Personally Id put Pettersson in Utica to work of his strength, pro speed and develop as centre. If the Sedins come back then Id trade Baertschi this deadline or offseason for a 1st round pick or top d prospect. Id also trade Gagner if you can. Id then try to resign Vanek or another UFA for a year.

    Virtanen-Bo-Boeser

    Goldy-Sutter-Eriksson

    Boucher-Gaunce-UFA/Vanek

    Archibald-Gaudette-Granlund

On defence Id trade Guddy(prefer) or Tanev as well as Hutton this deadline. Then trade Del Zotto this offseason and sign a RD preferably cheap and short deal.

    Edler-Stetcher

    Juolevi-Tanev

    Holm/McEneny-UFA/Biega/Pouliot

    Pouliot

In Goal Id trade Nilsson this deadline or offseason and run Marky as starter until Demko takes over.

    Marky

    Demko

Bummer.. Archie and Boucher has been solid. Dowd seem like a guy that could really challenge someone for a roster spot.

I love Goldy but I agree with u on that he will get claimed if we retain Sedins as well as Erikss to push Goldy out of the roster again.

Also, I am not sure if Pettersson will be with the nux next season. There is only half year left for him to bulk up 15~20 lbs.

And I am not sure if that's an ideal scenario for EP to enter NHL on a weight that will be unnatural for him. Starting in Utica won't be a bad choice for his development.

I also feel like Gagner (and maybe Granny, too...) will be in and out of the lineup while giving youngsters (Gaudette, Goldy and Gaunce) some NHL ice time.

If Gaudette could pan out to be an early adaptor like Boeser, I cannot wish for more.

But realistically speaking, it will take him some games to adjust and he will be in and out of the lineup for earlier part of the rookie season.

He will turn out to be a good NHLer in the end tho I have zero doubt.

Virtanen also won't play full 82 games. Out of the players listed in the lineup, he seems like the most "streaky", "expendable" player.

He could still use some more time to learn the game from the press box.... Hope he takes another big step forward next yr.

These are good points. I was just making a lineup under the hypothetical assumption that both Gaudette and pettersson make the team and that the Sedins return. Any of these three things could end up not happening

If Gaudette and EP make the team, plus the sedins return are eriksson and Gagner on the team?

    Baer - horvat - boeser

    sedin - sedin - pettersson

    Eriksson - sutter - gagner

    grandlund - gaudette - Virtanen

    Gaunce?

    goldobin?

    boucher?

    Dowd?

    archibald?

I imagine that 1 of those 5 will be carried as an extra and the others in Utica. The only exception is Goldobin will probably get claimed if we try to send him to Utica, so I can see them trying to make room on the roster for him (maybe trade grandlund?)

edit: also just realized that boucher, dowd, and archibald are all ufa’s after this year. We probably won’t see all of them back on the team

The difference between a 16 year old and 19 year old is massive.   The difference between 19 years old and one second and 19 years old and six months - nada.   Been there, seen it and lived it.   Go ahead and try and come up with more ways to denigrate the Canuck prospect and pump tires on someone else but this is one your negativity simply makes zero logic sense.    After nearly 7,000 days on the planet another six or even 9 months doesn't make a massive difference...particularly when the number of years playing the game is the same.

Glad to hear your mind was blown by this.   It didn't seem to take a very large charge to complete that mission.

If 6 months to a year makes a big difference in an 18 yr olds development, then comparing Gaudette in October of his freshman year to Gaudetta in March or his freshman year shows substantial improvement.

However, Tkachuk has been putting up similar numbers all year to this point. Obviously, he brings a lot of other things to the table but assuming he will be a great NHL player because his point production is similar to players 1 year older than him is beyond naive. Jack Eichel went 2nd overall in 2015 and he scored 2.5 times more often than Tkachuk.

I like Tkachuk but honestly the odds that he turns into a gaudette level prospect isn’t too far fetched.

  4. Was just going through some stats for fun today and realized that with his goal the other night, Bo passed Cody hodgson for the most NHL points by a Mike Gillis draft pick with 143 points.

    Congrats, Bo!

for those wondering, Brock Boeser is Bennings highest scoring draft pick, with 53. The only MG draft picks with more points are Horvat (143), Hodgson (142), and Conautton (59).

I don't think you would be able to justify taking Tkachuk before Svech. No way. I am totally on board with Brady Tkachuk just at 4 or 5 however. Zadina and Boqvist make pretty strong cases to be taken early as well.

I think for the Canucks, tkachuk should be 5th on their list. Svech, zadina, and boqvist should all be ahead of him in draft order specifically for the Canucks.

What makes it all the more impressive is that Demko is putting up these numbers on an average team. Sure, the Comets may have picked it up as of late, but before this hot streak they were looking like bottom feeders. Demko has kept them in the playoff hunt.

From what I’ve heard Demko has been their MVP this season. He, and to a lesser extent Bachman, have been the steadying forced on a team that’s been riddled with injuries and dealing with multiple players being called up to the NHL.

I like markstrom and all but imagine if the Canucks had a steadying, reliable player in goal this year? They probably would’ve survived the injuries a lot better and would be in a much better position right now, like the Comets are

I think they are going to trade Nilsson for a late rounder and bring up Demko for the rest of the year....maybe sign a college or Euro goalie for Utica....

I imagine they would call up Gartieg from Kalamazoo if they bring up Demko to Vancouver.

That being said I wouldn’t mind them finding another young goalie for Utica if they get rid of Nilsson. Vegas went through 5 goalies this year. You can never have too many in the system imo

Joel Persson, d-man for Vaxjo is intriguing. Only 23 and solid production. Looked good on the powerplay with Pettersson. Should be worth a look from us.

Too bad he’s signed through until 2020. Maybe if the canucks are still looking for another D at that point he’d be a good guy to sign. 29 points in 42 shl games for vaxjo this year

I think they will probably tell him to start working on his strength as early as possible. Coming to North America at the end of a season having so few games on the small ice would be a challenge let alone the added physical component of AHL players.

Its possible, but more likely we seen Dahlen, Lind, Gaudette or Gadjovich in Utica to end the year

I’m pretty sure gadjovich and Lind aren’t eligible to play in the AHL until next year due to the chl/ahl agreement for juniper aged players.

For dahlen and pettersson I think it mostly depends on how the air teams do in the play offs. Both of them play for the best teams in their respective leagues so it’s likely they will each make deep playoff runs.

Gaudette i think likely will get signed this season as it would burn off a year of his entry level contract and would be a good way to entice him to stay with the Canucks. If he does get signed, good chance he plays in the nhl, not AHL.

Good odds for Pettersson to finish #1 in scoring as both lindstrom and lindholm will both miss some games due to the olympics.

Lasch is only 2 points ahead but he’s played 7 more games than pettersson, so it’s likely pettersson will pass him in the next 9 games

Gaunce is already better than Gagner and may be better than Granlund....otherwise I'm fine with your lineup...Gagner should be traded now that he has stopped turning it over every, single, GDT///....for the first 30 games of the season...

Vanek needs to go as well because be may be able to get another first round pick...even if we have to kick in a 3rd or 4th to go with him.

Sedins will come back for one more year....because they can, limited minutes please.....

It would be nice if gagner got traded but I can’t see management doing it until at least trade deadline 2019. I can’t see Travis Green using him as a 13th forward either. As long as Gagner is on the team, he will have a place in the top 12.

I agree best case scenerio is to trade Vanek for a pick and resign the Sedins (which is my first scenerio lineup).

Goldy is either traded, on our team, or goes on waivers - where he will most certainly get claimed.

Good point! I should have clarified. The first line up I posted I assumed a trade. The second one I assumed no trade.

  13. Uhhhhhh lemme have a go here:

    beartschi - horvat - boeser

    sedin - sedin - pettersson

    eriksson - sutter - grandlund

    virtanen - gaudette - gagner

    or

    vanek - horvat - boeser

    beartschi - pettersson - goldobin

    bottom 6 is the same

gaunce carried as the extra guy

i think that if the Sedins don’t come back, they will try and resign Vanek. Goldobin and pettersson are both unknowns, but pettersson I’m confident can step in as a competent 2nd line player similar to Henrik and Daniel in their first couple years. Goldobin is a hopeful selection.

I think starting gaudette on the on the fourth line and having him work his way up (like what they did with horvat) is a good way to let him develop while also contributing to team success.

Edit: I’m well aware that the second line in both of these lineups is very soft. That doesn’t mean that it’s a bad line though

My expectations is for him not to be a healthy scratch...

I mean, the guy has been in 3 world junior championships and it’s pretty much consensus that this past one was his personal best.

People are excited about joulevi because he has gotten better each year, not because he was a healthy scratch the last couple games.

I dont get to watch a lot of liiga games because it’s hard to find a good stream online (for me at least lol), so for joulevi’s regular season progression I mostly go by the Sami Salo interviews, which indicate he’s been improving over the year

Why do people keep bringing heiskanen up? I don't care what that kid does. He's not a canuck prospect and there's no sign he'll be a canuck player.  I'm talking about olli juolevi here.

Olli was benched. On top of that he had another poor outing at the WJC.  We're building something in Vancouver and if he wants to be a part of it he needs to play better.

Wasn’t he one of the top 3 Finns at wjc?

  16. With one goal today pettersson overtakes Markus basking for 6th in all time u20 shl scoring. With 11 games left in Vaxjo schedule, pettersson needs 13 points to tie Nilsson for most all time with 54 points (although Nilsson did it in an unfathomable 36 games).

here's the article, think it works pretty fine to google-translate it :D

Interesting. Looks like they were an Armanien family who had been there for a long time and were deported for not having the proper documentation? Or maybe they were their on work visa’s and lost their jobs, which is why they were allowed to return when the mother eventually got hired again. The article says youth in the community fought to bring the family back to Sweden, I wonder if EP was included in that group of “youth”

    Let's see:

    To start the year:

    Petterson / Bo / Boeser

    Baer / Gaudette / Virtanen

    Sedins/ Erikkson ( if I have to ...I guess)

    Gaunce / Sutter / MacEwen

    Granlund or Goldy

without the Sedins there is room for Goldy and Dahlen.... with MacEwen or Petterson at centre..and Dowd as the 13th forward....

What no room for Rodin ??????
