  1. Then why is everybody so pro tank, because a true tank is at least a five year turnaround. I tend to agree with you, I hate tanking because I lose interest in watching games. But if we're going to tank, go all in. I see what management is doing in getting underused young players who are maybe a hear or two from hitting their peak. They are using the Brian Burke technique of acquiring younger players with potential like Naslund, Morrison and Big Bert. They might have hit the jackpot with Beauvillier as one of those players looking for a fresh start and a chance to play on the top line with two future superstars. The draft picks are nice, but this philosophy also looks a little like the LVGN expansion draft theory and it just might work.
  2. I think with Petey, if he sees improvement over the next two years, he will stick around. I'm more concerned that Hughes bolts to NJ when he gets the chance.
  3. Silovs has been improving year over year until this season when he emerged as the anchor for an excellent season in Abby. He's been improving because of his work with Ian Clark, who is reportedly a big fan. I'll go with Clark's assessment that Silovs has serious NHL potential.
  4. Completely disagree, but I've made my case. We will see if a more structured defense helps, but who is going to play defense other than Hughes and maybe Bear? Do they sign some top 4 guys? That's not cheap. Do they draft them? That takes a few years to develop unless you get a Top 5 pick. This team needs at least two years to retool the defense alone.
  5. Petey has to get used to not making the playoffs for the next two years. Rebuilds don't happen in a season. If management is lucky they'll get a solid middle six forward or second or third pairing Dman unless we get a top-five pick. But that top pick this year cN develop over the next couple of years.
  6. First of all why does it matter who plays goal for the next two years, the team is going to be baaaaaad, that's what happens with a rebuild. Get a good return and move Demko to a team where he can win. If management wants to rack up good picks, play Delia and Martin. Or if they want, bring Silovs along as the eventual starter, and let him grow up with the young team. He certainly played well enough in his audition, so let him play.
  7. I think if they're going to move him for a good return, it'll have to be this summer. Hopefully he can stay healthy through the rest of the year, and play like his old self.
  8. The Kings wanted Gavrikov, and sent Quick as a cap dump, it's why they had to sweeten the deal with a #1 pick. Korpisalo is a rental. He's a FA after this year. While Demko is on a known contract for the next few years. Korpisalo's a backup, with a career GAA of 3.05 and a S% of .903. He's not going to be their starter going forward. They'll clear enough cap room this summer to acquire a true #1 goalie like Demko.
  9. Friedman said on their most recent 32 thoughts podcast that he thinks if anything happens with Demko it will be this summer, after he's had a chance to show he's healthy. Now this is my thought, nobody wants to make a playoff bet on his groin being completely recovered and ready to stand up to playoff stress, because there won't be any time-sharing once the playoffs start, your #1 plays all the games. Demko would by the long-term solution to the departure of Quick. He's a SoCal guy, and being trade to LA would be going home for him. I've said it before, if Hughes and Petey are the definition of the window management is aiming for, Demko is 3-4 years too old for that window, and he now has two serious injuries that have caused him to miss considerable time (concussion and groin), not to mention three other lower body/knee injuries and another concussion, on his resume. Silovs is the right age, which is why I think they had him up for an audition to see what he can do. He acquitted himself well, which I think makes a Demko trade more likely. Now hopefully Silovs can lead Abby to a long playoff run. I don't hate Demko, but if we're clearing the books, lets clear them all, JT, Brock, Garland, and any other over 25 we can get young assets or draft picks for.
  10. https://nhlrumors.com/nhl-rumors-washington-capitals-vancouver-canucks-and-the-pittsburgh-penguins/2023/02/26/ A few weeks ago, I speculated that Demko could be trade bait as soon as he was healthy because age wise, he is beyond our window, and I got poo-pooed by somebody. Today I saw this rumor which does not surprise me. If he went to a competitor, he could have two Stanley Cup windows, here he would have one at best. I also wonder if he, too, is dubious about the new Canucks medical staff. Finally, he's had a significant injury, which will always be a weakness in the future, whether it was a hip or a groin. Trade him and move on. Now I understand why Silovs is getting such a long look; management wants to know if they can make Demko available.
  11. Considering that sixth rounders making the show is like less than 1 in 100, Silovs is something of a special case. The scouts recognized untapped raw talent and Ian Clark is turning that into what appears to be a pretty good NHL prospect. Sorry you don't like Benning, I know he triggers strong emotions among the fan base, but he did draft Petey, who was not a sure thing where we got him, Hughes, Boeser whose career track prior to the back injury was a regular 40-50 goal scorer, he got Demko in the 2nd round. His only real miss was Virtanen. I'm sorry you obviously don't like him, but Benning was good at assessing talent, it's too bad he wasn't as good at negotiating contracts.
  12. I think we might have found our goalie of the future and maybe the present. Another late-round draft coup for Benning.
  13. Then you end up completely screwing the teams that need the help. Better to figure out who is trying to tank vs who's just plain awful. And of course a rebuilding team trading assets should not be considered tanking. I think the league should force their teams to be honest with their fanbase. If the Canucks announce a rebuild then trade away anybody with value in their late 20s, that's not a tank, but appearing to your fanbase like you want to win while constantly making moves to tank, like the Oilers did, that should be penalized. I know the lottery draws attention and creates excitement, but it has worked against the Canucks every year they've been in the draft in the past decade.
  14. It's the alternative spelling, old habits die as hard, much like a Russian defense executive pushed out a seventh story window.
  15. Boudreau would have been great again this year had management held onto Brad Shaw. Coaches who are not strong with systems need one or two assistants who are. When Bruce took over last year, he put Shaw where he should have been, in charge of defense, and look what happened. Management let him go, replaced him with crap and you get this year's product.
  16. No, really, Tocchet sucks as a HC, he's never had any real success anywhere, and he was a massive failure in Tampa. How do you not make the playoffs with the roster they were icing when he was there? Stamkos, St. Louis, Lecavalier all playing 82 games and he missed the playoffs, and his successor takes that same team to the third round? He sucks!
  17. I used to think that too, but management has to know if he's ready. Demko is no longer on this team's timeline, so he comes back from injury, plays a couple of games to show he's back and maybe becomes trade bait?
  18. All I can say is, I don't care anymore, these games are painful to watch, even watching eight to ten minutes of highlights on YouTube sucks. Tocchet is great for the tank because he sucks as a coach, hopefully, if they get some instant help in the draft, Raty turns out to be better than he currently looks on paper and ready for next season, and management can find some undervalued defensive help, then they can hire a real coach, like Brad Shaw, who had defensive systems that actually worked for this team.
  19. Welp, that saves me from watching it on DVD, since I worked night shift tonight and couldn't have gotten to it until Wednesday. I feel like the team owes me a refund for getting the Canuck's package on Xfinity. It's obvious management has given up on this team, they fired a popular coach, abused him in the worst way possible, hired a never was coach to replace him who is already working on making the team hate him, so the players are giving up. If I'm Petey or Miller, I'm protecting myself, not going into the corners hard, or fighting in front of the net. Imagine how it would suck to blow out a knee or suffer some other serious injury when it doesn't matter if you lose by one or eleven. Tocchet won't have any success with their systems, dude couldn't even make the playoffs with a Tampa team stocked with great players (Stamkos, St. Louis, Lecavalier who all played the full 82 games) but Guy Boucher took them to the third round the following year with few changes. Tocchet as a coach stinks, which is perfect for the tank. So they lose this season and next, then replace Tocchet with a real coach and start their turnaround.
  20. He plays soft because everytime he hits somebody he gets penalized for head hunting because he's so tall. The last time the Canucks were in the playoffs, Myers was great, played with grit, took the body, but the playoffs are refereed differently, so a hit hear the head that knocks a player down no matter if he's injured, gets you a targeting penalty in the regular season, but in the playoffs you can get away with blatant head hunting.
  21. Dermott is one more serious concussion from pulling the pin, I doubt we want him to drop the gloves for anything.
  22. Expecting a career farmer to be anything but a career farmer at his age was unreasonable. He had a good run in the A, but that's likely the highlight of his career. Delia has been the far better of the duo and should be the backup going forward.
