Contract and performance issues aside, I watch this interview and I can’t help but feel for the guy. He’s performed at a high level his whole life and now time is catching up to him, as it does with us all.

Sure some of the jokes about his play can be pretty funny sometimes,  but he is still a human being going through a tough time. Money does not make you exempt from feeling.

Eventually the issue will be sorted out either through trade or through waiting out his contract. In the meantime I’m going to support him and wish the best for him because like it or not, for better or worse, he is a Canuck and a human being.

He seems like a good guy and I wish him the best and hope he does well tonight.

Other than the goal, did Virtanen have a single noticeable moment the other night?  Leivo played 16 minutes, Virtanen played 9.  Green relies more on Leivo because he creates chances every game and can actually drive play.  Problem with Leivo is he is a bit of a meathead sometimes.  Throws the puck to nowhere.  Maybe Green is giving Leivo more ice time as a last chance type of thing but his production isn't horrible and he does bring size.  I would like to see Baertschi play though

Good thing you didn't use the word "Invisible"  or the Jake Bromancers will be calling you out 5th:lol:

Good Points on Leivo, I like what he brings, yes makes some mistakes along the way. I would think management sees him as a better fit bottom 6, size, durability down the stretch...

Evidently. It's good to be aware of your limitations.

Interesting that you know how to spell simpleton, but apparently don't know the difference between "to" and "too". One would almost think that you are on this site specifically to troll the Canucks fans.

Thank you for your English lesson. And you consider your self a canucks fan?  you seem like a condescending ahole to me, but hey that's just my Silly opinion

I had to ask your mom how to spell Simpleton

Baertschi and Goldobin - The pros and cons of calling them up

Baertschi and Goldie have been tearing up the A, while Eriksson continues to take naps in the press box along with Josh Leivo and Michael Ferland looking like misfits.

“So why not bring up Baertschi and Goldie?” Is the obvious answer.    Not only are Baertschi and Goldie tearing up the A, but they seem to have found some chemistry playing with one another.   Correct me if I’m mistaken, but this is the first time that Baertschi and Goldie have been playing together right? (Goldie is being deployed as a RW’er down in Utica).

Like I said - the obvious advantage in bringing up one or both Baertschi or Goldobin is that perhaps they could help our inconsistent scoring problem.    Perhaps the new found chemistry between Baertschi and Goldobin is a thing?

On the flip side of this however, there is an obvious difference between lighting it up in the AHL and being good at the NHL level.    History doesn’t seem to support the notion that Baertschi and Goldobin will come up here and make a huge difference.

The other thing to consider is this:  For years now, this management group has talked about building a winning environment down in Utica since it would be a good environment for the kids to be in.   Now that we finally seem to be getting that, we want to break it apart?

In two games time, there is a good chance that Adam Gaudette will be sent down to join Baertschi and Goldobin.........which would likely make Utica even more dominant.   Gaudette would get tons of ice-time and offensive opportunities.

With Goldobin and Baertschi lighting it up in Utica, their trade values will likely continue to increase as well.......meaning that perhaps they could turn into movable assets at some point.

The other thing to consider is this:

If you bring up Baertschi and say......waive Eriksson, do you really want a passive and sulking Eriksson around the kids in Utica?   affecting the positive atmosphere?   There’s also a chance that if Eriksson got sent down, he’d likely request to play for the Texas Stars just as Sam Gagner requested you play for the Toronto Marlies.

The Hindustan’s verdict:   As tempting as it might be to bring up Baertschi and Goldobin, I’d keep them down in Utica unless Eriksson, Motte, and the returning Roussel all get injured.    I would also send Adam Gaudette down to Utica in two games’ time.     I think there’s something to be said about building up a powerhouse down in Utica and letting our prospects be a part of that.   Furtwill hermore, if Baertschi and Goldobin continue to light it up, the chances of another NHL club wanting to trade for them becomes likelier.

Good post, well done with insight

but my question to you is the 2 days from now AG will be sent down? where is that information from?

Actually, calling someone silly when they are being logical would indeed be silly. Calling someone silly when they say something silly, like for example they are complaining that Jake should draw more penalties after a game where he drew more penalties than the entire rest of his team combined, is just being accurate. But I guess this concept is a bit complicated for you.

definitely way to complicated for a simpleton like me :bigblush:

    Silly me

    Hey buddy.

I have t ask what are you looking for from him to be called invisible? He is not Nylander. He is not Ehlers. Granted. So, if you are looking for a scoring dynamo, you are correct, he is invisible.

Remember this though, Jake gets benched when he misses his D assignment not when he misses a scoring opportunity. He was sent to the AHL oh so long ago to become consistent in his D coverage and he is now playing regular minutes in the NHL. What would that imply to you that management wants from him? CDC can want the moon but if management gives him a different task then well CDC gets to whine on CDC.

This leads to the next part. Why does Jake have a spot on the roster?

Jake is forechecking and chasing dump ins. He is winning board battles. He is playing good enough D that when the team ran out of gas the 3rd and 4th lines were played the most to stop the hurt and did it well.

I do not know his TOI but I see him doing things that most do not notice, well? So, Jake being invisible is good because he is doing his assignments well.

    Hey Buddy

I would never imply what management wants from him because i don't have a crystal ball

My opinion, like my arshole, is mine. Jake has been invisible

Oh, well if you suspect you should be back to normal by the end of the week, back to being 100% effective at doing your extremely physical job where you are one of the top few hundred in the world, of course Ferland must be 100% back to full speed.

Of course if you don't think that coming off the flu has any effect on his performance, it must be true. I mean, how could it have any effect?

Very logical posts boys. You are shining examples for "realistic fans" everywhere.

Realistic like you? are you a negative nelly? or just need to be correct in everything you say?

    THATS SILLY

He just played a good game, in which he drew more penalties than all his teammates combined. You would look less silly if you waited until a player has a bad game before whining about how crappy they are.

calling someone silly is silly, grow up.

Jake has been invisible for the most part

Even regular season is not what Jake was drafted for. If all JB cared about was regular season, he would have drafted Ehlers or Nylander. Jake was drafted for the playoffs, where someone like Jake who can power through hooks and holds and can crush opponents is priceless.

unless he gets traded today

Can Motte make Dowd redundant??  But I really like Dowd's size and grit.

I've been surprised that Dowd has been sitting, Imho I thought we was showing the battle level, play away from the puck and physical play the coach green seems to demand from most players. Have not noticed and major defensive weekness, good back checker. But my goodness those hands are not snipers hands, how many great chances did he have an not bury them...

life goes on as a canucks fan

    go canucks go

  13. He seems to be improving in many areas

personally IMO, he really needs work on making that first pass out of the zone. Many times he's just not reacting quick enough and rings it out and off the boards instead of on someones stick to maintain possession

    just my 2 cents

    Go Canucks go

Yea I was wondering this too. Everyone that had is it is now back and I noticed Tryamkin isn't. Im taking a guess he's hurt. i don't think he's been practicing

I'm wondering the same? Did he travel with the team? Usually you want size when playing the Big Cali teams

Our intrepid Vancouver Media has not asked what is up with him, i find that odd?

Why is that? Chaput has more points in 10 games with Utica than Jake has in 42. The last time Megna was in the AHL he was a ppg player. Gaunce went down to the AHL and scored more points in a weekend than Jake had in the last month or so. Those guys are experienced pros as well, they stay in shape, they work hard and they do what is asked of them despite their limited skillset. Jake has better tools than them but until he learns how to use them he is well behind even AHL lifers like Chaput.

    Bang on
