I have no problem with Benning's draft record, it's been good in a very competitive business. His trades and player development is a mystery to me. Bringing in Green was a great step in player development. But losing McCann, Dahlen, and Tryamkin were blunders. It's not enough to draft well, the players are assets that should be developed. Several times now Benning's given away too valuable assets for little and signed for too long and too much. Why not keep Benning for scouting director, his strength, and get a manager to handle trades, contracts, and development?

Not agreeing on Dahlen, after the canucks traded him, he left SJ to play in sweden again. Certain players think they just get their ice time and the opportunity to play in the top 6 for free. If you are not willing to earn your spot then i think it says a lot about the work ethic of a player. Honestly, not to sad about the departure of Dahlen.

There is no "deserve" in sports. Show me the results and you'll get your praise.

Tyler Myers being paid double what he's worth isn't going to help the above.

So rather rushing Quinn Hughes to first line minutes? What's your plan?

Off the top of my head here's why GMJB get's hate, i'm sure i'm missing some...

He signed Loui Erikkson to a 6x6 deal

He signed Brandon 4th line Sutter to a 5 year deal at huge money

He Drafted Virtnanen over Nylander and Ehlers (both of who CDC basically unanimously wanted)

Traded away McCann for Erik Pylon Gudbranson

Drafted Juolevi over Tkachuk (everybody wanted Tkachuk)

Signed Beagle and Roussell to 4 year deals to join the Sea of Granlunds

    Signed Schaller.... Who?

Now he's traded away a potential lottery pick for a minor upgrade to Leivo.

    Am I missing anything?

Tkachuk would have been a great pick for us but in hindsight its always easy to judge. Juolevi hasen't even played one single game for the canucks and to mark him as a bust or bad draft pick seems odd. So what was your choice in the 2017 draft? I guess it was not Petey, Jim Benning & his scouting staff know what they are doing when it goes to drafting players. The signings of Loui, Sutter etc are ugly but tell me if there is a team in the NHL without bad contracts, i'll wait. That drastic declined of loui wasn't expected and I think the blame is not only on our management. When you get 6mil you should play like a 6 mil player & put effort in every shift you get.

Complaining about Roussel, really?! Have you seen him playing last season? He was one of our better forwards until he got hurt, puts effort in every shift and fights for the team. I would rather have 12 roussels in our lineup than 12 willy nylanders

    Revisiting this proposal.

The Canucks would have ended up with Byram, Podkolzin, Newhook and Jost.

The J.T. Miller trade would have provided the replacement for Horvat. Giving up next year’s first rounder wouldn’t seem so bad given the influx of young talent.

In hindsight this deal would have been a steal for the Canucks.

But I think Bo hasn't reached his peak yet, so what if he puts up 75 points next season if he could play constantly with Baertschi, Miller or Pearson. With JT Miller potentially being the net front prescene on the PP, this opens up opportunities for Bo to take the spot in the middle between Petey and Brock on the PP. PP-Goals incoming...

If Leivo and Pearson put in the work this summer, they will be flanking Bo on the top line. Here’s my ideal lineup. Not likely to happen. But one can dream.

    Pearson Bo Leivo

    Anders Lee EP Brock

    Miller Sutter Virt

    Granlund Beagle Schaller

    Gaudette

    Edler Tanev

    Hughes Schenn

    Hutton Myers

    Juolevi

Trade Sutter and replace him with Gaudette and then it looks almost perfect.

I think for me we either pick our player at 10 or drop down picking up an extra second rounder for doing so. At 10 I would want us to select Boldy, Zegras or possibly Broberg. Of course this depends on who is left on the board. If we drop depending on what we get for dropping, id like to see us target a D man. Maybe another one in the second round.

I am hoping we sign a winger/center in FA. Lee if we cant get close to Panarin. Exciting day for sure to add another long term piece.

Just dont trade the number one pick. That will ruin my day.

Last sentence is exactly what i'm thinking, don't trade the 10th pick.

  7. 1) Boldy ( Rantanen comparison according to some scouts :towel:)

    2) Broberg ( Futher Top 4:  Q.Hughes - Broberg & Juolevi - Woo sounds entertaining)

    3) Newhook ( BC connection)

But what if JB wants to go after Giants Bowen Byram, if he's there at 4, 5 or 6

10th overall + Gaudette + 2nd or 3rd pick in 2019 or 2020 - Would this package get it done?

    1) Jack Hughes

    2) Kaapo Kakko

    3) Alex Turcotte

    4) Bowen Byram or Kirby Dach

    5) Bowen Byram or Trevor Zegras

To Winnipeg: 2020 1st round pick (top 5 protected, then 2021 top 2 protected), Jake Virtanen

To Vancouver: Nikolaj Ehlers, Matthew Perreault, conditional draft pick (2020 3rd rounder if the Canucks are in the lottery next year).

Why for Vancouver: The Canucks add an elite potential young (23) left winger on a long-term (6 years) cost controlled contract of $6 million per year.  He's the perfect player to complete the top line along with Petterson and Boeser.  Giving up Virtanen and the 2020 1st is a high price, but the Canucks won't want to part with their 1st rounder this year, since it's 10th overall and the draft is in Vancouver.  This would signify that the Canucks are taking a big step to start competing now and try to make the playoffs.  A 1st rounder is always a bit of a gamble, so in return they get a much more proven young player.  Perreault is a good veteran player with two more years on his deal at $4.125 million.  His deal isn't a long-term problem for the Canucks, and Perreault will be a valuable veteran in the short term, and potential trade bait at the deadline or in another year.  The conditional 2020 3rd round pick is some protection in case the Canucks end up giving Winnipeg a good 1st rounder next year.  Getting Ehlers for six years is definitely worth the cost of a (non top 5) 2020 first rounder that may or may not pan out, and would likely take years to develop.

Why for Winnipeg:  As shown by the Trouba trade, the Jets are needing to create cap room.  They need to re-sign Myers, Laine and Connor.  This deal sends out over $10 million, while getting a developing young player with upside in Virtanen as well as a very valuable asset of a 1st round pick.  This deal is in a similar vein to the Trouba deal of trading a young player for a 1st round pick and cap space.  The Jets also get rid of Perreault's contract in this deal, which they want to shed.  He's a decent player, but at $4 million per year he doesn't have much trade value and they want to find a taker.

I'm sure many people will point to the fact that Ehlers had a terrible playoff run.  I'd say that's the only reason we'd be able to get him in a deal, and this is our chance to pounce.  Pairing him with elite talent like Petterson could be incredible and worth that risk.  A good coach can help mature the young player to be more of a playoff performer in the future.

Go after Anders Lee instead! Make it happen jimbo!

    To Vancouver

    Nylander

    Marleau

    Zaitsev

    To Toronto

    Boeser 25% retained

    2019 2nd round pick

    Vancouver does this because:

    NYLANDER > boeser

    Marleau over 1000 pts

    Naitsev = upgrade on D

    Toronto does this because:

    Frees up cap space.

    Thoughts?

But that's literally all he brings. He's a one dimensional player. The way of the goon is dead. I'm sorry but this sort of player in the NHL is starting to become obsolete.

I'd way rather see the Canucks take a stab at Anders Lee. 6'1, 231lbs, he's at least big and can score goals.

    Yes to Anders Lee!:towel:

    An aggressive push:

This won't happen obviously, but I do wonder how the following team would do in terms of

    1) The Short term

    2) The Long term

    3) Managing their cap

    Trades and Signings:

    1) 10th overall for William Nylander

    2) Sign Panarin.  10.5 x 7

    3) Brock Boeser for Matthew Dumba.   (Minnesota adds to make the deal fair?   I honestly don't know how to guage valuation here).

    4) Move Sutter, Schaller, and Eriksson to Ottawa and/or other teams to clear cap space.

    Line-up:

    Panarin-Pettersson-Nylander

    Pearson-Horvat-Virtanen

    Baertschi-Gaudette-Goldobin

    Roussel-Beagle-Leivo

    Edler-Dumba

    Hughes-Tanev

    Hutton-Stecher

    Markstrom

    Demko

    Questions:

Now obviously, the above won't happen in a million years, but I am curious as to the following:

    1) Would the above team be a 2nd round calibre playoff team for the 2019-2020 season?

    2) What would this team's "window" be?

    3) Would the above team still be able to avert future cap complications to a large degree?

Hell no we trade for nylander and trade brock. This should not happen.

Personally, wouldn't trade Boeser, just a trade idea to see if anyone would be on board.

    Gostisbehere, Patrick, Konecny, 11th OA

    for

    Boeser, Gaudette, Hutton, 40thOA

    Boeser = Ghost, 11thOA

    Gaudette = Patrick

    Hutton and 40thOA = Konecny

We upgrade at 3c with Patrick who has much more offensive ability then what Gaudette has shown thus far. Add a 25 goal winger to Horvat's right side in Konecny. We add another offensive defenseman that can play the PP and move the puck. Draft a forward at 10 to replace Boeser, draft Seider as our future top pairing dman alongside Hughes. Id like to think we can sign Taylor Hall next year as well to play on Pettersson left side but just a pipedream.

Philadelphia gets a 3c in Gaudette who plays a better defensive game then Patrick with less offensive upside. They get an elite winger to play alongside Couts on the top line. Hutton who has the potential to be a 40 point dman off the left side and a 2nd round pick where they can still draft a great player.

    10thOA - Podkolzin/Dach/Krebs/Zegras/Boldy/Newhook

    11thOA - Seider

Sign Taylor Hall in 2020 7 years@70-75 million

    In a few years

    Hall Pettersson 10thOA

    Pearson Horvat Konecny

    Madden Patrick Virtanen

    Hughes Seider

    Juolevi Ghost

    Stetcher Woo

A fast team with some size thrown in.

The only thing we do with Boeser aka the Flow is to resign him longterm. 7 years / 7.5M-8M should be reasonable when skinner gets 9M.
