Debatable... I'd consider Baertchi - Horvat - x more of a scoring line and Sutter's line more of a checking line. They've been a whole hell of a lot better though offensively and defensively so they've been getting more ice time but in my eyes a traditional 2nd line has more of a scoring role while a traditional 3rd line has more of a checking role. So personal wise Horvats line is more of a 2nd line but deployment wise Sutter's line is more of our second line.

Either way the point is Rodin would take Skille's spot without a doubt

After 4 games Baertschi and Horvat have positive +/-numbers, they are very solid in the own end, better than last year. Maybe they develop into a great two way combo and it looks like it's what WD wants them to be. Roedin should fit with them well, he isn't soft like some suggest and he wasn't the MVP in Sweden last year for nothing. You are not getting MVP honors in any league if you are an one dimensional player.

Seems like Virt had his Goalio's for breakfast today. I like him in the high slot with Granlund and Baertschi working the puck around. His goal was a very hard shot from the replay.

Virtanen with those two is a nice skilled third line and would allow to dress a gritty second line:

    2: Sutter - Horvat - Hansen

    3: Baertschi- Granlund - Virtanen

    or more balanced

    2: Baertschi - Horvat - Hansen

    3: Granlund - Sutter - Virtanen

It looks like these 6 Players will make these two lines in any order with Rodin starting as 13F or as injured one.

Speaking of protecting injuries, I think teams playing with 5 defenseman (after a Dman leaves hurt) is not a good thing. Especially early on in a game. It makes for overtired defensemen and then they are also prone or vulnerable to injury.

It's great that they plan to to take 8 dmen on the 23 man roster. After last year, when some played by, let's be honest, played by default, this year there will be some healthy competition.

Okay... this player wasn't a Canuck, but he's probably the most unknown player that ever played in the NHL in my opinion, so lets see if you can get it.

  5. This is really a nice piece, AAC.

Does Sven have a problem with pressure? No, I don't think so. He has high expectations about himself so if others have too it's nothing special for him, imo. There is a story from the custodian of the portland winterhawks who said he often had to stay longer at work because one player stayed in the arena doing extra work on the ice after everbody else left, the player was Sven.

Losing the coaches trust while trying returning from a mean injury, broken ribs from his first game with the swiss national team against russia, was the tough situation for him. He found himself in a fourth line with players who hadn't the skill to play with him.

But after all I had to say this experience maybe help him to devolop in that skilled two way player he became. I really like the way he plays now.

I really think Granlund is being utilized wrongly by Desjardins. I'm not saying Desjardins sucks, or doesn't know how to use his players. Maybe it was a communication problem from management to Desjardins about the type of player Granlund is. It could be management's fault, maybe they didn't scout him enough and aren't 100% sure of what Granlund's game is all about. I really don't know anything about this since I don't get information about the Canucks from the management/coaching staff. I do know that Granlund is a superbly smart playmaker that makes the right decisions with the puck and uses his hockey sense more than anything else to be an effective hockey player. He isn't primarily a checker or a shooter. He's not the playmaker to make a sweet saucer pass full speed to a streaking winger. Instead, he's a head-up, play reading passer that sees plays open up.

Desjardins gave Henrik Sedin and then Sutter (when Sutter got hurt, McCann) the nice offensive zone starts, and then Granlund and Horvat the defensive zone starts. So top 2 Cs had offensive opportunities, bottom 2 Cs had defensive chores. I guess he had no other choice, either McCann or Granlund, or have Henrik Sedin take defensive zone starts with Horvat, but then we'd have no scoring. So yeah, I guess he had no choice.

This year, I hope Desjardins relies on Horvat and Sutter to take defensive zone draws and lets Granlund and Henrik work offensively. Not only to win games, but what do we have in Granlund? His bread and butter is offence and playmaking, well let's see what he's to be a NHLer.

Well, Granlund has that potential and WD knows it. But he has to learn the d-side of the game, too. He get that 4th-line treatment to learn how to win face-offs and all the rest that complete players do. There is no room for offensive players only with the Canucks anymore, thats why Vrbata was demoted and McCann traded. A team harder to play against means every player plays solid in all zones of the game.

But in preseason it would like to see some combinations of Baertschi-Granlund-Sutter/Roedin. This has second line potential and Horvat can develop in a more defensive role with Burrows/Etem-Horvat-Hansen/Virtanen.

Can't wait to see the Sedins grab an extension too with Eriksson here. Really think the Sedins asked really nicely if we can sign him. Then Benning agreed

The Sedins already told they have no problem to step back to second line if time has come. So yes, they may play together for many years to come, another three years as first line and then two or three on the second.

In Sweden they are called DHL Line (Daniel, Hank and Loui), known for fast goal delivery.

    I'm thrilled, really. Like it.

If bo is one the second line I would like to see

    Sedin Sedin Sutter

    Bear Bo Hansen

to me those two lines would be great as we have 4 other players that can play center

What if Bo has a more defensive part?

    Sedin Sedin Sutter

    Bear Granlund Roedin/UFA

    Etem Bo Hansen

    Burrows Gaunce Dorsett

With a big smile in the face, yes, he's wearing the golden helmet for the teams top scorer. Had a great year in .. easy guessable.. in Zurich. The second year we didn't hardly recommend him, had only 5 goals.

    Tripple Yes!

And now one without a picture: In the very first hockey game I saw live he made the shutout winner, it was a playoff quarterfinal and my hometown team defeated the favourite. It was a legendary game because we were a losing team for a long time those times. It was in a legendary bowl, indeed Muhamed Ali was boxing there a few years before. And the player was a legend too, I was looking for a picture where he eats his loved hot dogs but I could'nt find one.

A few buildings in a narrow valley, a windy stadium that is cold as the pole. Sometimes it is even foggy inside. But the fans are fanatic like italian soccer fans, they speak italian too so that is the reason maybe. Stars in your village, that's lockout from the european view.

    Yes.

Why is Kenins so weirdly buff?

After two years coached from Bob Hartley 2011/12.. The season here has 40 games less than in the NHL and the players had been a lot in the gym in those Hartley days.
