in...real estate, it may differ from others' ideas.  Be slanted toward that.  Personally,  I don't measure progress by "development" (in the form of buildings)  that's construction.  Progress is about moving forward and, as part of that, becoming "better" as a society in whole.  (Shoddy) buildings going up at a dime a dozen rate to be gobbled up by overseas millionaires to flip a dozen times before no one can afford them don't measure "progress" to me.  Knocking down perfectly good homes so developers can profit doesn't measure progress to me.  Unless you're a real estate agent waiting to close the deals on them, it likely isn't.   Profit.  Not progress.

Standing in front of bulldozers was mentioned.  But is progress really the incessant building of stuff?  On burial grounds and in places that people hold sacred? Or is progress learning from the past and growing into better human beings as part of that?  I know which one I'm for.

I don't consider replacing greenery with concrete progressive.  Putting up 20 room fortresses where bungalows were.

Just because people can make more from mansions and hotels, doesn't mean it's the best plan.  How about assessing needs vs wants?  People want more money...but people NEED affordable housing.  So is it progressive to plow over one for the sake of the other?  So a millionaire from overseas can make a buck if they knock it down, glam it up then flip it?  Again and again until it's unattainable for the average Joe?  And it sits empty until the next flip (which is the prevailing theme here at the moment).  That's not progress to some of us.

Real estate offers an easy in for those wanting to play the get rich quick game of Monopoly.   So to disguise it as something different?  And the realtor jumped from trying to convince us that his overseas buyers are good families wanting a better life here to scoffing at ideas of dirt roads and picket fences in a more transparent voice.

Just because you "can" doesn't always mean you "should".  Stuffing your pockets full of the proceeds from something doesn't measure progress.  Progress is about moving forward but, if during that, people are being displaced and finding it difficult, it's more of a step backward.

Progress comes in many forms:  nature and the environment; comfort and livability; community and resources in place in support of that; values and integrity.  So development for real estate and speculation purposes is far from the be all to end all or progress.

Ensuring we have a viable and sustainable food source?  Pretty important.  Clean air and water?  Those matter too.  Community safety and resources?  Check.  So let's not just hone in on "we should build it because they will come" progress because it makes some rich (and others poor).   The real estate industry has been blinded by it.

I almost got sucked into this...it was starting to rile me up.  Then I realized "it's a realtor defending real estate".   Not even going to waste any more time...

So thank you, Rod, for pushing me to the brink.  Had the best workout I've had in a week because I channeled it there and kicked some butt.  Worked it through vs telling you how I really feel then having to ban myself.  Not worth it.  :)

This is such an extremely important topic and those who try to scoff at, belittle and undermine (pave over?)  the feelings of others are the same ones who got us here in the first place.  But they'll try to sell us something different.

    Selfish.

Well said Deb. I'm one that believes real estate agents only care about the green that lines their pockets. The most overplayed job in the world.  No skills needed, just an active market.

Where to even begin. Deb, you will never be able to get in the way of progress. You can stand in front of the bulldozers but it wont stop.

You are selfish in your request (and there is nothing wrong with that) but if you are the only neighbour left there you are not fighting for anyone but yourself.

For many of the sellers, the money is their blessings. The world changes Deb. No more dirt roads, white picket  fences etc. You are trying to catch a shooting star. While that is your prerogative, it wont stop progress.

First off rod, I wish you would read what your typing while thinking about how the person reading it will perceive it.  There's a reason real estate agents and lawyers have such "snake in the grass"

As for the highlighted part... No this market is NOT a blessing for sellers.. Unless those sellers are moving to Nova Scotia!  Because to repurachase something local they have to pay the ridiculous prices we are paying now.  My home value went up 160,000 last year.  Does me no good as everything else overpriced.

This is is where you need to get things clear.  The only people making any money on this are people like you and the investors.  So no wonder you will sit there on your horse and tell @debluvscanucks.. Times change, blah blah blah.. But Deb and folks like myself care about the future generations of British Columbians being able to have acces to affordable housing.

I love over how you perceive sky rocketing housing prices as progress lol we understand communities will grow, but housing prices climbing over 30% per year is unstastainable and when it crashes the only people who will hurt are those families that you "help"  you will have all your commission and the investors will have pocketed enough not to feel a thing.

  10. I'm curious to know how folks feel about millionaires moving to our country from a country with a falsely propped dollar supporting their "millions".  Which if their currency wasn't fudged would not be worth near what it is now?  These millionaires are then able to buy up property to use as rental income.

To to me this is one of the big problems that never gets discussed.  Why do we let so many Chinese millionaires move here and push the population of people born and raised in the GVRD out?

    LMAO!!!!

    1. PLEASE SHOW ME WHERE I SAID HE DIDN'T STRUGGLE?

    2. I ALLUDED TO THE FACT THAT HE CERTAINLY DIDN'T STRUGGLE THE WAY BERT DID THAT CAUSED HIM TO BE TRADED TO US, AND AS HE (Bert) DID IN HIS FIRST SEASON with the Isles + AS HE DID HERE FOR A FEW YEARS (and this was after he'd been in the league for 4 years a well!!!)

    3. He's  (Virt)19 you think he's Gretz? LMAO!!!!! He's just going to come in to the NHL vs men and not struggle a bit? LOL

    4. He played with who? 4th line grinders, ya gonna light up the score board with those guys and 8 mins a game

Try to use your brain a bit k? that's what its there for....Give him a few years buddy before you start saying 'oaf' lol

I bet Mcdavid doesn't think he's an oaf nor do the other guys he steam rolled at NINETEEN years old vs MEN!!! LOL

Henrik Sedin 21 years old as a rookie 29 pts in 82games = .35 ppg

Virtanen 19 years old as a rookie 13 pts in 55 games with grinders = .24 ppg and other intangibles (hitting and speed)

So Jake is scoring at 67% of the pace of Henrik in their respective first years, Henrik was 1.5 years older and playing with skilled players (at least one in his brother who will be a hall of famer), Virt got Prust, Dorsett, and plug in a crap center Vey or whomever was the center do jour on the 4th line.

Not saying Jake will score at 67% of Henrik's pace over his career but simply making a point on how absurd your view is, to judge a player in his first year at 19.

85% of Nucks fans were screaming about the twins being 'sisters for 4 years' guess what - they are going to the Hall of Fame

= Nucks fans who make such comments early in a players career simply don't know JACK

Don't let it get to you, there is just an over abundance of negative Nancy's on here.  I prefer to be a glass half full kinda fan.. I can see the realities, but why just focus on the negative all the time?  Gets old reading it but don't worry they are the minority.

    With anything, it takes time.

Jake has had a good start to his training, but will need to continue the same habit to develop his peak physical stamina and such.

I remember watching a short video documentary on the Sedins and they said that it took several years before they developed their level of fitness to be at its top notch level.

Proper eating, sleeping, workout habits will be key for Jake to refine these next few years to reach his peak potential.

Well said and very correct.  The average humans peak for physical strength starts around 30 (of course professional athletes will take a few years off of that.  That's why there is always the joke about "man strength".  As far as the endurance side of things as humans we continue to grow as we challenge our physical endurance.  Marathon runners will attest to the fact that in their 40s they have a ton more in the tank than in their 20s.  It decades of pushing your limits of endurance that program your body.

Take what these people are saying with a grain of salt.  This is more of a sandbox game and people like Monty were expecting one of the games like he mentioned.. Somebody who has only played this game for 20 hours has no clue.  This game is way to big to get the bulk of it that fast.  If one doesn't have experience with sandbox style games they may be disappointed with this title.  Personally I give it an 8/10 and I've been alpha/beta testing for over a decade... If you go into this game expecting it to be something it's not, you can't blame the game can you?

as far as jet lag, I'm sure you all can remember the importance Hockey Canada put on getting the players there as early as possible to allow for the maximum adjustment period.  It takes time to adjust to that big of a difference.  Sleep clock adjustment food etc.  No need to rush.  Really looking forward to seeing him, not just for the hype.. Isn't willing to work for anything and expects things to either be perfect or expects thing to come easy.  The key to a successful marriage is finding that special somebody you want to go to hell and back with ;)   If you believe there is no option for divorce it forces you to work through things, for better or worse.  I'm much too young to sound this damn old!  lol
