JB: "Where do I need to sign?"

[proposal] Matt Duchene + Anton Stralman would give us a very deep line-up
I think most of us have speculated as to what it would be like to have “such and such” player on our team. I know I certainly have, lol.
We’ve talked about the usual suspects to death: Panarin, Karlsson, Dzingel, Subban, Kapanen, Myers, and pretty much all of the names on the rumor mill.
While we’ve also talked about Matt Duchene on here, it was mainly us speculating as to what this team would look like with Matt Duchene playing on the left side....with Pettersson and Boeser.
Today, I’m going to talk about this from a different angle.
What if.........we brought in Matt Duchene as a Center?
Pettersson
Duchene
Horvat
As a triple punch combo down the middle.
Here is why I would see the benefit in doing such a thing:
1) In today’s NHL, elite teams pretty much need three scoring lines as opposed to the older traditional two scoring lines + two shut down lines.
2). Duchene is an elite UFA, but likely won’t make quite the same amount of $$$$ as Panarin or Karlsson.......which ultimately means that we’d still have a legit shot of getting guys like Pettersson and Hughes to take discounts when it comes to re-upping them.
3) Anton Stralman: In terms of.....well.....term, Stralman won’t be signed for so many years in the manner that a Tyler Myers would, You could Sign Stralman for 2-3 years, and then part ways with him just as guys like Woo would be ready to make a legit impact at the NHL level.
By signing both Duchene and Stralman, the Canucks would be employing the model that makes current elite teams in the NHL successful:
Cost controlled elite talent + depth
Duchene could realistically be had for 9.5 million or less, while Stralman’s cap hit and term would be palpable.
Goldobin-Duchene-Boeser
Pearson-Pettersson-Gaudette
Baertschi-Horvat-Virtanen
Roussel-Beagle-Leivo
MacEwan
Edler-Stecher
Hughes-Tanev
Hutton-Stralman
Schenn
Markstrom
Demko
So what you would have with the above, is a VERY deep line-up.
You could move Sutter, Schaller, and Eriksson to clear cap space is you wanted to go this route, and still have excellent depth. Gaudette could be moved back to Center just in case of injuries.
In terms of our defense, we would have 6 defensemen that would NOT look out of place in a Top 4 role. .
The defense would also have a good succession plan in place. By the time guys like Edler, Stralman, and Tanev would be ready to come off the books, guys like Woo, Juolevi, and a returning Tryamkin should be ready to fill their spots. It would not be a Myers or Gardiner situation where their lengthy contracts could potentially prevent younger guys from getting into the line-up.
Horvat is to good for 3rd line minutes. Avoid overpaying free agents this offseason. Build through the draft. Develop our young guys and be patient. Rather have a window of winning for 5-7 years in a few years than 2-3 years because of cap issues.

First of all, these forums are for fun, and Benning does not review this one or anyone else's proposals before he goes to work...…...or pulls the trigger on a trade or signing
So, with out further a due, here is my proposal from an earlier thread, which would be interesting, and combines several proposals...…...
#1. Trade...………...Brock Boeser + Mike DiPietro to Minni for Zucker, 2019 1st (12 OA) + 2020 2nd
#2. Trade...………..Jason Zucker + Sven Baertschi 50% retained to EDM for 2019 1st (8th OA)* ( may need additional asset to acquire EDM 2019 1st)
#1. UFA...………….Artemi Panarin………………….6 years @ 11 M per Premier LW, a Driver, a goal Scorer, excellent speed
#2. UFA...………….Ryan Dzingel…………………...6 years @ 6.5 M per Versitle LW/C/RW, good hands, speed, 200 ft game
#3. UFA...………….Erik Karlsson…………………....6 years @ 10 M per Premier RHD, High IQ, excellent speed, excellent first pass
2019 - 2020 Team Depth Prospects
LW Panarin Persson Roussel Schaller $17.750M Lievo Goldobin Spooner Gadjovich
C Pettersson Horvat Gaudette Beagle $10.500M Granlund Motte Madden
RW Dzingel Sutter Virtanen Eriksson $18.000M MacEwen Lind Jasek Lockwood
LHD Hughes Edler Hutton Juolevi $11.000M Brisebois Sautner Rathbone Teves
RHD Karlsson Tanev Stecher Schenn $18.000M Woo Tryamkin Rafferty Eliot
G Markstrom Demko $5.000M Kielly
========
Total $80,250M
2019 Vancouver Draft Picks
1st - 8th OA...…………………..Dach/Boldy/Krebs
1st - 10th OA...………………...Soderstrom/Seider
1st - 12th OA...…………………Newhook/Lavoie/Podkolzin
2nd - 40th OA...………………..Korczak/Honka/Thomson
3rd - 71st OA...………………...Best Goalie available
Additional Picks...…..4, 5, 6, 6, 6, 7...…………...………...…...……..These picks could be used to improve draft positions in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, albeit single digit moves
Now, yes it is a reach, to think 1st off, that we could sign 3 top UFA's, but it could happen, and yes it would be a reach to obtain those 2 extra firsts, but Boston had 3 1st in a row in 2015
which were (13, 14, and 15), and to manoeuvre into those spots took luck, but it is possible. These moves would set us up for years. Also of note, is the 2020 draft which is suppose to be a very strong draft, and which Vancouver would have picks up the Minnesota 2020 2nd . It would not be unreasonable to think we could have the following picks in 2020. In a very strong draft.
2020 -1st 18th OA
2020 - 2nd 40th OA
2020 - 2nd 47th OA
2020 - 3rd 80th OA
To me, this 2 year Overhaul plan, completes the rebuild, and with adding a possible 3 top end players, via the 2019 draft, along with 1 more, in the 2020 draft, the team is now, ready to move into the next decade, with a multitude of top end players. The loss of Boeser shocked the 2019 draft floor in Vancouver, and will keep Vancouver a buzz for years, but the assets added, plus the future core players, will keep Vancouver atop of the standings for along time...…….
Get the torch out!
NOT TRADING BOESER!
Why should we trade away an elite winger? If we would have plenty of them yes but besides Boeser there isn't much on the wing.

The 9th overall pick has been selected.
Benning looks at his list. He is less than impressed and laughs at the circumstance. He picks up the phone.
Offer to Minnesota
10th overall
Sutter/Baerschi
For
Zucker
Minnesota is clearly trying to shop before July 1st. Lets offer something on draft day.
Do you think the value here could get it done on Draft Day. Minnesota will have been scouting the range of 10-15. They might like 2 players. They might like 2 move 2 picks and next years pick for even bigger players.
While Boes for Zucker doesnt make sense 1 for 1. He would still be a great addition to the team. Good contract and hardworker for Horvat and Pete.
I think the Ducks could make an offer too for 1 last push with their core before full rebuild after Seattle enters.
Terrible!
Counter offer: 10th overall for Dumba? I guess it's a no from the wild

Ok so i made a thread recently suggesting Boeser for Hughes, some thinks we would be crazy not to, some people think we would be crazy to do it. Im a HUGE Boeser fan, but the chance of pairing the Hughes brothers together is just too good to not gamble imo.
We seen the brother chemistry in the Sedins, yea maybe they were twins and played all their life together, but I think there is that potential chemistry we just cannot ignore.
Obviously we would like to hang onto Boeser, so how could we manage to get such a highly regarded prospect without losing any of our core young guys? Hmmmm
So for starters we have pick number 10 and we need to try and move up at least 8, maybe 9 spots. How is that possible? Well landing another top 10 pick might be the answer. Edmonton is an intriguing trade partner here. They need cap space and would gladly move pick 8 to rid themselves of that contract.
Problem is we have our own problem contract in Eriksson. Funny thing is I think a 1 for 1 swap here will benefit both players as well as both teams. Only thing is Lucic has less value imo because his contract is same $ per but 1 year longer. So we can sell the Oilers on that and the fact Eriksson can still potentially turn it around with McDavid and put up 30 goals, as where Lucic is basically just a tough rich guy at this point. We need toughness but we need that 8 pick more lol. So what could we add to that 1 for 1 swap to pry pick 8 from the Oilers? They need defence and goaltending, but can't take on big contracts. What about Tanev, Markstrom, and Goldobin? I think that could entice them. They might need to shed a bit of cap on their end but the get what they need and we get what we need.
So essentially my offer is...
Eriksson
Tanev
Markstrom
Goldobin
For
Lucic
8th
Idk how that will work for them cap wise, but maybe there's a less complicated way to get this done. Here's a few more proposals we can send their way...
Tanev+Baertschi for Lucic+8th
Or
Tanev+Goldobin for Lucic+8
Or my favorite...
Tanev+Goldobin+Markstrom for Lucic+Puljujarvi+8
Either way the objective is to get that #8. So no matter how we obtain it lets move on to step 2. Acquiring the #1 pick to make sure we get Hughes. So we have the number 8 and number 10 pick, but I doubt that'll be enough. What could we add to get this done? Gaudette is a nice piece to dangle.
8+10+Gaudette for #1
That should be enough but if it isn't we shouldn't have to add much more. If so we have guys like Lind, Gadjovich, Madden, Etc to add in there. So is it really possible to land Jack without losing any of Pettersson, Hughes, Boeser, Horvat, or even Virtanen and Juolevi?!?!
IT JUST MIGHT BE!!!
Virtanen Pettersson Boeser
XXXXXX Hughes Puljujarvi
Pearson Horvat Sutter
Lucic Beagle Eriksson
Elder Stecher
Hughes Schenn
Hutton XXXXXX
Juolevi
Demko
UFA
In 2 years after sacrificing picks and young guys to rid ourselves of Lucic and Eriksson.
Virtanen Pettersson Boeser
XXXXXX Hughes Puljujarvi
XXXXXX Horvat XXXXXX
XXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX
Hughes Tryamkin
Juolevi Woo
XXXXXX Stecher
Demko
Possible dynasty in the making? Boy I hope so!
if this happens..
Put J.Hughes on Bo's wing. Bo is to good for 3rd line minutes!

Similar proposal to my last one where we get Karlsson+Kessel except with a different twist.
To Vancouver:
PK Subban [$9M]
To Nashville:
10th overall
^we make a draft day splash and then go on to sign Panarin in FA for give or take $11m, creating 2 dynamic forward duos on both top lines.
TOP 6F
Panarin • Petey • Roussel (police the other 2)
Pearson • Horvat • Boeser
TOP 4D
Edler • Subban
Hughes • Tanev
...begin competing for the playoffs/newest upcoming SC contenders as soon as next season. Get some buzz going and boost up the rebuild into the transition phase where we begin rising.
No thanks to PK.
We are not trading our 10th pick as the draft is in Vancouver.
Rather try to get another pick in the first round!
-
Rather go after Anders Lee!
5 years 7M
He could be the perfect LW for Bo!
-
1) Get rid of SUTTER, take whatever we get for him. I would take a 4th, even a 5th round pick
3) Resign BROCK as early as possible. 7 years 7.25M
4) Sign EDLER but WITHOUT a NTC. 2 years 5.75M
5) Sign Anders LEE 5 years 7M
6) Pick at 10: One of Dach, Cozens, Caufield, Turcotte, Boldy, Zegras, Broberg
7) 19/20
Top6
Pearson/Leivo Petey Boeser
Lee Horvat Virtanen
Top 4
Edler Stecher
Hughes Tanev

[proposal] Boeser + 10th for Byram + [winger]
Boeser + 10th for 3-5OA + winger.
I haven’t checked the lottery draft rankings, but Chicago is 3rd right? LA is 5th?
I doubt Bryam drops to 5thOA but if he does, how about a Boeser + 10th for Toffoli + 5th OA?
Similar deal for 3rd or 4th overall. Boeser + 10th for Byram + winger.
On July 1st, we then go hard after Dzingel or Panarin to compensate the loss of Boeser.
Best case scenario: We land a top notch defensive prospect in Byram + a decent enough replacement for Boeser in the form of Dzingel or Panarin.
Worst case scenario: We land a top notch defensive prospect in Byram + a semi decent winger in return in said trade + we clear cap space by moving Boeser who will need to be reupped.
Uhm no thanks!!
Rather have Boeser and one of Cozens, Krebs, Caufield, Boldy, Zegras, Soderström,..
Canucks are not trading Boeser, EP40, Captain Bo or Quinn as they mentioned several times!

I think Parayko would cost us too many assets unfortunately. Guys like Dobson, Bouchard, and Boquist would be nice, but I think those teams’ asking price would be too high (and rightfully so given their respective ages and ceilings).
I wonder if it would be worth it on our end to inquire about Timothy Liljegren from Toronto? Benning and Dubas have an excellent relationship, and I don’t think it would cost us an arm and a leg to get Liljegren (although in Toronto’s case, I think they need a young RHD to emerge almost as badly as we do).
If we get Bode Wilde out of Long Island, we’d have two of the coolest names in the NHL. :p (Bode Wilde + Jet Woo).
I don't think we need Liljegren from the leafs. Rather keep our picks and have faith in our scouting staff. The last two drafts were good for us just let them do their work.

No trade yet & passed on glass and vilardi. Kinda disappointed...
Not a full rebuild as it looks now, interesting to see if something happens, probably not......

If we get the 3rd overall from dallas. A lot of people prefer a combination of - vilardi / glass / mittelstadt -makar / heiskanen / liljegren
What if we would take Vilardi at 3 and Glass at 5.
We would definately solve the C problem with these selections. The best situation would be Glass in the middle and Vilardi ( plays Center or winger) on the wing. If Glass ( compared to Scheifele / Johansen) isn't our future 1st line C, we would still have Vilardi as an option.
Future Top 6
Vilardi Glass Boeser
Baertschi Horvat Dahlen
We could use our 2nd 3rd & 4th round picks for D selections, as well as the 2018 1st round ( Dahl.....)

[Proposal] Lucic Trade

Lucic + 8th for Loui + 10th is NOT decent. It's terrible for the nucks. There is almost no difference in picking 8th or 10th this draft.
