  1. Not sure if this has ever been discussed so apologies if that’s the case.

Im an older, social media illiterate dude so I’m reaching out to you folks with an idea and the potential implementation of said idea. I’m wondering if there is a way to torpedo a reporter/agency who is annoying Petterson? For example: if jimmy from blah blah blah website keeps asking Petterson about his contract status at training camp, can we the fans, negatively effect his company, business or job? In a way that will make him wake the heck up to the realization that we the fans care that Pettersons wishes are being adhered too? Can we Effect jimmy in such a way that he changes his line of questions and behaviour?

my initial thought is that any press is good press but that can’t be the case if we the fans are truly organized in our goal…

I feel that the intentions and line of questioning from the media don’t always align with what I want the players to be accosted with and Pettersons wishes being respected could go a long way into positively swaying his perception of Vancouver, then subsequently his next contract negotiations…

    cheers

Weaponizing cap is the dumbest thing ever.

We just bought something like 2million of cap 8 months ago with a 2nd rounder trading Dickinson..? Now we do the opposite of that..? Where does that get us? Negative value?

And you are suggesting Aquilini just spent 19million just to buy a 1st or something like that? More like Aquaillini believes strongly in our core and spent 19million so we can retool this team to contend in the coming 2 years.

So anyone thinking we are weaponizing our cap is just wrong.

Sorry if I struck a nerve. I mentioned Clancy for a reason and I’m wondering if you missed that part.

We need to hit on our pro scouting.

    Don’t like this at all

Could have not bought him out, or in 2 years. Or this summer. But I thought a good compromise would have been a buy out after next season.  Then we could have shaved something like 7 million off cap in total, and also, maybe more important, finished OELs buy out 2 years sooner.

We could have carried OEL playing limited minutes for one freakin year. I do not think that happening would make any difference in us making or not making the playoffs next season

When this team is in such a crunch, we are once again kicking the can down the road. For what we could have gained in the years that actually will matter, we save cap space initially,  when the only place we will be playing in the SCF will be in Francesco’s head

does management seriously think we can win the Cup next season?  We better because we are setting up to be in the worst possible cap situation at a crucial time in a few years when we have to pay other important pieces.

i had more faith in JR to stand up to our short sighted owner, but he’s following the same game plan. It’s always only about the next season. And keep taking huge gambles with the future to scrape together a possible 8th place team that Aqua believes will be the 2024 Canadian miracle on ice.

    dumb dumb dumb dumb

But does Petterson resign in this kind of environment ?

  4. Goose - He brought up Carolina because that is what every other gm negotiating with bear will be doing. He doesn’t have a long enough track record as a solid nhl contributor. There might be a team out there willing to take a flyer on him but I don’t think it’s likely at his qualifying offer. Not this summer atleast.

  5. Bear hasn’t earned / proved much of anything yet, that’s the unfortunate bit. Seems like van valued his potential as a #5 but now it’s hard to pay him as such. Poor timing fr everyone accept woo and his believers.

Jake was that player.  3 of his first 4 full seasons he led the team in takeaways per 60 mins (the 4th he was second to Liepsic).  Supplanted last year by Hoglander in total number and by 6 others in per 60 mins led, of all people,  by Eriksson.

Jake would spend 95% of a shift not skating and then sneak attach unsuspecting opponents from behind. His take away stats were just that, a stat. His 200ft game was aweful from day 1 and you googlie, anoong a few others, gave this  guy way too much rope.

Wait, what? You just seem to be making the argument that there is more room for development for summer birthday players at the time they are drafted. Everyone knows that the youngest players at the draft on average have more room for improvement. This doesn't logically entail TGoku's claim that most of the best players are born in that date range. In fact, I looked up the synopsis to the book you mentioned, and it seems to claim exactly the opposite, that "a disproportionate number of elite Canadian hockey players are born in the earlier months of the calendar year."

There is a disproportionate amount of prospects in the jan-April range which is why I believe it very possible that a disproportionate amount of top nhl dmen are may-august.

Probably  something to do with the way dmen tend to develop and these late birthdays have to scratch and claw to stay relevant as a prospect but then come 21, 22 years old they are on an even playing field physically but have gone through that earlier adversity.

I’m not sure of any of the stats but it seems very plausible to m with dmen because of their quirky development path. I would assume though that most star forward talent is equally represented

Moving forward - I will be borrowing your theory when watching the draft.

Have you only applied this theory on defenceman and how did you discover it ?

This is not a theory. It’s widely known in the scouting industry and is common sense, in my opinion....If it helps, try thinking about it more along the lines of mining value from draft eligible players that aren’t quite as developed and have, on average, been a whole 6 months behind in age compared to their peers.

Or just read outliers by Malcolm Gladwell.

  9. I don’t think we have both Sutter and beagle next year. I think it’s more likely we have neither and Miller moved to the 3C and replaced by Hoagy on line 1.

depending how Lind  looks down the stretch JB might allocate him a spot in the bottom 6 for next year.

So we’d get one year and five games on a 2 year entry deal.

but it’s good because he won’t be eligible to get offer sheeted is that really a realistic concern for him?

so instead of two full season at a bargain you get one year then he’s still an RFA that’ll demand more salary/cap
makes zero sense for him to play here this season.fingers crossed Russia selects him and takes our moron out of the mix.

Moron is right. It’s 3 years

  11. I’m very torn as well as to if pod should come over for a few games.

The way his game is projecting, he will have more value to a team than an arbitration case may be able to justify so I don’t see him signing a huge second contract.

As a fan there will be some relief and transparency to just see him sign now but that’s negligible.

It might just come down to what Pod is most comfortable with.

    lol.. totally unnecessary trade.

Highmore looks like someone we can send straight to AHL and forget about and not a bit of exaggeration. For the Hobey Baker winner we have developed for a few years who scored 33 points last year playing 11minutes a game?

    Nice. Traded him for nothing.

Hobey baker and 33 points yes. Still had no value none the less so I think the real issue here is your ability to evaluate a hockey player.
