"Draft and develop" is tough when the draft pick is poor and the development is basically non existent. Green worked with JV in Utica, but the guy feels entitled, and Green knew he was stuck with this kid as JB`s pick. Internal politics. JV lacked the IQ on, and sadly, off the ice. Good luck kid! Hope you can figure it out.

You could call up from AHL and expose that piece instead while getting something for Holtby. Or?
-
Guess Holtby will be trade deadline bait due to the expansion.

All the fringe guys (except JV) would clear waivers anyway IMO.If Adam has earned it, then play him. LE will be kept to kill penalties @ 6 mill per (untradeable). Bye Goldy and Schaller, maybe Motte as well if another guy can kill penalties for him. Pretty sure JB is trying to get a trade to reclaim something for these guys, but good luck with that.

Hard to compete with totally different tax implications. The league should be looking for parity on that issue as it is a huge bargaining chip.

I hope Jake has trained hard and can take a page out of Roussel, Miller(?) and Ferland`s book to provide some crash and bang all over the place. Nowhere to hide wolfpack mentality would win a lot of games.

You have your Baltic countries mixed up, Vilnius is in Lithuania, I imagine you had to fly into Riga though as Vilnius airport is quite small.
Very small city and yes the old town area is well kept with the old architecture.
Well spotted (It was cocktail hour)! The first bar/restaurant I entered in Vilnius a guy came in carrying his hockey gear and sticks, so I struck up a conversation. I have been to Riga as well, where you can admire more Russian architecture.

Have you ever been to Latvia?
Actually, yes. Spent a week in and around Vilnius. Even got used to the bow ties fairly quickly.

Quite the neck on ole Jimbo, especially compared to Freddy boy. Same barber apparently though after all these years! Loyalty can be a good thing.

If this is so, then Jimbo is definitely all-in on a contract extension for himself.

Acquiring Miller provides immediate help and cost certainty for 4 years at a reasonable cap hit. Would have preferred two 2nds rather than a 1st but there may have been other suitors. Hopefully Juolevi is ready to step in and contribute this season. If so we could be pushing hard for the playoffs this year. JB answers to FA and his job is on the line. That affects decision making. I just hope we don't blow the load on UFA that becomes another Loui contract crippling the team down the road. Go Nucks.

Actually, Button was not only a scout, but a director of scouting. He’s been in scouting and management forever. I guess he’s retired to broadcasting now. He does know hockey. If he’s seen guys play over lots of games, I think he’d have a fairly good read on them.
My wife loves Button’s hair. Every time she sees him on TV she says he’s got really nice hair. I kind of hate the guy actually.
You`re pushing 39 000 posts and you have a wife? LOL

If you find long and tedious posts with no sense of reality "fun" then good for you. I just find them tiresome. Still waiting for Dane Fox...

I think the simplest trade and one that Holland would go for is the following simply because he takes on no additional salary and does not give up a very important top 10 pick. Holland keeps his 1st. We get a 2nd and Poolparty and a chance at a player like Turcotte, Dach, Cozens that may drop and who I feel are in the 2nd tier of players along with Byram with the 8thOA. If none of those players are available, we have the option of trading down 3 to 4 spots and still remain in the top 12. If at 12 we still have a few players that we like, why not trade down to 14th or 15th and pick up yet another additional asset. Not sure if this has happened at the draft before but could help us pick up multiple picks whilst still picking a player we like and need. We could ask Lucic to waive his NMC at the expansion draft as its quite doubtful Seattle picks him up. A conversation would need to be had with Seattle to get Lucic to agree.
8th OA, 38th OA, Pujuljarvi, Lucic
for 10th OA
We could then trade down to 11 or 12 for an additional 2nd rounder as well.
8thOA to Phi
for 11thOA and 41OA.
Trade down further from here for an additional 2nd If JB still feels like he can go down further and get the player he wants
At this points, see who is left. If there are multiple options offer up the 11thOA for the 14thOA or 15thOA and pick up another 2nd. I would not want to pick any lower than 15th. With the surprises we have had in the last two years, I would expect 1 or 2 to be selected off the board which would put the 5-12 players in the 7-14 range and still give us a shot a very good player and additional 2nds. I think to move up 3-4 spots in the 1st round, is minimum a 2nd rounder.
We would then have 11, 38, 40, 41
Nehwook/Krebs/Seider at 11
Leason, Foote, Thompson, Korczak, Afanasyev, Tracey. We could end up walking away with 3 players in the 2nd.
If we could walk away with Krebs, Leason, Thompson and Korczak, it will have been an extremely good day for us at the draft.
Wow. And the chances of it playing out like this are...?

A lot of talk about Poldkozin
however if he slides a bit I don’t think he makes it past Edmonton
he was ranked 3rd overall all year and Holland has had success with Russians
most likely BPA at 8th as well
I would expect some serious Yakupov gag reflex.

I expect Jimbo to trade down from what I have been hearing from his interviews. They must have someone on their radar from the tier 3 group at around 15 is my guess. Not sure what could be acquired to move down though. A 3rd?

Jake is not a mistake, and I hope he isn't going anywhere. Reaves getting traded twice for a first round pick should tell you all you need to know about big guys who can actually play. Jake will get there, and has already outscored Reaves.
Slightly different "toughness" element. Reaves is probably top 3 tough guy in the league (and soon to be extinct). Jake has withered on the vine after his big hit junior video collection IMO. Is he really a "power foward" or just a bigger body who plays soft? Jake can skate and may produce 20 goals if he raises his low water mark night to night, but I really don`t see power forward in his game to compare him to Reaves`old-school toughness. My 2 cents.

Definitely would take on the 1 year remaining ones but I would rather push our cap ceiling with Panarin or Karlsson. Taking on a Lucic for a second for example limits our ability to make our team better with elite talent. Now if we strike out completely on those FAs then it may make sense as a backup plan.
Agree with much of this but believe it is too early to make a big UFA splash. We`re not contenders next year either way. We need to get Brock and Petey signed long term and see where we are at with cap space. I personally think EK is a huge risk given his recent health and the huge cost. Stick to the plan... draft and develop. Obviously some wiggle room if we get close to contending. Until then weaponize any cap space and be creative. We still have quite a ways to go.

We are sitting in a good place in this draft. Someone will drop that JB can pounce upon. Hopefully not Caufield though.

It is the agents job, and self interest, to squeeze what he can out of any organisation. The players could be willing to sign but are following the advice of whom they have hired to negotiate on their behalf. The agent has no interest or empathy towards the cap or hand-cuffing an organisation. He works on commission. Unless a player represents himself there will be no team friendly deals to be had.
